I was 12 when Night Gallery premiered on TV. That episode with Roddy McDowall scared the shit out of me - I loved it! It's still creepy to this day even though I know what's going to happen.
Hi I'm also born in the north in 1965.. I find you captivating and beautiful. You like the things I like. I always wanted to meet a girl like you. You are rare indeed.
The Cemetery story scared me to death as a child. I am 58, so I would have been 7 or 8 when this first aired. I was sleeping overnight at my best friend’s house, and we were in sleeping bags in her basement. We were screaming and my friend’s mom came downstairs and told us to quiet down! 😂😂😂
It was the show that I watched when I was younger, and still did when it was there. I was so enchanted of it,that I got the DVD series. And I still have it.
Your channel just popped up. I noticed it was from a year ago. I loved the Night Gallery series. I remember the ones you just talked about. The one with Roddy McDowell was good. You should check out the 1973 movie Legend of Hell House. He played in that too. Very creepy movie
I adored Night Gallery The story with Joan Crawford finally getting her eyesight But 4 ONLY 1 Night UNFORTUNATELY NY had a blackout She finally got saw a sunrise But Then her eyesight fades Steven Spielberg did that episode
There is a good book about the show that was published in 1999: ROD SERLING'S NIGHT GALLERY: AN AFTER-HOURS TOUR by Scott Skelton and Jim Benson. It is an episode guide as well as behind the scenes stories about the show.
The thumbnail, with the series of paintings of which the first is your portrait, is AMAZING. I think it may be, at least for my subjective taste, the best I've seen from you on all your channels, I love it.
The pilot for "The Night Gallery" was well-conceived and executed (no pun intended). Ossie Davis and Roddy McDowell were amazing. That vignette was very well-paced. It built suspense like a hailstone from Hell -- layer upon layer. My favourite episodes from the series were, "Pickman's Model" and "They're Tearing Down Tim Riley's Bar." Love the paintings.
I love Night Gallery too. Watched it often as a kid. However, I really enjoy listening to you. I’ve subscribed so I can listen to you more often. You make my workday much more enjoyable! Thanks! 👍👍😎
I enjoyed this vid/review so much. I dearly love Night Gallery, and that full pilot episode was EVERYTHING!!! Pfft! You kiddin me? Written by Rod Serling, and I thought I saw at least one vignette was directed by Steven Spielberg??? Great actors! Ossie Davis, Roddy McDowell, Later-Joan Crawford! And seeing Tom Bosley really deliver in such a dark, heavy, dramatic role was great. The intro 🎥🤩🎶🎶🎶💯was chilling. Lastly, perfect setup for a drinking game every time Roddy McDowell says, Portafoy🤩✨🧃🧃🧃🧃🧃🧃🧃🧃🧃🧃
Watching the shows again on dvd reminded me of how important tv was for tons of actors who probably wouldn't have made much of a mark at all in films. You see a LOT of familiar faces you remember from old tv movies and cop shows and other shows.
Your commentary is just right. I remember seeing a commercial for that pilot when I was a kid(I'm 62). Didn't actually see the whole thing until the 80s. Maybe I was too scared to watch it when it debuted or just missed it or maybe Mom made me go to bed. lol. It still stands up quite well. I watched some of the series in the early 70s and revisited it about ten or twelve years ago on dvd. Some of it I still like a lot. Other episodes don't really do much for me. Fun memories though.
Really liked Night Gallery. Especially liked the episode with Bill Bixby and the Greek statue that kept creeping closer. Jeez I was 12 when this came out, seems like yesterday. There may be a Night Gallery episode in that.
I watched the Night Gallery pilot when it first aired on NBC in 1969.The final episode was my favorite. What was not mentioned that Richard Kiley’s character was actually able to insert himself into the fisherman painting several times before getting caught by the Nazi hunters. So in the final scene when he is being pursued into the art gallery,he did not realize the paintings had been switched because it was pitch black in there so he automatically jumped into what he thought was his painting. He got exactly what he deserved, which is why I liked it so much.Maybe being only 15 at the time had something to do with it but as I grew older I realized not everyone gets what they deserve.Great analysis, though.I enjoyed the video very much.Brought back many memories for me.Please try to do a video on Pickman’s Model in the future,if possible.Thank you.
Up until a few months ago, Comet TV were showing blocks of Night Gallery episodes every Saturday.. unfortunately, they have changed the lineup to Tales from the Darkside. TFTD doesn’t have nearly the vibe that night gallery had :(
Yes,I remember the paintings as well! They were;”pretty unique!’Was Night Gallery made back in 1969?Wow!I didn’t know this show was that old?I was a child 🧒 in Grade School, back then! And,of course,Star Trek was still on in those day’s.I mean,it was on,in the late 1960”s on t.v.!The first wife of David McCallum,Jill Ireland,is also in this show. She was in Star Trek, and The man 👨 from Uncle, too.(I believe,as a guest star?].🌟
Captain Quint was in the Night Gallery movie and it’d probably been the best one ☝️ Rod Serling was totally screwed over by Jack Laird of Kojak fame and Mannix, okay? Pretty sad when the poor bastard is dead by age 49; despite the 4 packs of Kent cigarettes 🚬 🗣️ Tom Wright did those paintings while still in college! Please get your facts straight hun..?❤😂 Cheers for read A Behind The Scenes Look at the Night Gallery novella as well. Check out the Twilight Zone companion going frame by frame for each episode there Luv. 🥂
"The Night Gallery" gives off that cool, cheesy 70's vibe. Unfortunately, there are a lot of duds in the series and a lot of repetition in the stories after a while. The pilot was neat...guess the one about the graveyard painting was the most memorable story. Another thing...I didn't really care for the comedic vignettes between stories. One notable one starred Victor Buono.
Yeah, I heard Rod Serling hated those too, LOL. Not sure what the makers of the show were thinking with that; were they afraid the delicate sensibilities of the 70s couldn't take that much scariness at once or something? Hahaha.
@@thescaresalon4138 I watched a documentary about the series. They said Jack Laird was the head honcho on set and liked/wanted the silly vignettes...to the ire of Serling. Anyway, I think it was a bad call. Maybe you can review the 70's "Hardy Boys" series next.
@@QueenOfTheNorth65 Should have thought about the expense...sorry..I really don't have any idea how much it would cost.Didn't mean to upset anyone Apologies.
I got into Night Gallery a few years ago and the Roddy MacDowell segment freaked me out! Great series.

