Hank Worden, the actor playing the trooper who rode with Forrest's cavalry, was actually raised on a cattle ranch in Montana. What's even more impressive is that he was educated at Stanford University and University of Nevada as an engineer. He toured the country in rodeos as a saddle bronc rider before he made his way into films. One story has it that during one ride, his horse landed atop him and broke his neck, but aside from a temporarily sore neck, Worden did not know of the break until x-rayed twenty years later. There were A LOT of very talented people who ended up in Ford's pictures. And as someone who rides horses, I watched his performance and that of the other actors, and I can tell you that it takes a great degree of horse riding skill to act as buffoons as they do here without hurting themselves or the horses.
@@edwardmoore5325 Chances are that he signed into the Fed Cav without ever being involved with the KKK. It was a budding organization in 1865-67 and then was almost exclusively in the South States. Doubtful that any Fed Cav Western troops were party to it, if aware of it at all.
I must have been ten years old when my father showed me and my brothers this movie. When the film was over I got two blankets and a fake gun, and with one blanket for a pillow and the other for a cover, I slept between the curtain and the living room window, pretending to be a ranger of the area, waiting for a night raid by the Indians. Thank you father! 🌵🐎🌵
An absolutely Great Clip and a Grand memory of those Old Golden Day's. IT was back about then? That Our Dad decided My Sister's and I needed Riding Lessons, and learn Horsemanship Skills. The ex-Bedford Forrest trooper is played by Hank Worden, a skilled horseman as depicted here, who eight years later would play the memorable character Mose Harper in The Searchers.
I would put The Horse Soldiers in there, but it was made a number of years later. I worked for The NEW doing Civil War Living History Interpretation at pretty much Every National Battlefield and at times we would break 1st person to use some of the great lines that were in these movies.
bd C Did The Late Pedro Armendariz Sr. With His Dashing Handsome Black Hair And Mustache Made Him A Favorite Among Beautiful Women? Not To Mention His Wearing A Suit And Necktie. I Await Your Answer.
Any time I see a movie with military basic training, it looks the same for any generation, any service, little has changed other than the equipment, the uniform or the recruits, the sergeants all sound the same, all yelling at you all the time.
Interesting how misinformed the Sergeant is about "the greatest cavalry force that ever lived." Seriously? I have no doubt the Mongols of the 13th century could teach the cavalry of ANY 19th century force lots of things about horse riding.

you can tell that they all know how to ride well, but its fun to wach just the same.
If he rode with Forrest who was the founder of the kkk and a Confederate how did he wind up in the Union Army?
@@edwardmoore5325 this was probably after the civil war. The army maybe all he knew, and joined up again, but this time in the union army.
@@edwardmoore5325 Its a movie too.

peter james
I'm pretty cool.
Yes he was great It takes a good actor to act simple convincingly.
Two absolute legends…Pedro Armendariz and Hank Worden
Pictures like this are never going to be made again, that’s a darn shame.
Gran director John Ford, gran elenco John Wayne..Henry Fonda..etc❤❤
John Ford's sense of humor in a scene that's notably well recorded. Everything in this movie is well done.
Hank Worden was the uncle of a very good friend of mine. The funny part is, my friend can't ride to save his life.
I love these older films!

This is Ft Apache. Now that's a cavalry man!!! road with Bedford Forrest
I love this movie!
So... ye've never ridden a horse before, eh? Well, here we've got some horses that have never been ridden. Y'can all learn together.
Victor as yhe immortal SGT Mulcahy.
The Late Mexican Actor Pedro Armendariz Sr. Did Indeed Speak Perfect American English In This 1948 Film Classic " Fort Apache". I Await Your Response.
Too Funny!
Must have hurt!
The Mexican legend....Pedro Armendariz
He also had a degree in engineering. Many of the people in Fords company were very accomplished in different fields.

Would love to see the whole movie 🎥🍿
It's hard for me to imagine the men folks in that era weren't familiar with horse back riding unless they were dudes from major eastern towns.
great movie!!
Hope that no horses were hurt. First guy looked experienced. Always rode my sister's quarter horse bareback.
merveilleux.....
The soldier that rode with Forrest is wearing modern blue jeans.

Modern films can't do these scenes...no character actors, no humour...😢
In the scene,"Stay On That Horse",did anyone get injured?
Hilarious!
how to get there?
Hilarious 😂
