    We had tickets to see this movie early in the theatre, and when they shot the crazy zealot woman, the theatre erupted in applause and cheering

    Man, this film looks waaaaaay better in Black and White. Not just the mood looks improved, but the Black and White actually aids the CGI. I have to see it like this now. But then . . . that ending does make me feel like pulling out my veins

    One thing everyone needs to take on board:
    In an apocalyptic survival situation, anyone who starts spouting religious BS is not to be trusted and must be removed from the equation immediately.

    I loved this short story so my husband took me to see it for date night about three weeks after our son was born. With the gut punch that was the ending, I was sitting in a pool of tears and breast milk by the time the lights came up. Great review, as always!

    This movie made me feel so betrayed. I had read the story and therefor was convinced the main characters would make it, although their fate is uncertain. The ending was like twice the shock for me.

    I remember the first time I watched this movie. It was with my grandma. No don't judge me, she picked the movie out herself. After the last scene, I remember I was just silent with my mouth open thinking what the heck did I just watch. Then my grandma shouts "Wasn't that great? I love this movie!" I guess I get my love for horror movies from her!

      I have worked at both a grocery store and at a department store, and they are lots of fun to get locked in at night. The grocery store had a deli area where we could use the appliances to prepare our meals. It was sort of fun to try out new foods regularly, but I never got used to eating supper at three in the morning. The department store had non-perishable foods, and a hardware department that would be handy. As for Oreos, we had two aisles of cookies, and even more if it was close to Christmas or Easter.

    It's very rare for American movies to not have a happy ending, so this is a breath of fresh air. Sometimes the stories you come across need to end badly, it helps you to deal with defeat in real life, it mobilises you and pushes you to solve problems. Most stories that have a happily ever after don't lead you to be a better person. But these, where shit gets wrecked, they do.

    • @HonkeyKong54
      @HonkeyKong54 2 роки тому +1

      Can't stand that. I started noticing that as a teen and it takes all tension out of certain films when you know certain people are completely safe. When I first watched the movie vanilla sky I was blown away and it gave me serious existential dread. I then found out that it wasn't actually an American film..I should have known better.

    • @JadeLeaf1980
      @JadeLeaf1980 3 роки тому +1

      @@Altaire86 the costumes were really good - because they were practical effects (like the movies from th 80s). Plus the soldier characters were all good and relatable to a degree too (except the one Liam Cunningham played, lol). You really liked these guys and understood who they were, and cared when they died lol. It’s probably one of the best werewolf movies I’ve seen short of Howling or American Werewolf. It harkened back to the more authentic 80s horrors I feel, where everything was practical and not digital and there was more quality over quantity of scares.

(However, we "Constant Readers" know which "based on a Stephen King Story"movie was the real horror....The Dark Tower) Great job Tom! Great costume...needs to be marketed :) (Just don't forget the peanut M&Ms as a side prop! We all need snacks...until the acid web spitting spiders come along)

    Sex isn't supposed to be terrifying? Also I still prefer the short story ending, which doesn't end with them happily heading off into the mist. They come across a giant tentacle across the road and it ends with the implication that they kill themselves. NO HAPPY ENDING OF THE MIST FADING.

    Well dang. You said everything I was commenting as I was typing it! Ummm...awkward.
    Oh! Hey, you should do "Gerald's Game." I'm not a HUGE King fan but I liked that book, and the movie was pretty true to it.
    And for the record, I'm not remotely hating on King, I do like the books of his I've read. But I just connect better and deeper with Dean Koontz's characters, plus, he has a lot more dogs in his books. And his descriptions of scenery and stuff are downright lyrical! Especially on audiobook! And since you, our esteemed Beekeeper, seem to enjoy reading, I will recommend "Watchers" by Koontz. It is my number one book, of all time. It's a must, especially for Golden Retriever fans...and the movie adaptation is one of the WORST ever, and is a complete "Travis-ty." (A joke people who read the book will get.) If anyone asks you to watch it, they are NOT your friend! "Run away! Run away!"
    See, I'm a major bookaholic and read about three Kindle books a week, while also reading an actual book during the same time. I have ADD and almost never reread books unless it's been about a decade between readings. I reread "Watchers" every other year or therabouts.
    Not that anyone cares, but for any Phans out there, I like to share my second favorite book. It's called "Phantom" by Susan Kay. It's the life story of Eric, the Phantom Of The Opera, from different viewpoints, starting with his mother. And it is SO well written! I reread that one every couple years too. If you're familar with the story, and especially if you've read the original, I think you'll love it. Cheers!

    15:00 you ARE corrected - it is just one of the many "unfortunately conclusions" that many people found, including "if you don´t have faith in the US army you deserve to die", the contempt look of the women who would shout to find their kids (even though she should be dead), and many other problems because Garabond created the ending BEFORE even having a movie. But besides writing excuses, it is rare to found people criticising the ending because you know, it will wake the fanboys.

    I loved this movie untill the very end. Then I was like, well that was stupid and wasted the whole movie. Now I just pretend in my head that they made it 2 more mins and were saved.

      oh, yes... and it is soooo annoying that there are always the defense of "why you don´t get the ending" even though it breaks all the themes of the movie.
      "and did you know that SKing loved the ending of the movie?"
