    The Crate scared the shit outta me when I first saw it on HBO in the early 80s. I was alittle kid and even tho they barely showed the beast in the crate, the suspense was mind boggling.

    Tom Savini has always been a favorite. hes SO talented. i always thought the movie version of fluffy was a like a yeti, but the original story shows its an undead something. brought back by blood ?? a vampire thing, which would also explain going back to its crate and hiding in the dark, instead of fleeing.

    Very interesting theory. This has been my favorite Creepshow segment. Everything from the acting, the writing, practical effects, and John Harrison's amazing piano-based score. I was 6 years old when this came out, and it was a toss up between my brother and I if we were going to see Swamp Thing, or Creepshow. I won that coin flip, and my life was forever changed. Went to the Art Institute in Pittsburgh, went to the Monroeville Mall, and got a private tour of Tom's studio and got to chat with him and get some autographs. He is so humble and sweet. This movie, this segment, is in my top 5 favorite movies of all time. And this is the segment that boosted the entire movie, for me personally.

    Weird coincidence that King was hit by a car on June 19th so many years after Creepshow was made and the story about the arctic monster was written. There are many other coincidences like this, aside from the subtle ‘Easter Egg’ links King intentionally makes between characters and occurrences in his multiverses.
    I most appreciate your attention to details and all your speculations about them. Love your work!

    In 1987 when my brothers friend stole the vhs Tape from his parents that had “Haha” wrote on the label, I had no idea that I see ( or not) the thing that would scare me for years. The crate was the most deranged creature I’d never seen, nightmares galore.

  • @ImaginaShip
    @ImaginaShip 9 днів тому

    They could easily make a prequel to The Crate where they depict the arctic expedition when the creature was discovered and eventually captured before it was sent to the university. It could obviously have The Thing vibes in addition to revealing the creature’s origins as to what it is, whether it’s an inter dimensional demon or an ancient creature of some kind that can somehow survive for centuries without eating.

When Hal Holbrook is cleaning up waiting for Adrienne Barbeau (who knocked it out of the park as Wilma) and that creepy music is playing....perfect. I've always hoped maybe Mr. King could re-visit Horlicks University (I know "The Raft" is set there) but specifically to the Antarctic expedition. Has he ever done Arctic Horror, no right? It's kind of funny June 19th 1999 was the exact day I my life as I knew it ended. I was married to my wife. Our 25th anniversary is coming up and my life my end because I can't figure out what to get her.

    Fluffy becomes the Blob, and then the Blob gasses into and becomes "the Mist".

    You lost me with fluffy turning into a Blob at the bottom of a lake, and where did the sign comes from that said No Swimming. Now if Fluffy broke out the Crate and found a Cave as his new home. Now that I can believe

    I really like your description of being a kid and feeling helplesss against adults and the unjustness of the world. I wonder if Stephen King felt that way as a kid also and draws from that

    You know, funny thing is I saw this in a hotel room late at night when vacationing with my mom. I am not sure how old I was, but I was VERY young. I still knew how to turn on a tv. Woke up and they left it on HBO or something. Just saw Hal Holbrook roughing up Adrienne Barbeau and them arguing. Just kind of focused on it wondering what was going on and then YETI. So my mother woke up to her toddler screaming. Fun times.
    Of course I never knew what I had seen. Was wary of any ape like monsters in film through childhood, bigfoot scared me a lot and I think it is probably due to this. Got older, and there was the internet, so I started poking around for a movie about an ape monster that lives under the stairs or in a basement, you see it got turned off before anything about a crate was mentioned if I would have even remembered that part. I said yeti, but that's in hindsight. Because everything goes red when Fluffy attacks as a homage to old horror comics I didn't realize he was suppose to be a yeti. So 'ape monster', 'sasquatch' and 'weird looking werewolf' were the search terms.
    Took me to some interesting places, a lot of little known movies and even another more PG rated anthology called 'the Willies' but I could never find this one. It being an anthology segment probably didn't help. Then one day I was talking to someone and mentioned it, brought up that everything went red and they identified it immediately. That was a little less than a decade ago.
    So Fluffy has a special place in my hear... no he can go f himself.

    For the longest time I thought when I saw the film I thought that the live-action version of Looney Tunes Tasmanian Devil 😈. It looks like what it would look like in live form in real life. TAZ later I saw pictures of a real Tasmanian devil it doesn't look like either one but The Crate from Creepshow looks more like the looney tunes version than the real life version

    I was fascinated by Fluffy. I felt bad he met his end that way. Living on as a blob or breaking out to go get Howard??? Which is better? I liked the blob as well, but Fluffy is better.

    Yeah, it's classic and one of the most memorable monsters that scared me. The original TheTHING was right there, 😮too.
