I would totally prefer smaller or lower cars if the condition of Indian roads filled with Potholes and big speedbreakers makes it unviable. 165 mm is also oess. You need 190mm to make sure you can drive your car without scraping the bottom. And i live in a Tier 1.5 city, cant imagine what people in smaller cities must be facing. Also companies like Mahindra, Tata and now other carmakers are exclusively tocusing on giving more & better choices for SUVs only.
Why every car reviewers think all car buyers in India are chuthiyas and have no knowledge why they are buying something by spending lakhs of rupees. I own hatchback, and recently drove verna from my experience i can tell you driving sedans in country side with low ground clearance and less visibility of roads is a tidious task compared to my hatchback with little better visibility of roads. High ground clearance hatchback or so called suv will give you even better visibility to ride in broken roads.

Virtus has a ground clearance of 179mm and Seltos 190. I don't think that 11mm is going to help you much. SUVs make sense, pseudo SUVs don't.

People are buying cars they can't afford. There's a saying that buy a car only if you are financially stable enough to pay double its amount. It's a depreciating asset and for most of the expensive cars you're not paying for extra features or power, you are just paying extra taxes!

Indian Roads will surprise you with the kind of potholes that it becomes life threatening to drive sedan at 110 on those we don't have so expressway as you might think... Gurgaon gets flooded with rain in 5 min ... you can guess the condition of whole India
And regarding loan... it just means middle class families can now travel with comfort while travelling from a to b and without travelling in bus ... car is necessary for most of us now ... not everyone lives in places with ideal transportation where there are enough busses on roads for everyone
