It is a tricky little topic this one - I've had plenty of students down the years that haven't grasped it at the first attempt. Well done for mastering it! I hope it comes up in your exams.
You were saying that if the examiner is nice then they will leave then annual net return there for you but what if they dont and they put the maintenance costs and you have to work out annual net return by yourself. How would you do that? do you know where i could find out? thanks
To calculate it yourself, you just deduct any annual maintenance cost from the annual cash inflow to get the annual net return. Depending on your exam board, you may well not have to do that though - because it's a tougher topic compared to others, most exam boards tend not to over complicate it.
It may vary from exam board to exam board. Each specification will be on the exam board's website for you to check. However, strategic topics tend to be reserved for Year 2 of the A level.
There are two parts to determining net return. The first part is estimating the return on a project. If we were to buy a machine for our company, of course, we would not know that it would exactly return $500 per year, so this would be an estimated value calculated using statistics. The second part is converting that nominal future amount into "present value money." Does that help at all?
This took me forever to learn, then this video made it look so simple.

how to calculate net return if it is not given
