First time i hear the english dub. Pretty good but the original german actors had such emotion in their voice that made alot of the scenes more impactful
I watched the German version and it broke me when Paul stabbed the French guy in the crater, then instantly broke down crying before trying to helped the soldier. The emotion shown rubs off on the viewer, which is perfect.
Everything ist better with the real actors voices.
Great reaction this is a True Story written by a German Soldier! Only difference is he didn’t die in the War. I recommend the book as well
Die englischen Synchronstimmen sind furchtbar im Vergleich zum Original, keine Emotionen, keine Tiefe!!! Schaut euch das Original an!!!
I think the origional had real veterans of that war.
32:39
"What about the medallion?"
The "medallion", or dog tags, is used to identify a soldier in the instance he is killed in action. This scene in the movie where the young recruit forgot to take Paul's tags portrays all the nameless soldiers whose fates were not made known to their families back home.
Paul's mother will never know what happened to her son because his tags were not collected which indicates that he was lost to the war.
Also his mother didnt allow him to go to war so she was probably worried from start to finish
I watched it in German, so much more emotion comes through the screen
Winner of 4 Oscars including Best International Film.
This movie really shows what war really is: pure madness
It was such a good move but I cried my eyes out when his friend got burned alive by the french😭
Emma the British army had over 250,000 boy soldier's in ww1 between ages of 12 to 18. I suspect Germany probably had similar numbers. Even though the movie shows some pretty horrible things it was much worse and on a much larger scale than the movie shows.
The creeping barrage that buried them in their dugouts would have something that continued for days or weeks depending upon what battle it was just a continuous rain of shells.
Germany had far more young men than any other country in Europe except Russia. They also had a higher birth rate.
My grandfather's elder brother was drafted when he was 19, he committed suicide in 1946 at the age of 23
I hope this film will be in every countries history education program
We saw it this week in a Swedish school, so i guess more schools do too
The best war movies are anti-war movies.
You are a beautiful soul Emma, I really didn't like seeing you affected that way. This movie is an important educational tool showing the brutal horrors and senseless sacrifice of those young men's/boy's lives. Entire towns on both sides lost all their fighting age men in that war
My aunt once met Erich Maria Remarque in a train compartment in Europe. She thought he was a bit arrogant. Interestingly, at least to me, Remarque's second (and last) wife was American film star Paulette Goddard. Goddard had previously been married to Charlie Chaplin (with whom she starred in the WWII comedy-drama, The Great Dictator), and Burgess Meredith (best known to a younger audience as Mickey in the movie Rocky).
One of the greatest books ever written, from his own experiences as a German Soldier in WWI. One of the greatest testaments against war ever written. I wish more Germans had taken heed of his words and not been driven to take revenge for the awful treaty the French forced on them.
You might want to watch the 1930 version of the movie. The director was a WW1 veteran, as were most of the extras.
Can you provide the link bro... Plze... Yt link
Amazing film, I remember when I first watched it in German!
I think you were shocked 😳 is in it?
I just watched this movie yesterday, I could say it's the another side of 1917 (2019). The movie has an amazing sequence of events, excellent perspectives and great characters. I must confess I hoped another film would win: Argentina, 1985. I highly recommend it.
One the first books I ever read as a kid..
Bc of school or by choice?
Especially crazy considering this is happpening right now in Ukraine.
The trench battles in Bahkmut looks very similar to that.
I doubt it's anywhere as near as brutal and bloody as WWI. Large-scale infantry attacks against well-entrenched defenders last happened during WWII. During the Hundred Days Offensive in the final months of WWI both the Entente and Central Powers claimed 2,3 *million* casualties. By contrast the *entire* Russian-Ukrainian war has claimed an estimated 354,000 on *both sides* for 14 months of fighting. That's roughly 420 days of war.
So 2,3 million casualties means 23,000 casualties on average *every single day* during the Hundred Day Offensive of 1918.
354,000 casualties means 843 casualties on average every single day in the Russian-Ukrainian War of 2023.
So the daily average casualties were roughly 27 times higher every single day at the end of WWI compared to Bahkmut.
You should listen to the german version it gives off more emotion then the english dub.
EMMA MY GREAT GRANDFATHERS FOUGHT THIS WAR 1914-1918 AND MY GRANDFATHERS 1939-1945, AND ONE OF MY GRANDFATHER'S IN 1940 DURING THE BATTLE FOR FRANCE WROTE IT BEST IN HS WAR DIARY AND QUOTE "WARS ARE CREATED BY OLD MEN AND FOUGHT BY US YOUNG MEN AND POLITICIANS WILL BE THE DEATH OF US ALL." I THINK THAT SUMS IT UP BEST SINCE I TOO WAS CALLED UP FOR SERVICE IN THE 1980'S IN SOUTH AFRICA TO FIGHT THE WAR IN ANGOLA AND I TOO SAW A LOT OF YOUNG MEN DYING FOR NOTHING ALMOST FOR THE AMUSEMENT OF POLITICIANS WHOSE OWN SONS NEVER FOUGHT. TO THIS DAY I CAN STILL HEAR THOSE YOUNG WOUNDED MEN SCREAMING AND CRYING FOR THEIR MOTHERS, I AM CRYING AS I WRITE THIS AS I STILL SEE THEIR FACES IN FRONT OF ME. AND AS Y GRANDFATHER SAID AND I AGREE, WAR IS SUCH A TERRIBLE THING IT SHOULD BE AVOIDED AT ALL COSTS.
