cbsctomh that’s funny. We did exactly the opposite for the same reason. After 9 months we had no ice. Whirlpool replaced the ice maker twice under warranty in two years. The third time the ice maker failed we gave up. We replaced the refrigerator with a Samsung four door in December 2017.
We also gave up on our Samsung and got a whirlpool 3 years ago. The only real fix for a Samsung fridge is to replace it ua-cam.com/video/JrloHZis2NM/v-deo.html
It works! Did exactly what the video said to do, all of it, including sealing the back of the fridge and cleaned/replaced the drain tubes (they were really dirty and not functional; the bottom receptacle for each was also clogged and I blew that out with some canned air), and also cleaned the built up dust from the condenser, and sealed the inside with silicone as directed; and BAM! I have ice this morning and fully functional! Will report the news on if this is a permanent fix in a few weeks. Note: I read-up on the silicone and the DOW 3140 RTV is important to use because it cures best with air and high humidity - like in a fridge - so would only use this type of silicone. So far so good. we'll see.
Don't forget to try raising the front of the fridge slightly so that it is higher than the back. This has stopped the freeze-up problem for many people, and is much less costly and a lot less hassle than getting a replacement part.
What amazes me is our Whirlpool refrigerator is in the garage and still working after 30 years. The Samsung is a constant problem and started at the 2 year mark. In fact we bought all Samsung appliances and the only one that has worked flawlessly is the dishwasher. Whenever I go to Lowe's and I see a couple looking at appliances I make a point to say, "Do yourselves a favor don't buy Samsung!"
I'll never buy a POS Samsung appliance again, this refrigerator has given me nothing but problems and it all started as soon as the warranty period was over, fuck Samsung.
Thank you so much for this video. I followed it to a T, and everything went exactly as the video (with the exception of the wiring which required disconnecting two separate connectors). Everything went smoothly and although it's only run 16 or so hours, no frost so far. Keeping my fingers crossed. It did take me over 6 hours to do but this included emptying the refrigerator section, and I had a particularly tough piece of ice to remove once the freezer tray was removed. This ice was still present after running 5 forced defrost cycles. It had formed in a slot located under the freon tube so I melted it by running hot water over the butt of a knife and holding it to the ice. This was to avoid any contact with the freon tube. As a note, I left everything in my freezer section and avoided opening the drawers. The temperature never fell below freezing.
@@4tydel I ordered the silicone from Amazon. Search for RTV food grade silicone sealant. I didn't order the tubing because mine seemed fine. Also, I followed the video here ua-cam.com/video/GWJ5CRb3aS8/v-deo.html for the forced defrost mode.
Great video! Very helpful! We stored our Samsung in a storage building for 2 years while we lived in an apartment and built our new house. Now that we're in our new home and using our Samsung fridge we're having the ice maker freeze up about every 2 or 3 months or so, and I have to defrost it and scrape out all the ice/frost. Now I know what is going on thanks to your video, and I can fix it! I don't want to replace the fridge. It was super expensive and we really like it. Thanks again!!
I had the same problem - I replaced the icemaker but still happening. I called Samsung and they sent out a repairman to replace the icemaker parts and swap a board out of the back of the refrigerator - FREE (call Samsung support) because a lot of people are having this problem.- he just left, so if this doesn't work I'll update this post...
@@justinbrooks6447 Hi Justin, and I know this isn't your model, but it might guide you closer to unlocking the troubleshooting features of your unit. I did this last night, with success. ua-cam.com/video/GWJ5CRb3aS8/v-deo.html
I followed the directions on sealing up the leaks using silicone inside of the icebox and on the back of the fridge, and wow, it actually solved my problem. A week later and still no ice buildup. Before, it would have been totally jammed up by now.
My problem was the water tube sticking too far forward. It wasn't even close to being in the right position. Thank you very much for the video it helped greatly
Very informative and helpful video! I’ve been having this issue for over a year now, to the point I had to stop the ice maker function since it was building up too much ice and making the unit inoperable. I watched this video about a week ago, and started to work right away on it, in my case I didn’t have the small silicone tube, but I had a 10.1 FL OZ Clear GE all purpose 100% silicone waterproof Freeze and sun proof one, I poured some of it into a small zip bag and made a small cut in one of the corners and then I started to squeeze it, it worked perfect cause I was able to reach all the spaces where I saw light coming trough. I also checked the water hose in the back, and yes, the gray one was pushed in too far. (In the position I was working which was from the side of the fridge, I was pulling the hose really hard and I couldn’t move to the line, so I decided to get behind the fridge and then it was really easy to pull it back where the line was supposed to be. Then I applied silicone all over as well). Another issue I found on mine was the small foam that goes on the ice maker, on top of the small fan that forms almost a square on top of the unit, it was missing a piece. So I removed it all with, cleaned all the residues and then I cut a 3M moulding double tape that I bought a couple years ago for my car trims, and it worked perfect to replace the broken foam. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with this amazing video, now I can enjoy ice all year round and I didn’t have to spent a penny on a costly service call!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I'm starting to think those hoses are the issues on mine.. Recently had a ton of condensation on the rear right below those tubes.. It flooded my kitchen, after i cleaned up the water i just put it in defrost since it froze over again. Might need to try this out, cause that is the same silicone i have laying around lol
Another way to check for the gap he talks about at approx 5 minutes in is to use a flashlight to shine light under the ice maker. Look for the light bleeding through in the corners. It will be very obvious. Sealing up the are is the best way to gain life from this troublesome unit! Also, use a steamer to defrost. I happen to have a bissell that I bought specifically for this purpose. That will defrost it quickly without damaging the plastic.
