    I know the blooper feeling. It took a couple of hours to film a 15 minute Resolume Arena demo video for a college assessment. Thanks for your video. I’m all inspired.

    Why not a two 240 ohm resistors? This would make the total resistance 120 ohms. With 270 ohm resistors the resistance is now 135 ohm. The extra resistance is going to have more voltage drop across the resistor meaning, a lower voltage from the data signal. The lower voltage on the data signal could be with longer runs not work because now the anode and cathode do not have enough voltage to meet the minimum threshold voltage. This ultimately will make the system think you have more wire length for the DMX Cables.
    Just so you can understand my background. I have a Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering.

      Hi, I guess it depends on the tolerance. If it is 20% the real value of a 270 ohm resistor could be 216 ohms. ???
      By the way I only have 220 ohms resistors, but their real value are around 216, so if I sold two in parallel, I would have 108 ohm. Do you think it would be enough?

      Thank Jakob, I was on the verge of taking apart the LED light as it kept on randomly changing colour when I was operating the scanner lights. then I realised it just required a terminator to fix the signal. I hope all is well PS i'm enjoying your videos :-)

    A terminator that lights up! ...Brilliant! :) Thanks so much for doing this one. You're starting to amass as many LED fixtures, and toys as are in my studio. By the way, using ordinary XLR cables on too many runs will also lead to errant signals. So, for more than just s few fixtures, yo must use actual shielded DMX cables, as well as the terminators. I really enjoyed this video.

      ThomasGrillo > Hi Thomas I think there are 3 actual screened DMX cables there but until I acquire some more I will have to make do with a few microphone cables.

    Modular Moog!!! a real one! Mine is software!! - it's great but it's not like the real thing.
    Thanks for the info on the tester, I'm at the pulling out hair stage with my rig and this will be a useful thing to have.

    is it have to add the terminator(120ohm) for each DMX plug to make it works ?

      Dmx lights are daisy-chained (the output of the first light goes into the input of the second, and so on...) so the termitator only goes on the output of the last light.

    You have a fantastic place Markus. Proper furniture ;) As for the termination thing, it happens with quit ea lot of things not just DMX stuff, most serial comms need nulling. I have a few Tascam DA-38 and 88's they need terminating too or you get funky sync issues or they simply ignore each other on a whim, fun times.
    I believe there was a commercial version of what you made here (?) It was a long time ago though and employed a dual colour red/green led (yes I watched the whole vid lol). Loving the use of the spool as a stand for the XLR style plugs, totally going to use that idea, fab.
    Do you have a paypal.me? I can't do Patreon, money isn't a regular thing. I just wondered if there was a way I could send literally a few bob your way when I have a lil bit to spare.

      Hi Neffers, I was almost going to open the LED light as it kept on randomly changing colour when I was operating the scanner lights. then I realised it just required a terminator to fix the signal. Its fine if you only have a couple of lights but once you start adding more then the Terminator is a must. I could not believe the thousands of LEDs I have here and not one of them was a Bi-Colour LED.

    does the wattage matter? Also wasn't it 120 ohms ? WHy did you use 270 ohm for the 2nd design ? Thanks

    • @markusfuller
      @markusfuller  3 роки тому

      Hi that video was about 4 years ago and Im not sure why i used 270ohms. I think using that 2 led setup meant i wanted 120 per led and theres no 240ohm resistors so i used 270. maybe It was for some reason like that.

      well the shows are only 40s 50s 60s music and mainly for the local retirement homes, completely different to the electronic music I like to make myself.

    On the schematic, you use 270 ohms resistors for both termination and LED but you keep talking about "soldering the 120 ohm resistor". Unfortunately, I couldn’t make out which you actually used.

    • @markusfuller
      @markusfuller  4 роки тому +1

      Hello Moonbase59 I use the 120ohm for a basic termination of a dmx signal with no leds but i use 270 ohm if i am going to make the circuit with the leds.

    • @Moonbase59
      @Moonbase59 4 роки тому

      @@markusfuller I assumed so, since they’re in parallel. Thanks for the confirmation!