I highly recommend to watch "Under Sandet - Land of mine", "Das Boot - Directors Cut" and also "Stalingrad", all 3 in original language.
Central Powers never launch an attack on the last day, the allies did though
Heart-breaking, nostalgic, biographically-dramatic, multiple-Academy Award Winner 'The Killing Field's. 1984. Suggy.
I had just turned 18 when I serve my 1st. 13 month combat tour in Vietnam. 25 when I served my 2nd.

That is reality
I recommend Paths of Glory w Kirk Douglas and directed by the genius Stanley Kubrick 1957. Ps: I adore miss Emma 🎉
The English Dub was comparable to the the original in my opinion they are both well done.
_"Passchendaele"_ from 2008 is another great movie worth watching.
You should have reacted in germán with english subtitles
I would love to recommend the 1930 or 1979 version of this film too
Diesen Film muss man in deutsch sehen.
Yes, you are right!!!! Only at the end I realized that 🤔🤣😉
Grate movie!
I am suprised that a English dub exisits for the movie 😳
If you want some other good war movies, here are a few classics:
Zulu (1964) & Zulu Dawn (1979)
Hamburger Hill (1987)
Platoon Leader (1988)
The Great Raid (2006)
Gettysburg (1993)
Talvisota (1989)
Greyhound (2020) and Das Boot (1981)
Cross of Iron (1977)
A Bridge too Far (1977)
Stalingrad (1993)
Lmao Greyhound? 😂
Hacksaw Ridge and Saving Private Ryan
The scenes of tanks, Frontline combat, the wounded and what hell those men had gone through shows nothing changes after war then and now people are killed some have morality some don't it's them or you and madness happens and your mind breaks war kills people emotionally and physically if you come home in one peice your mind is damaged. Nothing changes.
Love your reaction Emma. This movie is very moving.
First time I've seen the English dub of this. It's actually pretty good.
I watched it in German with English subtitles.
This is an excellent movie but I still prefer the 1930 original which stays a lot closer to the book.
That being said I still think this movie gets across the central theme of the original book which is the sheer futility of war.
She looks good with less makeup like in this video. Very beautiful
Band of brothers & the Pacific.
'WARHORSE' DIRECTED BY STEPHEN spielberg. Have you seen it?
Brestskaya krepost (2010)
Bitva za Sevastopol (2015)
Idi i smotri (1985)
My granpa was too young. But his big brother died in the eastern front at the age of 15. Fighting for the nazis against the russians. Time has changed. At least here. Now look at some conflicts in africa for example. Humans are doomed.
🎶DUN DUNN DUNNN🎶
Hello Emma
Hello 😊
You should watch it in the German language for more authenticity.
This Movie shows everyone how reality can be when the time comes!
The trench battles remind me of James Darmondy
Daddy, what did YOU do in the Great War? (Feelings of guilt for not fighting in the war)
There Is a link that you can see the movie free but I lost it. Did you get ir. I would like to see the movie three or four times . Is spoken un english or german but the subtitles Is in spanish!!! Thanks !!!
I couldn't watch it through - it's tough viewing
@Emma Reactions Hi. Please review “Downfall” (original title: Der Untergang). Released in 2004. Vielen Danke, Liebes.
you shouldve watched it in german, but still great
Please, listen to the movie in German with English subtitles!
People who say it is a real anti-war movie are delusional. A real anti war movie is about LIES beneath the war. To this day, the only anti-war movie remains Apocalypse Now by Coppola.
dieser Film hat nichts mehr viel mit dem Roman zu tun dann ist die amerikanische Verfilmung eher an das Buch gebunden ,
To sam jest teraz na Ukrainie
An very important detail is the way the french marshal is treating the german abassador. Its foreshadowing what that dictatet treaty will bring up in the future. The traty of Versailles was one of the major reason for Hitlers rise to power in 1933 and the 2nd WW. France and Germany had a commong rivalry since the Italian-Wars. And were at highest peak after the Napoleonic Wars. Germans and Frensh hated each other. At the end of the second WW France damned even worse terms and literally wanted to vanquish Germany from the map. The Americans talked tham off that BS knowing if they would do that, there would be the next War just a decade later.
Are you French Canadian?
German
I love short hair on you.
Thank you!!! 😘
The book was equally very good and really awful. I'm glad I read it, but I feel once is enough.
Stalingrad is the bloodiest battle in human history and its only a battle of russian and nazis
Soviet Union and Axis powers. There were more than just Russians fighting on the Soviet's side and more than just Germans on the Axis' side (two Romanian armies, one Italian army and Croatian detachments. Of the estimated 1 million axis casualties 545k belonged to these)
english dub.....argh
Well,,, maybe the orignal german version,,,
Was better in german
Why didn’t you watched it in german?
why the f do people keep watching the dub and reaction when its in germany about german soldiers. Dubs always ruin stuff in translation and sounds fake as hell
PLS WACHING A WW2 FILM URSS VR N@ZI GERMANY WAR PLSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
I think the hardest thing is men only matter if they have a wife and children. How dehumanizing.
You severely misinterpreted something
😂😂😂😂🎉🎉😈🧟♀️🧟♂️
Never watch a dubbed movie!
She realy need to cencerd deaths, GUYS ITS LITERALLY IN NETFLIX💀
yes I liked my own comment.
The original movie was a lot better. It holds up amazingly well.
this movie only should be watched with original German language, it is much more emotional and sorry but the English dubbing is an absolute crap.
The original is better
