I put bearings in all the cog wheels of my traxx. You can get enough to do all 4 sets off a amazon for like 15 bucks. Huge difference over the brass bushings. That in combination of some corrosion X spray or fluid film, and my hobbywing axe 550 motor esc setup, it flies and never clogs on me
Excellent demonstration of wheels versus tracks. I always feel that tracks are more vulnerable to getting debris stuck in the tracks but they are clearly perfect for snow. It'd also be interesting to see the comparison on sand.
I agree the tracks are nice on soft snow, mud and sand might be different

I wish an rc manufacturer would either make a set of traxs proper size for making these things float on the snow like a snowmobile or make a whole rc vehicle it self for playing in the snow. It looks like if the tracks were just a hair wider they would work 100 times better. Either way these tracks looks like they still work better then tires. Makes me want a set
Integy makes some for the Erevo, Summit, and Revo, not sure how they’d work on a crawler tho
Edit: they actually make a few different tracks, for some other Traxxas vehicles, and HPI vehicles
They've had RC snowcats for at least 25 years now. There has been a couple RC snowmobiles over the years as well.

Too bad you couldn’t make a 3D printed part to double the tracks. 8 tracks would be expensive but difference between them would be worth seeing.

Our club, we did that test last year and we all switch to Traxx if snow ground like video and slower is better. Overall we all enjoy those hours to be outside. Nights and days, between tires and Traxx. Thx posting enjoy RCing. Cheers

a lot of ppl complain that Traxxas dominates the hobby shops but thats only possible because of their popularity with consumers. that popularity exists for a reason. theyre one of the best RC makers in the business. thus far theyve managed their company correctly.

What I would do is put a smaller lipo like a 2000mah in the front of the trx4 to reduce weight and make it stay up better on the snow
I think if you have a soft enough tire and seal it while pressing a bit on it. You’ll simulate low psi
I installed a motor in my friends wraith with 2.2 tires. Man that thing floats on the fluffy snow its so light

The axial needed some paddle tiers. I wonder how they would compare then? I just got some Traxx but last guy left em dirty so doing a full tear down and clean before I try them out myself. Can’t wait!
Excellent video,brother. I've been having a blast with my Traxx this winter too. I wish Traxxas or somebody would do a slight upgrade to the drive sprocket and open the tracks more to let the snow clear out of them better, they clog up way too easy even if acclimated properly . Still tons of fun though.
Let your rig sit outside for 10 to 15 minutes to acclimate and see what a difference it makes on the clogging.

Definitely no comparison! I love the Traxx I put on my trx4 raptor! They are a blast in the snow but you definitely have to let them acclimate to the temp. They only work for MILD crawling but best in mud snow and sand! Mine loks a little different than the usual trx4, you should take a look.

Traxxas is my go to. Have the sport with about 400 in upgrades, and the old bronco with about 600 in upgrades.
Trax are great when the perfect conditions arise, otherwise, they are a catastrophe

Great video work , I just couldn't talk my self into the axial scx 6 , I did get the rear steer Capra , doing some mods to that , I'm putting together a vekta 5 with the soon to be released 35cc engine by Taylor rc , we really got to get together with boats or something , I've got a over powered raminator you could bash around , everybody loves driving that thing , really great video thanx for sharing

The tracks are great for sand snow, mud and general trailing.. but suck on the rocks...

I want tracks for mine but wish they were as easy to install as fast as u would a tire I’ve seen videos on how to install them I wish u could pop them on and off in seconds

The scx10 does have portals and it was to see how tires work vs tracks 😀
I’ve always wondered how those traxx hold up over long periods 🧐 if anyone has some let me know how yours are and what conditions you run in. I mean people use them for mud and snow 99% of the time, I’d imagine the treads would have to endure a lot of skipping after they get dirty
I don't know about compound durability but I hear they burn through batteries like 3x faster.
@@patricklavoie8719 yea I saw a guy running a 2s 5000mah got 30 mins of runtime in snow. still respectable runtimes but he was also running in high gear through deep snow most of the time so I’m sure it could be a little longer
@@patricklavoie8719 I need to look into my XL-5 settings, because I'll only be able to run for maybe 20 mins before it goes into low-voltage mode, or something. It'll all of a sudden slow down to a snail's pace, and when I check my battery voltage, it'll be around 3.8v per cell, if not a little higher, which is slightly above storage level.

Wow! Tracks in the snow for sure. I was thinking of doing something with tracks. I want to get another crawler. Without tracks. Which do you prefer, the Trx or the Axial ? I am leaning towards the Axial,but have not tried either.
Both trucks are awesome but I like the Trx just because you can open/lock the diff and switch low/high speed. The bronco also has Portal axles so it has a little more ground clearance.

I feel like the difference has more to do with the portal axles, because you can see all the snow bunching up on the axle of the axial.
And since the trx4 has already driven there, it means that its own axles cleared that part of the snow.
The axial also has the portal axles, the trx has the advantage on sitting higher with the traxx on and having traxx 😀

Of course the tires would fail.. it would have made more sense to compare it, with portal axles. As the tracks are essentially portal axles.. Just some common sense....
