No matter how many times I listen to this, it shivers me down to my bones. I hear mountains, I hear chilling wind, I hear ancient forests, stars, fire and animalistic power in this. I never knew these were in me. It's a good shiver 💚
Because the original is not actually about modern paganism . It's an old Viking, Norse song referencing their culture. The words are obviously not English. It's from a time when people were truly free, drinking, living as "heathens" war, and sailing. The original mentions how they wish to be one from the animals blood they consume. You can find the song in Norse it's a gorgeous song.
It calls to the side you might have never known you had... it's it the raw wildness in all of us. It's the part that "sophistication" or "culture" tries to kill, but it remains all the same.

I am an Orthodox Christian man. I don't know who caused that bad relationship between you and your family, but right now only one religion threatens to ruin the West and that religion is neither yours nor mine. Your ancestors, as much as mine, did great things for our civilization. We can coexist without clashes and wars. May you always be strong and healthy, sister.
May I ask what pagans in the modern world believe? I didn’t realise it was an active religion. Is there a text or set of beliefs you follow or is it more of a diverse and wide group of people with different spiritual beliefs?
The person I loved the most on this earth was my grandmother. She was a single mother she ran away from my grandfather in the name of love and set off to America. Probably the farthest place a Middle Easterners could think of back in the 80. My mom was fourteen and my aunt twelve. She took her masters and PHD. My mom was in the first class of industrial engineers in my country and my aunt took her bachelors from there too. She was my idol in life, my everything. And no matter how hard evil and unkind the people and the world was. She never gave up an inch of her kindness and femininity. She most definitely raised two savage daughters. No one asked for this. But I miss her terribly and will love her always. may her soul rest in peace. The three of them deserve their flowers.
Before I found this song, I thought it was chinese song but I realize since when these chinese cultural song has an english word unless it was modern chinese song like C-Pop until I saw these vid.. Unexpected though
I was just marveling how she sounds like a native English speaker. I would never guess she is Russian and this is her 2nd language. I know she lives in Canada, but this English is native level. I heard her speaking Spanish proficiently, too, on Spain's Got Talent. I'm blown away by her talent.
Even though I am from Bengal, this pagan culture and northerners' songs hit the most to me every time... Their song has so much of reality and less of music 🎶
We women, no matter what religion or country we are from, we know that as long as we join hands with women, we are strong🫶🏼 long live all the women who make the world beautiful🌹♥️🌸
Im Irish, scottish, french, native American and a whole bunch more.. when she sings it speaks directly to my soul. This is basically a war cry to women to stay wild and stay strong 🥰
This is my absolute favorite rendition of this song! I love the visuals with the hand shadows, I love her voice, the infliction she uses with the word broom, I love the drumming, everything about it is absolutely amazing and resonates so deeply for me. My only complaint is the one part of the song that is missing, the one with the lyrics about cursing too often, laughing too loud, howling at the moon, etc. I wish this version contained that part so badly. Many other versions have it, but they just do not resonate as deeply for me as this one does. 🤲✨️🦋👑

My mother passed away a week ago and I am creating the playlist for her Celebration of Life. As I listened to this deeply empowering song, I scrolled through the comments. From the bottom of my broken and lost heart, thank you for writing this. Thank you for every word. ❤
I'm German. I am thankful and proud for my mother to raise me her savage daughter - something she couldn't have from her mother. It took me 30 years to realize this. That her suffering and sacrifices she had to endure and the lessons she thaught me, raised me as the woman I am, thought me humbleness, selfworth and strenght. Someday I want to tell her how proud and thankful I am to everything she has shown me (the good, the bad and the ugly) and how she is the strongest person I'll ever know.
God, you ve just GOT to DO it now, dont delay cause people miss the opportunity and the time and then live in deep regret... Wish you all the best in life?!:)))
I love how there are people from different countries, different religions in this comment section, all saying this song touched them. We all crave at some level the simple yet complicated peaceful storm of nature. Love from an atheist Hungarian girl, and don't lower your voice!
The hands shadow is like the representation of "disturb" that we get through our life. They'll tried to control you into submissive, but the lyrics that said "I will not cut my hair, I will not lower my voice" is like the "stubborn" of our character that never give what the shadows wanted. In the end when she sing the "our" part, there's new shadow among her like she's being protected by her ancestor or the support of all the women in the world, and the bad shadow is gone, living the shadow that protected her alone. It's so beautiful, that it's hard to explain. But I tried my hardest to write it from my perspective.
This song touches something so deep in my soul. It brings me to tears every time. Not tears of sadness. tears of Devine feminin power. I don’t even know how to explain this but I just love it and everyone who knows what I mean ❤️

I am a descendant of Irish, Scottish, Welsh and German and Nordic Viking (small amount, likely going way back when Vikings invaded Scotland, so this absolutely sings to my soul. And yes, of all the siblings, I am the youngest, and the savage, daughter. Always connecting with nature and dancing through the woodlands. I feel at peace when walking through the woods, sunlight glistening through the open canopy of the trees, looking to connect with all the wildlife. There is no better place to be!
Listing random nationalities aside, why would that be the reason you connect to this? I mean sure I can't say what nordic vikings traditionally sang but tradional music from scottland, Ireland, Wales and Germany sound a lot different

I'm wiccan/pagan. I spent a chunk of my childhood playing in the marshes and bogs in my backyard. Ducks, geese, deer, pheasants, birds and butterflies were my only playmates. I'd often lose my flip flops in the muck. My long hair was eternally tangled and Goddess forbid I let my mother brush it. This song feels like an anthem to child me, a wild savage, product of the Earth Mother before she even knew who or what the Goddess was. Blessed be!

