- 2005 Dodge Charger 500
Darlington Raceway
May 7, 2005
After moving the Fall Darlington race to Texas in 2005, the lone remaining Darlington race moved from its traditional March date to Mother's Day weekend, a traditional weekend off. At the time, there was much doubt on how long Darlington would remain on the calendar altogether, but this race and the races in years afterwards proves why Darlington remains one of the main staples of the schedule. By 2015, the Southern 500 returned to its rightful place on Labor Day weekend. By 2021, Darlington returned to hosting two races a year - one on Mother's Day as NASCAR's Throwback Weekend and the other as the Labor Day traditional Southern 500.
Greg Biffle dominated the race, but a late race restart made Biffle work hard for his first win at Darlington. Also, Jeff Green and Michael Waltrip renewed a rivalry previously seen in the 2002 Sam's Club 200 at Rockingham.

The guys not realizing greg took 4 tires despite them SHOWING GREGS PIT STOP ON SCREEN where he clearly takes 4 tires (and dick bergren commentating the stop), AND not ever course correcting on it and just rolling with it despite how fast he was on “2 tires” is peak FOX
How many of you thought Schrader was gonna win prior to that last restart?

Cost Newman a Darlington 500 win. He’s always sat on the pole and ran great there. But never won.
