    I used this system years ago and didn’t really work.
    So what I do now is I just put my tasks straight into my online calendar in order of priority - bypassing creating any list in any task manager.
    I’ve found that just putting tasks in my calendar is the most efficient way to work - if it’s in the calendar it gets done, plus I can move tasks around if I want and I can search when previous tasks were done and know the date, day and time.
    In effect my calender is my to do list.

    Very true. I’m self diagnosed ADHD and ever since I’ve started “eating the frog” and “choosing 3 tasks” I’ve gotten a lot better.
    For Mac users, you can do this with the stickies app! It’s great because it doesn’t take up processing power of your computer. Make it “float” on top of everything and you’ll constantly have to move your sticky around while you’re working which keeps your tasks top of mind 👍

    I use the Bullet Journal that keeps me focused, and you are right: crossing off some things on a short list is so much more satisfying than working with an endless list. Like reading a newspaper that will be finished, telling me: "You are done". Instead of endless scrolling through repetitive (and often not so important) news.

    I use the flip note pad for (tasks) and a journal for my ideas ,the flip note pad makes it easier to differentiate where to keep ideas and where to keep (tasks) and it's just way simpler to track my todo-list.

    I really love the combination of hybrid and digital. I keep an A6 Mnemosyne on the couch armrest to capture random ideas or to-dos that pop up in my head while I am watching TV. It really helps me stay present while watching a movie with my wife or chatting with friends. End of the day I just rip off the pages and drop them at my physical inbox on my desk. Process them like any other input the next day.

    I do something similar but in a different way. I pick up three to four important tasks and move them to My Day (MS-ToDo), copying them to color square paper notes. I do what I do during the day, but by the end of the day, I shred the note. Whatever I complete, I mark as done on the paper and in the app, and whatever is left open moves to the day after. I don't like to collect papers, because I can drawn in piles of papers.

    Hello Carl, with your love of pen and paper, I wonder if you are also considering organising calendars and tasks on paper as well?
    I activated my X47 leather notebook as a test and, as before, recorded everything there. Just quickly turn the page to find an appointment, scroll through the notes and simply cross through completed tasks. The whole thing written with my MontBlanc fountain pen. This is pure deceleration. I even have some overviews and lists back in my leather book and can just check quickly. Of course, I also have Apple notes with 2000 notes, but do I really need this for everyday business? Of course, it depends on what profession you have. I am in the IT industry and even there, I can organise many of my projects and almost all tasks in my book. Of course, when I create new employees and assign software, then of course I use our special software. But I can do my organisation of the tasks with it and it feels good. I have the impression that I am more focussed and less distracted. Let's see how long I'm going through this experiment. At the moment it works great and somehow I also secretly wish that it continues like this. My colleagues smile about it and say that it would be backward and outdated, but I am the one who opened his calendar in a meeting in no time and entered an appointment.

      Hi Christoph, I've found the digital calendar works best for me. Carrying with me (on my phone) is easier, and dragging and dropping events is easy.
      Where paper has an advantage for me is in planning. It helps me to think better and absolutely no distractions.

    I don't quite understand how people can choose 2-3 tasks and say as long as those are done, the day is successful. Maybe it is a stage of life thing? On my task list for today, I've got the usual work stuff, but I've also got to email the kids' school about something, cook pasta for the kids lunch for the next few days, call the landlord about an A/C issue, make sure I pay the electricity bill, etc., etc., I can't just not do those things. Is this just a matter of my not having the privilege to just focus on a few work-related tasks each day while someone else does all the other stuff, or does the other stuff just get left off a task list, or what?

    • @Carl_Pullein
      @Carl_Pullein  Місяць тому +2

      Hi Jeremiah, It's not just doing two or three things. You will have many other things to do. What you write down on this list are the two or three things you MUST do today.
      You can do anything today, but you cannot do everything today.

  • @fsmeza

    I think I saw that you use todoist. Why not then use their Calendar feature with a due date and also flag the level of priority? It seems like that would achieve the same thing that you are doing?

    • @Carl_Pullein
      @Carl_Pullein  Місяць тому

      At the moment, the calendar view in Todoist doesn't work for me. It doesn't show me my appointments. The other important factor is that Todoist is not open on my computer all day. When I am working, it is closed. The notebook is always in front of me and doesn't take up any screen space.

      Ooh, I remember doing that when I was teaching - there were piles of scraps of paper and I would collect it up, fold it and make notebooks out of it. Sadly, copy paper is not particularly fountain pen friendy.

    I'm assuming 2 things. 1) The task recorded in the A7 note are sourced from a ToDoist Task or Project list. 2) At the end of the day or next morning the task completed in the A7 notepad are "Completed" in the ToDoist source listing. Is this correct? Thank You for sharing this practice.

    • @Carl_Pullein
      @Carl_Pullein  Місяць тому +1

      Yes. I take the two tasks from my two objective tasks for the day (which are in Todoist). At the end of the day, when I close down my day, I will update Todoist and process my inbox.

    So now I’m a little confused. What about Today’s Objectives and Today’s Focus? Isn’t that what you write down? Again? I get the point of having these in your face all day if you’re sitting at your desk. But if you don’t - 🤞 for you - it seems like redundant to me. ✌️

    • @Carl_Pullein
      @Carl_Pullein  Місяць тому

      Yes, yes, it's my two objectives (many people watching the video won't know about those, though). The problem I face with everything in Todoist is that It is not open on my computer all day. I am doing work. As I get into my focused work, it's easy to forget there is something else equally important that needs my time and attention.

    • @aardening

      @@Carl_Pullein haha, I get this. I write my objectives in my calendar aside my time blocks. Maybe it’s a generation thing?
