I find it difficult to watch most series on TV because most are so terrible but After Life is one of the best things I have seen in the last 10-20 years. It's dark and sad and then so incredibly funny that I have to pause Netflix until I can stop laughing out loud and gather myself so I can keep watching it. I almost never watch ANYTHING twice but after I finished the series, I started it again the next evening. It's touching, sweet, funny, beautiful and true to life.
@Sir Trollsalot Follow this link to a funny Australian, Tim Minchin, who I like to believe has the same kind of relationship with his wife as Ricky does. It's 12 mins....sit through the song, stay for his banter afterwards. The song sets up the gag. ua-cam.com/video/Zn6gV2sdl38/v-deo.html Highlights..... "AWWWWW are you studying Feminism at Uni" AND "FUCK YOU BABY!"
I watched After Life and I can truely relate to it from my own experiences. Tony is a great , believable character. I hope in ten years or so , Ricky will bring him back for an hour special. Maybe show if he has moved on and how far. The ending kind of left you to make up your own mind about what his future should be.
@Steve Cox First of all Ricky Gervais is tremendous, a genius. I thought this interview was carried out with great respect for him and the questions the young interviewers posed were exactly what their listeners wanted. I do not understand why there is such negativity towards these young professionals. They are doing a good job. They are not rude, disrespectful or arrogant. I would fall in to the old fart category but I found these young people to be intelligent and fully capable of doing their jobs.
Congrats on how far you've come roman, I've randomly caught you on the odd thing since copa90 wc '14 and you've gone on to continue to do great things really well, keep it up 👌👍
@@Paddy.C Yeah, that's right. I noticed there were a number of references to old XFM jokes / conversations. Even the (hair) of a chinaman was in there, but not mentioning hair. Hmm...
Just binged them all, brilliant series, just one act that's not redeemable in one of the episodes and stays with you till the end and it seemed he had no remorse or guilt, was truly strange. Nether the less very enjoyable.
Marc James without wanting to spoil for anyone do you mean the bit that concludes on a mattress? I kind of agree but I think ultimately it was a man in the depths of his own depression doing a ‘nice’ act. Gervais has always been an advocate of assisted suicide and in that case the guy was literally begging to end it. (If you weren’t referring to that bit then sorry for clogging up your reply section 😂)
@@alanwhitby8729 yeah that's the bit I was on about. I can understand your point, but I think Ricky only supports assisted suicide for the terminally ill, not depressed junkies. 1st step get clean, 2nd step get therapy. Might have jumped the gun a bit too quick by straight up helping kill the dude. I enjoyed the series though, still funny and touching. Did you like it?
Oh absolutely loved it but I completely agree it was a very strange story arc (which is never really spoken about again after that tiny discussion with his brother in law - where he completely denies it). I was simply trying to understand why Gervais may have included that scene and you’re right that “it was because he supports assisted suicide” was probably me clutching at straws.
Ricky looks like he's trying to cling on to the last bit of hair he has left. If you took away all the gel he uses to style it back I bet he'd be mostly bald already. When he does go bald Karl should squeeze his head and get some revenge.
Ricky is a genius....but this is awful! In fact his last few efforts have been awful and savaged by critics and serious fans alike. Maybe the bar was set so high with The Office and The Golden Globes? Or perhaps the Gervais sycophants have realised the one thing Ricky highlights as not being funny. 'someone hawking their stuff in every interview trying to be funny all the time isn't funny'
I could not disagree more. This is one of my favorite things he has done yet. After his stand-ups my favorites are After Life and The Invention Of Lying.
I'd rather be nowhere with her, than somewhere without her'. What a fabulous thought.
The young interviewers asked several relevant questions. They are learning and how wonderful to be able to talk to someone as articulate as Gervais.
After Life is absolutely brilliant!
I never thought I liked Ricky till I watched Afterlife. He takes you on the journey with him and you feel every emotion he does.

I kind of imagine this is how Ricky and Jane are at home....slouched on the sofa getting drunk with Ricky randomly pranking Jane... LOL
I like to think she gets him good too.

Thank you for telling the truth. The anger and grief is really that bad, only society and friends don't want to hear it.

This show made me cry 😟
I have gone from no liking Ricky knowing he is a total genius after watching After life
Fell in love with the "older" widow on the bench. Not sure why, but she was beautiful to me.
She was phenomenal. When his character sat next to her, I felt so relieved and also jealous 😂

I fucking love this man ❤️❤️❤️❤️

This character is like my life
Good luck, man.
The interviewer kid looks like he just got a free class from school and snuck off to do a radio interview
The yeast and rice pudding stories he told on XFM radio years ago. It wasn't researched for Afterlife
Yeah, didn't some new neighbour turn up with a dish of breast milk rice pudding as a house-warming gift in the Xfm story?

The "Scarred for life" with the old lady at the kiosk was mentioned in his Politics stand up show years ago.
everyone hating on the interviews couldn’t do half as good of a job they did just fine
A decent interview about a great show and as usual people spewing insults about people they don't know

Well you've all managed to spoil for unsuspecting comments readers, something important as a reveal as the story unfolds in the show. Tsk
A) You control your eyes and what they read!
B) Serves you right for not watching it by now.
WELL HELLO THERE!
Fucking Hell, must have felt like visiting a bloody nursery!
Ronan Kemp proper helmet !
Ricky without Karl, unthinkable
Was it bring your kids to work day at Crapital?
Like, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Like, yeah? Like, you know, yeah. Yeah.
That logo is really awful. Can't stop looking at it and wishing I could change it
Afterlife or Capital?

Okay I'm too old for these presenters. Sorry I know it's radio so they have to be hyped. But jeez, they just annoyed me...
yes im afraid you are
I doubt you have to be young to not find these idiots irritating

Lol he's made jokes about hair loss for years, saying he looks like a baby bird when he wakes up 😂 he's very self aware
It happens naturally to pretty much every male over 50

After life was flat, characters lacked depth, didn't really have a plot.
Clearly your a moron, and completely missed what After Life was about. Gervais was brilliant as usual and left one thinking.
