Pat and band members..................your music and stage presence will always live on in my mind and spirit . Many. many hours of pure enjoyment have been sent to me through your performances.
Pat Halcox was a great trumpet player and Roger Hill was quite simply the best guitarist that ever came out of Birmingham. He could play like Django, he could play folk music, he could play rock and roll, modern jazz and ragtime; finger style or plectrum. I knew Roger from about 1962 and grat guitarist and a lovely human being who died too early and was never really recognised for the complete musician he was. I had the honour of playing in a couple of bands with him - the finest experiences of my life. Rob Harper
Weren't you fortunate; my goodness. Years ago I learned from a lady I sat beside in a small jazz club that her grandfather had played trombone in Louis Armstrong's big band, commenting that he (her grandfather) felt the same the remainder of his life. Roger obviously belongs in the pantheon of jazz guitarists. Well, all styles for that matter.
The slightest hint of a smile of recognition on the woman audience member at 4:44 - 4:46 says a lot. She appreciated Pat's masterful - but tasteful - playing at that part of the arrangement. Lovely to see; reactions like this mean the world to a musician.
A truly, truly great trumpet player.I have listened to them all since the late 50s, both jazz and classical and in my humble opinion Pat was the greatest of them all.One of instruments greatest artists.
Dear George : I possess internet since july 2012. I discover this video only today, december 31, 2015 I heard and see this "Buddy Bolden Blues" on stage "live", in Basel (Swiss), with Roger Hill on guitar
We miss you, Pat. Thanks to George Becherovsky for this nice (high quality picture and sound) upload. I was a close friend of (with ?) Pat from january 1961 (Basel) to the bad february 4... Jo Luttringer (for Chris : "le petit detective" my nickname !)
Please give some credit to Roger Hill. A great guitarist who never ever got the credit that was due. How many axe players could play a guitar solo like that

Always liked my Trad Jazz, but have only recently realised what a great trumpeter Pat Halcox was, absolutely brilliant.
What a wonderful piece of trumpet-playing art! Let's take our hats off before this great Maestro and Gentlman!

Sublime

Exactly.
Well said my friend.
@@SuperMikado282 Wonderful solo wasn't it? So melodic, lyrical and cohesive.
@@Django44 Absolutely spot on my friend.
Never heard of him ! Excellent.
Unfortunately true; perhaps due to an unpredictable ebb and flow of the music world. Many more jazz artists could be added to the list.
Vanvittig god musik
A MÚSICA TEM O PODER DE ALEGRAR AS NOSSAS ALMAS.
woooooooh genial
Like IT very much
Great !!!!!!!!!!!
great!
Wasn't this the longest partnership in jazz history ? Halcox and Barber, surpassing that of Ellington and Harry Carney .
I think Kenny Ball and John Bennett may have been together just a wee bit longer.
Prachtig !!!
Wspaniała muza!!!
zum träumen...
Wat kun je. van een simpele blues iets schitterends maken het lijkt zo makkelijk, maar pas op
genial.
That's my opinion, thanks.
Nog steeds dikkippenvel van deze prachtige vertolking
The guitarist uses his thumb just like Wes Montgomery used to. I think this guy is much more interesting, though.
I agree. He has such deep melodic talent, with some phrasing reminiscent of Joe Pass. Absolute master.
awesome!!
who is the guitarist?
Roger Hill (1945-2011) played guitar. He played with the Chris Barber Jazz Band from 1978 to 1986. G.B.
@@jirkapik thank you!