What an awesome series! Night Gallery gave me Nightmares and I loved the paintings!

I was a year younger and loved this series. That theme music still sets a creepy tone.
Such a great show. Thank you for covering it. Super nostalgic.
This movie scared the crap out of me when i was 8. Made a huge impression on me. I really love your comments and observations.

Loved your Night Gallery & Kolshak reviews. 2 of my favorites
Thanks! I want to do more in the coming months. 🙂

I remember back in the day,Famous Monsters magazine used to sell print/posters of some of the paintings in the ads.
🖤I Loved this series more than The Twilight Zone I know I am in the Minority 🖤
Night Gallery was better
@@JimmyG-uy7kd Agreed
I was always more of a horror fan than sci fi so totally agree
I saw this when I was a kid and they played it on late night tv, which was TERRIFYING.
I came here cause I thought she was gonna SHOW the episodes...😮💨
I use to love night gallery

Billy Goldenberg's music score really added to the terror of the first story.
Most of the paintings were done by Tom Wright, with the rest being done by Jaroslav (Jerry) Gebr. All brilliant works.
I liked the final segment more than you did. I saw it when I was nine
years old. The ending came as a complete surprise to me.

I loved the series…
Night gallery.. is my favorite, as well ✌️.
You know, for someone who planned so much for the surgery, you think she would schedule it so she could have several hours of daylight
Right? Real lack of foresight there (no pun intended).

Serling called Night Gallery "Mannix in a graveyard."
The ending scene is ambiguous. It's never really known what happens to Portifoy at the end, or if it was really Jeremy at the door.
I think "Night Gallery" is three seasons long. I own the boxed set.
Boris Sagal was the father of Katy Sagal of Married With Children fame. Also of the Sagal twins.
I remember when TBS , in the late 70s, would run it here and there. Sometimes paired with an episode of "Love, American Style" oddly. Great show !!!
The episode with the Nazi war criminal was perfect justice
$80 a month for Portafoy not $70 but just a small difference
Lovely voice. Lovely lady. Great episode!
I got that one 👻👍😁
The first episode is so scary - the other ones pale by comparison.

You are dead wrong...the Nazi story was riveting and Kiley's acting phenomenal...it was the best of the 3 stories...

Boris Segal., wasn't he the father of Katie Segal ?
It would be nice if you played some video clips from each episodes! The foul language is un-becoming
✌️🌹
😁
Why don't you show the movie instead of just reading your descriptions/interpretations of each segment?Letdown.
Because she doesn’t own the rights to show it. Do you have ANY IDEA how expensive that would be?

What is the point of this video? Duhhh
HUGE waste of the 10 seconds I watched. Skip this one, unless you like to watch this girl blab for 34 minutes, telling you what you already knew.....
