  • The holiday Buggy is a fun one to drive but the hopping gets to be a little much. I got some oil filled shocks to smooth it out and I also needed to get rid of the temporary "fix" when I added the 540 motor. I did fix it and in the process may have added a little more speed to it as well!

      Yes! It turns it into a completely different animal! It was cute and fun before before but after it was really a ton of fun and complete ripper! It now has a Bob Ross driver head in there and that was the icing on the cake!

      It is a nice lazy fun driver out of the box but toss on some oil filled shocks and a spicier motor and it turns into on heck of a racer! They are a pretty good bargain and only takes the shocks and motor to make it really a ripper!

      Completely worth it! The shocks are a night and day difference in being able to drive it well. • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  2 роки тому +1

      It is fun out of the box but the 540 motor make it more fun! That also increases the bouncing so the shocks are a really great upgrade and a Sport Tuned motor would be good enough but the GT Tuned really made it a blast to drive. It also does not stick out as much so you don't see the big silver can hanging out of the transmission which I like too. That was a happy accident but I am glad it worked out this way as it is a lot of fun now! Thanks for stopping by and checking in!!

    Hi Addam nice HB ;) I live the DT02 buggy’s my fav Tamiya buggy, I’ve raced these in an all make series and against better machinery and for what they are you can get them to go very well. Another essential upgrade is to brace the front shock tower with a piece of carbon or alloy if need be. The front tower bulkhead is the 02s big weak spot. The gearbox is pretty much indestructible on these buggy’s and it will happy take up to 10.5 brushless motor but not much more as it starts to over power the chassis. If you go back through my video archive I’ve done a few videos on the DT02 chassis and what you can do to them. Take care ;)

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks and thanks for the tip for the front end, I will take a look and see what I can find to brace that up. I am really happy with it now. I was going to pretty much be a shelf queen but after the shocks and motor upgrade I will be driving it much more often now!!! I just wasn't happy with the bouncing about prior but now that it is smooth and can actually put the power down down it is a great runner!

      It is a really easy build and it seems to handle really well with the oil filled shocks on there. Previously it was bouncapolooza and was not as much fun. It makes you laugh for a while but it gets old as it bucks out sideways and causes problems and all I began to hear instead of wee..wee..wee..weee..we from bouncing it was ouch...ouch...ouch...ouch from the driveline! I think I got the shock set for $25-30 so well worth the price for the improvement of the handling! Thanks as always for stopping by and checking in!!!

      Thanks, it is a ton more fun now. The shocks made a huge difference and allowed that power to get to the ground. Otherwise it is way too hoppy/bouncy to be running a fast motor. • @UncleBobsRC
    @UncleBobsRC 2 роки тому +1

    Agree Addam, sometimes too much power hurts (as I say, more speed, the more parts break). However, your combo seems to fit very well, as you said. I also agree that the Tamiya standard yellow shock oil is "heavy" (400 CST), that's somewhere around 33wt oil. I've yet to build my Holiday Buggy but I think box stock is fine with me. Awesome video man, great run!!!!!
    BTW, I know you like the Losi Mini-T, or at least had one or two, have I got something to show you!!!

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  2 роки тому +1

      I built a lot of them with the stock oil but recently started with the thinner oils and they work so much better. Steve from @Shen RC convinced me to try them. For the flat top shock pistons I will use the 10wt and ones with holes in the pistons I will use 15wt or 20wt depending on the hole size. I build one and see how it feels and can adjust before building the rest. You can know out the holiday buggy in two nights. Start with painting the roof, the driver, and the jerry cans. While they are drying you can build the chassis and then work on the stickers. I strongly recommend not doing the fender stickers dry, please for you sanity use soapy water or Windex one those! You will not find them fun trying to put them on without help and being able to slide them around!
      I am very interested to see what you have coming up! I was driving my Mini-B around the other day in the basement since it was raining/snowing and I was not going out in that mess to play with anything! Looking forward to seeing what goodies you got!!

    • @AddamsPlayground

      It works as a temp fix but would not run it too long with the motor spaced out. Too much crude into the gear box and there will be some movement affecting the gear mesh. But in a pinch to get it running it worked well for me!! The Tamiya motors and their short motor shafts!!!

    Nice one! I am curious as to what you used to mount the 540 can? Thanks

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  2 роки тому +1

      It is an option to use the 540 in the kit. You just need the Tamiya 18 tooth pinion gear. I used a different brand and I was forced to use the GT Tuned motor due to the shaft on the other not being long enough. If you get the Tamiya pinion you can use the other motors like the stock style silver can, torque tuned or sport tuned. I had cheated prior with having to space the other motor out with a few old shock pistons as a shim! I wouldn't recommend it for a long term mounting solutions it will allow for dust and dirt to get into the trans and could allow for flexing when bouncing around and could increase gear wear from mesh changes.

      For the Tamiya pinion it is either 54628 for the 17 tooth or 54629 for the 29 tooth one. For a Robinson or other brand steel pinion you will need a 32 pitch or mod 08 (they are interchangeable) in either a 17 or 19 tooth. I am pretty sure that one has the longer motor shaft, the stock, sport and torque tuned motors all have shorter shafts preventing me from running the longer steel pinions on those.

      Hi Jim, Those were made with brute force and trial and error! I had made them years ago when working in a cabinet shop and we had scraps of aluminum plate left over from a project. The rear guard on the Stampede was the hardest one but I took a strip and made it fit the mounting holes first and then cut and trimmed it to fit nicely and then started to bend it around the transmission and motor plate. I used an old piece of steel pipe to bend it around and beat it into the shape it needed to be. Lots of trimming, filing and fitting! there was some CAD work done (Cardboard Assisted Design!!) but mostly just beating, banging and sanding it into submission!!!