All my Ancestors are awake now... I needed this so much... I AM my Mothers Savage Daughter! It transcends any and every religion, in my humble opinion.
How are your ancestors awake Kathleen? And more importantly, why are they awake now? You are your mothers daughter. Which daughter is not her mother's daughter? What about the father whose sperm gave you your gender? I genuinely want to have a conversation with someone, anyone on this.
I’m Welsh and Norwegian - my mother passed on (Welsh/Mercian woman) and this song travels through my veins and brings her back to me as I breathe in and close my eyes
My mother is big into genealogy and has traced my father's side back to find out I'm blood related to Eric the Red and this song reached in and grabs the Viking in me.

I am a Trinidadian woman who has a family that doesn't understand me, i mean the real me. This song reaches out to my soul, touches it and embraces me.
I don’t know where to put this. I have something to say, but words are not enough. This song is Majik! It is dust. It speaks to so many from so many cultures and traditions. It is purity of soul and purity of intent. It reaches beyond and brings something back that can not be denied or destroyed. I hear the feather dance. I hear the melody of the feathers as the drum beats and my hands move to quietly express the melody. An affirmation of the feminine. I hear the defiant witch, the mountain warrior, the healer in the wood. I hear the explorer, the seafarer, the artisan, the weaver spinning ancient truths. I hear the leader, the dreamer, the soothsayer, the creator, the mother giving birth. And I cry with gratitude every single time.
You never spent much time in nature, did you? Likely the wolves would play with you, then foxes and birds would play with what's left and the rabbits wouldn't want to have any part in it (I'm not hating, just stating)
Wyndreth Berginsdottir is immensely talented and this song is so haunting. I’m sure it resonates with so many cultures not only Nordic/Celts. Well done on this version so beautiful.
Was looking in the comments to see if anyone would give Wyndreth credit. She has such a powerful voice and I’m glad someone knows the origin of this song.

I'm a pagan woman who has been disowned by my devout christian family for not fitting into their box. This song speaks to my soul.
Integrity is a brave and raw wilderness - find your people - we're here
May I ask what pagans in the modern world believe? I didn’t realise it was an active religion. Is there a text or set of beliefs you follow or is it more of a diverse and wide group of people with different spiritual beliefs?
I have been disowned too by my Jewish parents. Cheers sister✌️
Love to you x

I play this for my mother often. I want her to know in her passing, she is strong and raised strong women.🙌😭❤️

I was waiting for this! this was our idea and I am so happy you felt it! thank you for your comment! ❤❤❤

I am my mother's savage daughter
The one who runs barefoot
Cursing sharp stones
I am my mother's savage daughter
I will not cut my hair
I will not lower my voice
My mother's child is a savage
She looks for her omens in the colors of stones
In the faces of cats, in the falling of feathers
In the dancing of fire
In the curve of old bones
I am my mother's savage daughter
The one who runs barefoot
Cursing sharp stones
I am my mother's savage daughter
I will not cut my hair
I will not lower my voice
My mother's child dances in darkness
She sings heathen songs
By the light of the moon
And watches the stars and renames the planets
And dreams she can reach them
With a song and a broom
I am my mother's savage daughter
The one who runs barefoot
Cursing sharp stones
I am my mother's savage daughter
I will not cut my hair
I will not lower my voice
We are all brought forth out of darkness
Into this world, through blood and through pain
And deep in our bones, the old songs are waking
So sing them with voices if thunder and rain
We are our mother's savage daughters
The ones who run barefoot
Cursing sharp stones
We are our mother's savage daughters
We will not cut our hair
We will not lower our voice
We are our mother's savage daughters
The ones who run barefoot
Cursing sharp stones
We are our mother's savage daughters
We will not cut our hair
We will not lower our voice
We are our mother's savage daughters

Cursing sharp stones
We are our mother's savage daughters
We will not cut our hair
We will not lower our voice

Can't even begin to express how in love with this song I am.

Every time I listen to this song, I feel like I'm in nature, playing with wild and beautiful wolves, rabbits, foxes, birds, etc.

Nossa! Eu tbem...🥰🫠
You never spent much time in nature, did you? Likely the wolves would play with you, then foxes and birds would play with what's left and the rabbits wouldn't want to have any part in it (I'm not hating, just stating)
I feel connected to the world. When I go on nature walks I play this, when I want to feel... free, I play it.
When I need to remind myself..of myself, I come here. ❤🔥

Oh My God! This song makes me feel so many things! Amazing ❤
This is crazy! I love this song and I’m so happy she sang it because her voice is ABSOLUTE MAGIC! 🖤🥹
I cannot stop listening to this song, it's on repeat for the whole day. Absolutely wonderful voice and the best cover for this song i've heard on the internet.
Wow ! 😍👍
