Hey all! I’m trying a new piggy bank intro clip in this video. I’ve been having so much fun with our character posts for no spend - so I figured I’d include our little guy here. He still needs a name. 😊
I'm with you on getting every drop of every product that I pay for - shampoo, toothpaste, dish soap, peanut butter, etc. I scrape out jars, cut open tubes - all the things. I paid for it, it's not going in the trash!
I do the same with the shampoo. This comes from growing up poor we needed to use every bit of what we had. I also cut open make-up containers when I’m at the very bottom. I thrift a lot for house hold items because I love vintage/old things. I juice my oranges and lemons from our tree and freeze. I would love to learn how to preserve. Maybe I was a pioneer in my previous life.
I was raised by my great grandmother, she was born in 1905. Her oldest daughter born in 1926 is still kicking. Much of what you're talking about I have been schooled in. I learned how to sew by hand, make a pound of burger and make a couple of dinners that lasted a couple of days each. Thank you so much for all the inspirations.
Resourcefulness is so underated. My husband built a highchair from a chest of drawers (it was very old well used) left in the house we bought by the previous owners. He has also built a chair from the wood of an old bed base of ours. Today I bought him a secondhand book on woodwork. I'm quite pleased about how we are using up everything at our disposal and not just running to the shops for all the shiny new stuff.
Good morning, Dana. My dog got me up very early, and it's nice to see a friendly face. I discovered yesterday that my big (500 gal) buried propane tank is down to 3% and spent a tough day trying to contact/negotiate a quick delivery. Wish me luck. I love the theme of this video (I'm plant-based too) and it pains me to waste any amount of food. I have hardwood floors (that I installed) all over my house, and when I realized my dishwasher was likely going to leak at some point (and buckle the floors) I watched UA-cam videos and uninstalled the unit, wrestled it out the door to the front porch and gave Habitat for Humanity a good dishwasher.
@@DebtFreeDana Not yet. It's 3:13 P.M. and no big tanker truck has come up the back driveway yet. I have a little Vesta heater/cookstove that runs on sterno if push comes to shove, and lots of pantry backup foods, so neither I nor Pete-the-Briard will go hungry, but I'm getting uneasy that it's this late in the day and no delivery yet. Keep your fingers crossed for us. TY!!
Hi Dana! My parents lived on farms during the depression, and many of their farming practices are similar to pioneer ways of living. They were extremely frugal; they used everything and were very opposed to wastefulness (I too use the very last amounts of shampoo and soap). They had very few items of clothing, and my grandmothers were amazing seamstresses. They would take apart dresses and suits and remake them into the latest style. The garden was very important, and the fall involved late nights of canning and making jams. It is very worthwhile to maintain these practices and also to foster a frugal mindset. Thanks for another great video!
My bestie, an old bachelor (old boyfriend-turned-friend) is a PhD and considered genius by those who don't know him as well as I do. During our dating years, I beat him every time at Scrabble. He later said he found it to be a lesson that not every bright person has an advanced degree. For him, that was huge. lol
Good Morning Dana, my grandmother lived during the Great Depression and she’s still alive at 94 and still saving everything. We could never throw anything away around her. Living with her I learned that milk could go wayyyy past the expiration date. She still had food she canned that date back way older than me and I’m almost 40. I guess that’s why she still here, 😂.
That’s awesome!!!! I knew a lady at my church who lived past 100. Such a gift. ❤️ Hoping to live as long. If not, hoping my grandkids can watch my videos here one day.
Hi Dana ...I wanted to ask you about the cat. I remember when you got him and you were saying he wasn't well. I'm so glad you still have him and he's doing ok. I hope your daughter is doing well too. Glad your posting more videos...I really enjoy them. Name for piggy........Saviour ....as it can be if you run out of money and need to break the bank, lol. Hugsssss
Hey Dana, you were talking about the shampoo thing I’m the same way. I will open up a new bottle and pour the rest of it in what I do with toothpaste I will squeeze it as much as I can and then I will cut the end off and scrape it till it’s completely empty Because of the cost of living nowadays you wanna use everything that you have and not waste? But thank you for sharing this. I’m getting caught up. I have one more video of yours to watch and you’re giving some really great tips when I go to the grocery store and I’m shopping. I look at the prices and I usually get the cheaper option or I’ll buy them bulk, which will save you money or anything that is on sale.

Are you taking suggestions for his name?

I’m sure those practices taught you a lot about appreciating what you have! ❤️ Thanks for sharing!!
I was very fortunate to be raised in part by Depression-era grandparents, and I tried to learn all I could from them.
I didn’t get the chance to know my grandparents well - you were very fortunate indeed. 😊

no shampoo bottles - switch to shampoo bar to avoid the plastic.
That is a great idea! 😊
I would like a video on your go to budget friendly plant base meal plan 🥦

Wexxo’s tokenomics make it a great long-term play.
