    I mean, it's probably better that the series end when the creators are satisfied rather than them feeling forced to continue it beyond it's natural end point. Most people can probably think of at least a few TV shows that lasted way too long and descended into mediocrity.
    One thing I think should be noted is that Falcom could return to Zemuria sometime in the future if they so desire. The world is developed and maybe they could jump back in with other eras in the continent's future or even past. And, if the Sky remakes do well, there could be remakes of the Crossbell games to bring them up to the standards of Cold Steel and beyond just like the Sky remakes will do for those games.
    But, in any case, Falcom has earned my trust. Though I love the Trails games, I am interested in seeing what they do with Legend of Heroes games after Trails.

      This could be a very weird idea, but IF they do it right with the Tokyo Xanadu series, there is some possibility. We all know there are ports that connect "normal" Tokyo to several Eclipses. We have also seen that not every Eclipse is formed by a Greed (or dungeon master if you like). Could it be possible to find another gate/port somewhere in the Eclipse that does not lead back to Tokyo, but to a whole alternate reality? A reality that has a continent called Zemuria? Just some weird thinking of me, but you could link these games together and have episodes that play in "normal" Tokyo, but also somewhere on the Zemurian continent? It would be interesting to see what happens if these two worlds connect with an Eclipse as a kind of "bridge". What would Ouroborous do with that knowledge? Cough... Yeah - Not likely.
      Anyway - Just ignore my rambling. It's good to see that the Trails series will not go on indefinitely. Somtimes enough is enough...

    Personally, I interpreted Kondo's statement in regards to the post-calvard arc being the last as a statement of intent, and not much more. Like you said, plans can quite easily change. That said, if a certain overarching series of plot points, which is present in each arc (unless DB2/Kai prove me wrong), is utilised in either the Calvard arc OR the arc after it *in the same way as Cold Steel did*, I can believe it. As it's that series of plot points that to me defines the overall trails progress, at least until proven otherwise.

    After the "series finale/story conclusion", my dream is that Falcom *CONTINUES to do more Trails games* in the form of *standalone prequels* to older events in the Trails lore that are still a mystery (like *"The Great Collapse"* incident, *"The Salt Pale"* incident, *"D.G. Cult"* era, *"War of the Lions"* era, or even *"Swin & Nadia"* origins story before their appearance in Reverie). Personally, I think it would be a very good thing for Trails to wrap up and migrate to a new universe/timeline/period/whatever. I really like Trails' gameplay, world-building, and many of their characters, but the longer the series has gone on the more tortured the plot has become to accommodate the huge number of characters, mysteries, and major events that occur when you make a JRPG series >13 games long. I think a little bit of freedom would do their turn-based team a lot of good, and if they wanted their new series to also be interconnected, I'm sure we could get invested in the new setting as well.

    While I'd be sad about it coming to an end, I also think it would make sense. It's daunting if you're a newcomer and feel that you have to play all the games. Cold Steel was my first, and I managed to play Sky in between finishing CS3 and waiting for CS4 and was still missing context because Zero/Azure wasn't translated yet, and now I have Daybreak 1&2 on my to-do-list because I just finished Reverie. Even though you _can_ skip games/arcs, it really feels like you're missing important context, and so any newcomer kinda has to commit to playing 13+ games to get it all. • @BlueGrovyle
      @BlueGrovyle 2 місяці тому +2

      @@Synthpopper I feel like you're being unreasonably disingenuous. Soft reboots clearly do not work in the current ecosystem, because the loudest partition of the fan base will insist that newcomers should not play it even if it _is_ a valid starting point. I think what OP is suggesting is that there will eventually be an inflection point at which continuing the series has diminishing returns. The series's gimmick is that each game coexists in the same world, and that gimmick will mean less the longer the series gets because fewer people will have the realistic chance to see it through to the end even if they _do_ trust that the series is good enough to play fully. For a personal example, I have obsessed over this series close to nonstop over the last 4 years, yet I've only played 7 of the 13 and counting games. I wholeheartedly intend to play every Trails game-maybe even every modern Falcom game-but I also don't want to rush it like some people do and blitz each entry back-to-back.

