2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 4Matic AMG Line review in Malaysia - SUV Superiority Complex

The Mercedes-Benz GLE doesn’t feel like a mere single step up beyond the GLC, or even just an SUV version of the E-Class. Instead, it feels like an ‘I’ve made it’ car for the people already inducted into premium car ownership.
It’s big and imposing, but somehow simultaneously still sleek and elegant. Armed with an inline-6 that is disarmingly silky, a cabin that could be substituted for an isolation chamber, and a presence to make the plebs quiver - the Mercdes-Benz GLE exudes an ‘old money’ vibe that neither its equivalent from BMW or Volvo can mange.
And at RM545k, you’d need to have more than a little spare change.

Basically all GLE's have fake leather. However you have option to get real leather. It's called Nappa Leather Seat option. Sad thing is you can only get it in black color.

How would you rate this against the X5? I'm really considering the X5 but I just love merc.

GLE is more comfortable, has much more space in the middle row, rear seats are electric and have more adjustments (X5 is really fore and aft with incline adjustments) and not being a PHEV means it will be less headaches down the road and hold it's value comparably better against the X5 45e/50e. Spec wise, unfortunately BMW has Merino leather (very plush, feels very expensive) on the newer model 50es and last batch of 45es which are nicer. GLE uses Artico (vinyl) and dinamica (suede-like) on their seats and it's not as luxurious. And of course MB only comes in black seats...

I might go with the GLE for the simple fact it’s not a hybrid (potentially better value retention), and because it has a more of that flex factor. The X5 is a solid choice, though.
