Wow. It felt cold when that is what you filmed and described. And warm when warmth was the message. What a really neat-o landscape, trail, shelter system.
These are great shots! I'm especially impressed with the (what I'm assuming is) drone work. All-in-all, very nicely put together and helpful as I consider doing my own hike of this trail. Thanks!
Well done. I started the OT back in late November. After 9 days on the trail, my feet and legs were shredded (chaffing). I made it to Hwy 27 and called it quits. However, I returned in early February and did Hwy 27 to Hwy 7, and they last weekend I finished Hwy 7 to Pinnacle. That is the longest trail I have ever completed, and even though I didn't finish as a single end to end trip, I am proud and satisfied that I knocked out the whole trail. I enjoyed your editing and narration. Good job.
My only minor criticism is when you video your feet walking. That can make a viewer dizzy. However, the few seconds of slow-motion made it a non-issue.
Winter hiking in solitude on a warm, sunny winter day and in a beautiful place is a wonderful experience. Take away the warm and sunny part and it's less so for sure. Better luck next time!
Great video! Thanks for sharing! I don't think I caught it.. when did you hike it? I'm looking at doing this trail in late winter or early spring this year.
since I switched to trail runners i think id find it difficult to go back to boots. I think next time id bring different water crossing/camp shoes; this hike i only brought flip flops that were barely, if at all, used
@@kovenant7 hmmm its a tough one, but i think so. my socks/shoes would freeze overnight and i think boots would too; id imagine they'd be tough to get into in the AM. but it really is just personal preference
Cool video. When you skipped from hwy 27 to Mt Tabor Road you missed some of the best scenery, but Irons fork would have been too high to cross so that is understandable.
Great video! Does it bother you hiking in cold, wet and somewhat frozen socks and/or shoes? If I accidentally step on the tiniest bit of water and get my sock(s) wet, I gotta go put clean, dry socks on. That drives me nuts. I'd never make it out there! 😂😂😂 Looking forward to your next adventure!
Just curious - why did you scoop water with the sawyer bag and then dump it in the cnoc rather than just scoop with your cnoc? Also, I use a small blue connector piece to attach my bottle right to the sawyer so you don't have to get perfect aim while it filters lol
@@farmtotrail246 i just use the scooper out of habit because some water sources ive used are difficult to scoop or super dirty... def didnt need it for this one😂 and yess since then i got the blue connector piece and its a great setup

Very good video! Looks like a great hike
@@keithshedron4351 thanks! even in the freezing cold it was awesome

@@dhughesphd thanks a bunch
I’ve done the “eagle rock loop” trail there. Can’t wait to go again.
Very nice presentation. Thank you for sharing this adventure with us. Please keep up the good work!
thanks so much!
Another spectacular video and story. Thanks for sharing with those of us who dream of doing what you are doing but are not able to.
thanks so much!

heck yeah, solid job! cant wait to return to finish someday too.
Excellent videoing technique and concise narration. You let the trail do the talking. Well done.

@@JD03ish yeah that's totally fair! i appreciate the feedback.
Wow!!!! You talk the talk but more importantly you walk the walk…Great job, thanks!!!!!!!!!
ayyy i'll take it! hahaha :) thanks for watchin, as always. hope all is well w/ you
Man I love it. Great video and narration. As Appalachian Trail Thru hikers i love this stuff.
Looks like a great hike for sure. Thanks for sharing.
i think the OT should & will gain popularity as a great warm up to the AT... thanks so much for watchin!!

@@soulslosher thx so much! jan 5-14 of last yr... it was frigid. i think if you pick a good 2 week window, late winter/early spring would be perfect!
@the_hippe Excellent! Thanks. Late Feb. or early March looks perfect barring any late season snow/ice storms.
BTW - are you related to a Dan Hippe?
@@soulslosher nice hope it works out. and yes thats my dad!
@@the_hippe Such a small world! I was emailing with him about Ridge Runner positions on the AT. Saw the last name and thought what are the odds...

@the_hippe But with the socks freezing. You would still rather trail runners even in freezing temps?

Some tough weather to contend with. Were you okay with the solitude?
i wish there were more people out there but for a shorter hike it wasn't too bad

yep wet feet is definitely one of the most annoying things out on the trail. dry socks are valuable!!

Did you run into anyone else on the trail?
not a single person! I knew it'd be cold, but i thought i'd see at least a few fellow hikers. just meant i had the shelters to myself every night!
