The tip about the longer tabs was greatly appreciated. Thank you.
This was really helpful, thanks for the video!
this seems like it's easier than I've always thought it was, thanks for the tutorial
You can use a rtc editor to fix the clock after fully
Would you recommend using soldering paste as well as the wick in order to help remove the old solder? I’m sorry if I didn’t word this correctly. I’m not exactly new to things like this. I know it might not take much experience but, yeah 😅 again sorry if I worded it incorrectly 🤣🤣 also going to attempt to replace my Pokemon Crystal and emerald batteries. Thanks so much for posting this! I needed this video 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Solder wick is highly recommended. The paste is not entirely necessary. For the crystal repair video we used solderwick if you wanna check it out
@@joervintagepokemon6976 oh perfect! Checking it out now!
always reserve thread into plastic, feel it set Into the threads, then turn normally
Thank you
Do you mean reverse thread? Like turn the screw backwards?
I have all mine replaced when i bought them only issue i have is that my leaf green label has a tiny scuff on the bottum left so would like to replace that one
Leaf green does not have a battery just so you are aware.
@@joervintagepokemon6976 yeah no same with fire red i know about those ones i just need one with better label as there is a tiny scuff on the part that reads nintendo EUR versions i have im from uk
Have I understood correctly?
If I start a new save file WHILE the battery is dry, the time freezes right at the start.
If I then, let's say in a year, replace the battery. Then the time starts moving right after, as the clock froze at zero.
I believe you have that correct. This is why it is best to replace the battery THEN start a new game.
Can I use any type of solder ? I bought some but it’s not 60/40
Yes, as long as it's electrically conductive, which most types of solders are.
This helped a lot but I have a question, when I did mine it didn’t seem to work and I used a new battery, when I pulled it out again and tested the battery it only had 0.2, did I mess up some how or is it a crappy battery? Any info would be awesome!! Thank you
If the battery did not measure the appropriate voltage then it’s most likely a bad battery.
@@joervintagepokemon6976 thank you, I tested all the others in the pack and they were good but this one wasn’t haha so chalk it up to bad luck I guess haha thank you very much! And thanks for making your videos they help out a lot!
I’ve replaced my Pokémon Ruby battery twice. Both batteries are good and I’m still getting the message. The second time the battery was replaced professionally. And still getting the dry battery message. Has this ever happened to you before?
Unfortunately I have not had this issue
I'm dealing with the exact same thing! I know this is on there well but even starting a new file won't get rid of the dry battery message...
The pins that the battery solders to on the board might have gone bad or corroded on your cartridge.
@@plasmazmb1146 dose that mean it’s pretty much a no go? Or can you clean them up?
Do you know what would happen if I save my game data as a save state before the battery dies, and then reload that state after swapping the battery? With my gen 1 cartridges I created save states using an analogue pocket before swapping the batteries, then by reloading the states it put my save files back on the cartridges. Would this method work on gen 3 to keep all the time based events working?
I have no idea but that’s a good question!
@@joervintagepokemon6976 It seems that using save states on cartridges with a real time clock desyncs it. I actually haven't tried gens 2 or 3 yet on the analogue pocket, but from what I read there are ways to reset the clock in your cartridge after swapping batteries. You can do this in gen 3 with tools called rtcread-ds or PkHeX and a GBA or DS flash cart.
Hello, I am interested in replacing the battery in my Pokemon Emerald cartridge, but I do not have experience with soldering irons and am not very comfortable taking apart the cartridge myself. Is my only option to do this alone, or is there a way to pay someone else to do this? (Without knowing any specialized hobbyists beforehand.)
Many local game stores provide this service, but you can also find them online. I can not say where exactly, but know with some searching you can find them.
Don't know if you still need this but perhaps you can go to a mobile phone repair shop, they often have experience dealing with boards, soldering and electronics in general obviously.
Question, my ruby is an authentic copy but I get two messages. One saying it’s dry and also that I can no longer save. Will putting a new battery allow me to be able to save again?
My game won’t hold a save file. It’s deletes the save file every time.
The game should always be able to save still even if the battery has run dry. There may be an issue with your copy. Only way to know for sure is to replace the battery and check, but it doesn’t look good
@@joervintagepokemon6976 appreciate the help. Will be replacing the battery
@@joervintagepokemon6976 I also heard that the battery does power the memory board as well so a simple battery change can fix it
If your game doesn't save, it's either NOT authentic, or broken.
Ruby , Sapphire and Emerald use FRAM, which doesn't need power to save data for years.
I am too scared to use the tool what best way to be less scared?
You can practice on less expensive games such as any gameboy game or you can use a repair service supplied by a local game store. Some repair services let you send to them by mail and they send your game back with a new battery.
So the save file will not be erased when i do this? 😅
That is exactly what was said, so yes! The time based events will NOT begin to work until the game is reset however.
What temp were yall using?
Our master mechanic says “It depends on the solder you use, but start with 700 degrees F and move up from there.”
