- Tiny tweaks - big differences. Nigel Allen reports on the magazine modifications introduced by Daystate to improve their 10-shot loading system... plus brings you a potted history of the unit's development down the years.

I made my own alloy probe for pellet loading on my Huntsman, but this as you say is a brilliant upgrade. Must check to see if they do them after-market 'cause I'll be replacing.
Betcha they're still a pain to strip down, if that little spring fly's out the swearing level goes right up. And I can never remember how many turns to give them for the preload when re-assembling
Excellent Nigel! And well edited, which pellets are you using in your AW? My mk4is is like a laser with JSBs. FMG
@tadpoles10 Yeah - saw that one. It's a great DIY idea if you own one of the old mags.
@StealthDemon22 That's what I often use - or the back of another pellet! Believe me, the new shape makes life a million-times easier. I'm going to buy a shed-load for my own rifles
Brilliant video, thanks for the up date. What to do with the old one?? send it to me of course LOL!!
@phishitaac LOL If you're saying I'm a big fan... well, you're right!!! (I discovered this mag tweak when I was testing their Air Ranger and Air Wolf and filmed it at the same time... but thought it deserved a film all to itself, though.)
@PracticalNTactical They do them as after-market - and they are all retro-fittable. Like you say, though, that spring has a mind of its own when you try to strip the mag!
Brilliant vid Nige I love the humor. This is something that most Daystate users have been asking for for ages. Well done Daystate!

@MultiLongacre Worth it - I'm going to get a couple for my .177 AW and .22 MK4.
Thanks. I'm using a very old batch of AAF - but I do a lot of pellet-testing with this rifle and can tell you that all JSB-made ammo (FX, Exact, Daystate) shoots equally as well. Daystate RangeMaster Li (Crosman-made???) go well, too. RWS Superdome are okay, but lack the long-range ability of the aforementioned. Would you believe Milbro Select shoot brilliantly out to 35 yards? Actually, very few brands DON'T group well out to 30 - it's just JSB are laser-like (to quote you) at distance. Nige
Thanks - are you a Jackal owner, then? Superb air rifles of the 1980's. If so, which model you got?
Yes - a good tip for converting old-style mags (at your peril!)... and there's a great video on doing this elsewhere on UA-cam
Thank you! I can't believe there are still many on the fence after talking to people about the electronics of the.daystate! Even though daystate have been making them since 2000 I think?! Mine will do pellet on pellet at 45 yards out door in hunting condition(calm day) and that is really easy with not much effort from myself! I'm lookinv into getting a huggett full shroud to complete the rifle. FMG
Sounds cool. Have you done a vid of it - we'd like to see.
Thats good news, I didn't know that they had again modified the mag. Think i'll treat myself to one of these.
Trefor
Fine video, as always, congratulations.
@AirgunTV Cheers Nige yeah I thought that it would be quite simple to modify and it was you can't really mess it up. Good luck! Great videos by the way I love watching them :)
James
great vid have to say im a air arms owner and i sometimes have a job getting the pellets into it i use a match .
any ho great vid and i hope you found that mag nigel lol
All these years on and I still like my Daystates and have still kept my mk4 but... their magazines are expensive and problematic, my HW100 on the other hand is flawless, holds more and NEVER fails to cycle or jam a pellet.
I'm wondering how you removed the pin the first time? No pocket pliers I've got will remove it. And so far, neither have my vice grips! I need to make mine right side load. Thanks.
@mrcol1n Seriously? I wonder if the show sample had been broken by the punters in any way. I've used all versions of Daystate's mags - in .177 and .22 - for around 10 years (probably >30,000 pellets!) and I can't ever recall a single, non-indexing issue. If you don't quite engage the bolt it may happen... but that's more a shooter-related problem than a mag one! Perhaps this sample gun had been mal-handled?
G'day, is it a spring loaded self indexing type?
@phishitaac I do not get a penny for these videos - ask the suppliers. AirgunTV is an info channel and I do it all in my spare time to deliver good, informative videos to anyone wanting to watch. When a company tries to improve its products for its buying public, they deserve a credit IMO. Like I said in the vid, I've been a Daystate user for many years, so can appreciate the advancements. I just wanted to pass my opinion to other Daystate users. What's wrong with that? Thanks for the sub BTW.
Still looking for it, irvysan!!!
@srspower It is one of the easier ones to load, I agree.
Thank you...
@jamesv2811 It's a great vid, James. I saw it after I'd shot this one (but before I uploaded it). I'm going to give your technique a go on some old mags - you did a grand job. ATB. Nige
@MrCauphy Thanks. :)
hi nige i got a daystate huntsman midas what do think of them?
Excellent Video. :)
I have one of the "easy loade mags" on my Regal but as it's a .177 cal my fat fingers still wont allow me to seat the pellets home , so to compensate this i made a disc of ply with 10 pins in a circle corosponding to the magazine and once all the pellets are loaded i just place the disc over the mag and seat them home all at once
Great tip Darran!
Don't follow the UA-cam video of the guy modifying the old mag by taking it to bits - all you need to do is take a Dremel with sanding attachment and sand inwards so that it looks like the new type - its a doodle, takes about 15 seconds, I have done four of my mags this way and they all work a treat.
@hkairgun Thank you HK! :)
damn i bought my huntsman a couple month earlier...still have old mag, i need to push pellets with some pointy thing like a pen =\
need to get myself a new one
Nice video Nigel! ;-)
Thanks Jimbo... :)
Cheers...
Hi brothers
Can someone help me my daystate magazine do not tarning l boat new on same problem l think there’s another problem on gun. ?? Who can help me
This latest mag is flawed, if you put the magnet in the right sided loading position it's strong enough to interfere with the ratchet and the spring that activates the ratchet. A perfectly reliable magazine becomes unreliable, move the magnet back and it's perfect again. Daystate obviously haven't tested it properly, which is a shame as it needs to go in from the other side with a large side wheel scope. I've tried it with two, same results, and having to drill out the magnet is stupid too.
(Never found it. But will keep checking the cowpats... and if it surfaces, I'll whizz it over to you) :D
£42 for old style mags and ebay have the new versions
which cost £46 well worth the lttle add on i supose it it makes loading 177 and 22 pellets a breeze
I have a Daystate magazine that needs to be reassembled for $60. ,22 cal.
How do ya remove the magnet ? Thanks
ShooterVermin 1.5mm hole in the back, push it out. I used a marker to mark the face so I got the polarity of the magnet right. Use a 1.5 mm Allen key to push it out.
nice vid well done airgun tv =]
Put the old one on eBay lol like I did with all my old ones and that paid for the most part of my new ones,they do well on eBay lol.
Lol this guy made it on youtube first Nigel 'jamesv2811'

you coud sell them old ones for a fiver ahahhahhhahahahahahha
Hi guys I made a video on virtually the same modification that I did to mine a while ago, check out the video it will save you buying a new one :)
I'll have your old magazine(s) if you don't want them anymore- at ~£40 a pop I wont be upgrading anytime soon myself ( never had any issues loading my original versions with the stop pin, but the new design is quite clever all the same ).
