so sad :(( honestly i don’t know why everyone is hung up over this not being in the books, it still showcases how claire’s trauma deeply affects her and how she’s coping. i hope someone catches on soon and helps her through it ♡
Though she never self medicated in the book, I think the show is trying to showcase how claire deals with PTSD. The aftermath of her abduction how it affected and ruin her.
The ether is sophisticated, and let's not forget a DG approved, treatment for television. Ether, to a surgeon... Perfectly plausible. She's putting Jaime through far less thus far but she's not inhuman.
Claire in the books is much stronger than this! If you remember in the last episode of S5 she said she had fought in two wars, lost two husbands and this trauma would not break her. I know they don’t always follow the books precisely but this is too far out.
This shows the more Realistic side to things, the book felt more like a Idealistic Fantasy to Claire.Yes She is Strong but every strong person would break and snap eventually, Claire is at a Breaking Point, she could be hiding this entire thing even in the books.They Don’t always follow the books especially at this point because it show the Harsh Truth that People nowadays feel.
Aún no he visto la temporada 6 por que Netflix no la tiene, pero por lo avances que he visto, da a entender que Claire, está pasando por un momento difícil en su vida debido al secuestro de que fue víctima en la temporada 5, y me siento aterrada de ver como se está volviendo adicta a la anestesia, algo que me parece tremendo, por que en algún momento si se le va la mano en el uso de este medicamento se puede morir, además se me hace extraño en ella este proceder, Claire es una mujer guerrera y fuerte capaz de superar, las cosas más difíciles en su vida, aunque en realidad una violación. No es algo superable. Esperemos que en los capítulos siguientes alguien cercano a su círculo familiar, y la ayude a superar el trauma que está viviendo, no quiero que muera y deje a Jamie sólo.

The ether bull crap has to stop. It's so uncharacteristic of her it's sad to see the bastardization of a great book. And yeah, I have PTSD, have had since 1993, but I've never self medicated. Wife is outraged about the ether scenes. She owns all the books, been to book signings with the author, and is mad as hell at the corruption of Clair.
It does seem uncharacteristic of her to not tell anyone the trouble she is having. She is surrounded by people whom she knows she can trust. Someone had better figure out what she's doing, because ether is a tricky anesthetic and she could accidentally overdose -- not to mention that unconsciousness is NOT a substitute for sleep. A person can spend a lot of time unconscious and yet be sleep starved. (There is a reason why sleep deprivation is used to try and pry information out of captives. The mind AND body need sleep!)
The two are alike, but different. There's a lot in the books they left out of the show. Now there's new things in the show left out of the books. So long as it doesn't get too outlandish, I'm ok with that.

Like Stephen King said about the earlier movies of his books, sometimes all that was the same was the title. There's plenty in the books they can leave out, I wish they quit writing stuff to put IN that's not needed. I guess Claire wasn't mentally damaged enough in the book. They needed to express more trauma.

There was no need for Claire to become a drug addict. She was stronger than that and also less woke.
