- A short piece from local television 1987,breaking the news that the Birmingham Odeon would be closing to live music and returning to a cinema once again. It was a sad day for live music.
Isn't it about time we had it back ?
Saw Five Starr, Thompson twins, the gap band. My uncle Bob worked here so I saw lots of bands and heard LOTS of stories
I got into the Tech end of R&R back in 78, the Brummie Odeon was always a tour favorite.
I promised myself i would never visit the Odeon again, once they stopped live music and i never have.
I don't believe David Bowie did play the Odeon.
But I saw so many great concerts there.
Great clip not seen this before.got to see loads of rock bands in the 80s Thin Lizzy,Def Leppard,Judas Priest. Always a great sound unlike the NEC & NIA. Fond memories when I walk past it nowadays but never watched a film in there.
Bev Bevan was not in the Who, he was drummer with Move, the manager interviewed was Chris Mott, not Chris Dodds as stated. Go West was the last gig to play the Odeon.
Does anyone know the [re-Christened] Chris Mott? We worked together 'back in the day] at the Odeon, Lewisham.
How odd..it had many sold out performances..was well run and well known...again Rank does the dirty on everyone..however many businesses do this thinking they are correct ..then they leave the Company and that's that! Is it still a cinema now?Same at Top Rank Sheffield..now that was a great venue!!
Bit late to this but to answer your question it is still an Odeon cinema. It now operates as a 8 screen multiplex.