    From what I understand, Kuro did some massive damage to the series as a whole in Japan, and I think Kondo's saying what he's saying to try to rebuild hype over there. "Hey guys, it's ending soon! • @eireiemiya4136
      @eireiemiya4136 2 місяці тому +3

      It's not really Kuro itself but more the lack of direction/endless stalling it had since Kuro 2 (it's almost like Falcom were literally saying to the players "we never planned anything more than selling Kiseki games"), you can ask japanese people and they'll say Kuro 1 was still pretty good (even if a bit too much on the easy side and with an unclear/not really well designed UI), what killed the goodwill of japanese fans was the endless padding and how nothing big happened in the games until reaching certain points (usually the intermission/last chapter), unfortunatly Kai did the same as Kuro 2, thankfully it is written a bit better but overall Kuro 2 flaws are all over Kai as well that the general consensus would be that "Kai should've been Kuro 2", combine that plus the fact that Falcom dgaf about the Garghav Trilogy anymore so they let some Chinese publisher rewrite it completely as a mobile game and yep, they basically asked for it, you can see on twitter how they end up being spammed with people saying that the legacy of the starter LoH trilogy should be protected at all cost.
      A lot of japanese fans were so upset with Kai they review bombed the game on Amazon, to make it clear japanese people were already feeling tired of Kiseki games after CS3 (where the sales initially started to drop), to them Sen no Kiseki (Cold Steel) was great but a bit too long for what it really offered (and i kinda agree with them in a way).
      But yeah, i agree Kondo is certainly trying to hype up the fans so that they'll feel obligated to purchase the "last game", even if it end up being untrue later, he loves playing dirty after all.

  • @obato76
    @obato76 2 місяці тому +1

    I'm fine with the series ending sooner rather than later. It's gone on long enough that enough clues to its biggest mysteries have been dropped, such that when they're finally revealed they're in danger of being underwhelming. (We've all guessed who the First Anguis is by now, right?) And the longer they drag the series out, the more underwhelming the reveals will be, so yeah, hurry up and show us Dorothy is the Grandmaster of Ourobouros already.
    My only worry is that whichever arc is the last, it'll introduce a new set of characters that we won't have time to get to know and love before the whole series wraps up. I'm only up to Daybreak I, and I don't feel like I've truly gotten know this bunch yet (especially since some were introduced so late into the game). It doesn't feel like the great mysteries of Zemuria are ready to be revealed yet, especially since the massive cast of every previous arc needs to be there when it is. Cold Steel definitely felt like it dragged on too long at 4 games, even though it brought back the Liberl and Crossbell casts. Maybe 2 games is enough to tell a complete, satisfying story with a new cast - Sky FC/SC and Zero/Azure wrapped up quite nicely. And then just 1 more game to bring back old characters and tackle the metaplot? Or maybe you need 2 games after all, since there are even more returning characters now?
    Anyway, I hope with all this shuffling of their plans around, Falcom gives us a well-paced and -structured climax to the Trails saga.

    I'm guessing there is likely one more arc left after Calvard. The final Arc will be 4 games, much like Cold Steel was, then we will get one, if not two, games to wrap everything up, much like Reverie did with the first "half" of the series. I could see the first "wrap up" game covering Calvard and the last arc, while the second and final game wraps the entire saga up on one grand scale. If I'm thinking about this correctly, that would put the series as a whole at 19 games, which would kind of hurt if we didn't get to 20 haha.
    I'm going to be sad when it's over, but it will also be somewhat relieving. We will have nearly 20 games in one of the greatest series ever made. Throw in the Sky remake and hopefully the subsequent SC and 3rd remakes, and we will have the entire saga accessible on modern platforms outside of just PC.

    Honestly, I feel like we're going to have one more arc and a final game to cap it off. Kondo wants to wrap up the series until 2030, and there's bound to be at least one break between Trails releases. Considering that, there's four games left at most, which is most likely Kai 2 + new arc (2 games) + finale. I can't see them releasing a new arc so soon, and 2025 has to be their promised two-game year (Trails and Tokyo Xanadu 2, remakes do not count). Making the final arc only two games long would also be very un-Trails-like.
    Anyway, we'll know it for sure this December.

      I think Final Fantasy isn't a particularly good example, and I'd struggle to find a good example regardless. The manner in which the last Trails game is handled is way more significant than the manner in which the last game of a typical JRPG series is handled because Trails's ending will have implications for the entire series, whereas, say, Final Fantasy 9 being the last Final Fantasy game doesn't change anything about the importance or canon of Final Fantasy 7. No matter how you slice it, the ending of Trails will be a huge deal and a lot of fans will be pissed off by how it ends, whether it's too soon, overdue, or otherwise dissatisfying to them. FF and other series are way more malleable than Trails as a concept could ever be.

Instead of following the standard new arc formula, they might be working on a more condensed, but still impactful, sequence of events, especially since so many things have already been introduced. Kinda like how Hajimari started a new format.
    I could also see them having one ‘arc’ and then… ending games that aren’t part of that arc, but still exist. They also could’ve decided to just cut things and put them in a different form of media (mobile game, anime, manga, light novel, etc.,)
