Really like your Dispatch and Receiving Scratch builds. I have been trying for a while to figure something out for my SDS BMT tankers and this is the best inspiration yet!
But I've never scratch built before would you have any suggestions on materials and where to find some decent plans?
Hi Caleb,
Over the years I have traveled around New South Wales and photographed any thing that is railway related and whilst up at Taree, I popped past the Manning Branch Milk Depot. These photos aided me in the design of my milk depot. I also googled milk depots and found some interesting photos online.
As for modelling materials, I like to use 1mm, 2mm, 3mm grey board, or 3mm foam core as the sub structure of the model. All very easy to work with and PVA is ideal for bonding. As I mentioned in the video, the brick on the milk depot is from the Scalescnes range of downloadable papers. You'll find a link to Scalescenes in the video description above.
I also scratch build using styrene. It is a brilliant medium to work with. If you have never scratch built a structure from styrene, I would recommend getting hold of the dvd 'Building Buildings with Geoff Taylor'. It is still available from DCC Concepts and Amazon

Evergreen and Plastruct do some fantastic shapes and angles in smaller packets which will always aid your builds. Tichy Train Group and Grandt Line produce some terrific doors, windows, lamps, brackets, handrails, porch posts, chimney tops etc, etc.