I don't own a steamer but an alternative approach I do is take a terrycloth bath towel, soak it in water, ring it out enough so its thoroughly wet but not dripping. Then I squish it into a ball and microwave it for a few minutes (while repositioning towel midway to get inner hot too). Then I place the steaming hot towel inside the icemaker. Let it sit for 6-8 minutes. While sitting, I prep another towel to be ready to swap out. The steamed towel will melt the ice as well as soak up most of the melted water at the same time.
Thank You, I was able to remove the ice maker and defrost the inside. There was an air channel for the fan that was totally blocked with ice and doesn't get defrosted when you first perform the ice removal. This I think has been causing most of my problems. This channel allows the fan to circulate the air into the ice maker. Also sealed all the sides and bottom with silicon. I could see water dripping down the side.
Make sure to clean out the drain tubes that the check valves attach to they can get nasty and clog up your new or cleaned check valve a paper towel rolled up or bottle brush works well doing the check valves either cleaning them or replacing them is key to preventing the ice maker from getting damaged with overflow water that turns to ice damaging expensive parts. yes all the other step in this video are important as well.
I followed your instructions and got rid of all the ice. My problem was that when the defrosted water was drained, it didn't drain properly and once the drain was iced over, the water went all over the floor of the ice maker. I suspect that I didn't have the know-how what to look for and how to take it apart. When I defrosted all the ice and put it back together, the control panel was locked. After searching the internet I finally found the sequence, unplug the refer and wait 3 - 5 minutes Plug it back in and wait again while it reboots. Press and hold the child lock button for 3 seconds and poof!, it worked. Thanks for the visual help.
Hello How many time a year or a month should I be doing the tube maintenance on samsung fridge? I was thinking about one but so many horror stories, and this video seems to be actually quite easy for maintenance.
You missed the installation of the SAMSUNG DA82-02367A part. Supposedly this a new part kit to prevent the freeze up problem. The part was shown with all the new parts but you never showed the installation. At around 6:34 the parts appear in the video without you having shown the installation.
I tried it before, and by the way you can seal from outside, you don't need to seal from inside, it only delayed the build up. air gets in no matter what every time ice is dispensed, problem is back
I have a samsung very much like yours here, mine defrosts and temperature goes up and to about 10 c in cabinet and - minus 10 in freezer; the defrosting is intermittent through out the day it may start up again for about 12 hours or so and then begin defrosting again I can not trust to put raw meats in fridge; I explained problem with one old technician and he would not even come out to see it as he says Sam Sung are nothing but too much of a problem to fix...another guy was with us for one and a half hours and could not find the problem, it happened that the fridge had begun working..took out the back plate covering the computer board and the little red light was on which indicated the fridge was in working OK mode; He told me to keep in touch next time it happens again...I did so I described what was happening The fan near the motor would stop. it would. go on and off...I had pulled out the plug from wall for an hour or so to reset the computer. Noting happened when I switched it on..I then see the red light was not on. The technician on the phone said he may now the problem..something in the computer was not working right...I asked how much would it cost to repair if that was the problem. He said about five hundred dollars and this was on top of the one hundred and seventy five dollars I had already given him...there is no guarantee that was the problem or that I would get at least another four years at least from the fridge..It is already just eight years old...so I will be chucking it on the council clean up when time comes around,,
I just checked my water tube with a mirror and it wasn't visible at all. I pushed it in some so I could see it as the Samsung repair pdf I had said it should be partly visible. Is this true in your experience or could I have made it worse? Also mine already had the y-clips. Hopefully the silicone is enough to help as it freezes over really bad every 4 weeks
I’ve had my Samsung refrigerator for over three years, and knock on wood, not one problem with freezing. 🥶 My former GE fridge would have the water line freeze daily. 🙄
I called Samsung about the Ice maker problem that everyone is having including me. They took my information. And in two days the parts arrived. And then they called and set up an appointment to have their tech come out. He replaced everything with updated parts. After a half hour he was done and the following day I had ice. Give them a call.
@@lukey4, Nothing. They know they sold equipment that was faulty. Now they have to fix it for free. Tell them it just quit making ice and the bucket will not come out.

David Good Try adjusting your water pressure to your fridge. Our water pressure is crazy high. When we filled a tall glass with water it quit often splashed outside of the glass if you didn't hold the glass right up to the top. I turned the shutoff valve back until the water pressure going into the glass was good but not crazy. I'm hoping that this will help the splashing into the ice maker from the top ice maker fill port.
not a gfci NEC only requires gfci for outlets that service the kitchen counter top. only time i have seen gfci for fridge outlet is when home owners are doing shit.
can anyone conform this worked for about a year? sometimes just defrosting will work for 3 to 6 months. So all these steps can be useless. Also other manufacturers, when you open freezer door, you also expose the ice maker, and air get in easily, so frosting from external air isn't the problem. I think Samsung didn't automate a defrost cycle. There is a manual defrost available and solves the problem, automating the defrost and directing the heat to the problem area would solve the issue. I don't know why Samsung didn't buy the ice maker from a company that has been doing this for years instead of reinventing the wheel!!
Exactly, in my opinion sealing is a waste of time for the very reasons you state. Apparently they do have an updated motherboard to program more frequent defrosts. I use Forced Defrost (Fd) using buttons on front panel. Works quickly but alarm beeps for 20 minutes during defrost.
People, don't waste your time doing all this sealing. The frosting does happen due to air getting in, but how are you going to stop air from getting in when you dispense ice? everytime you get ice, air gets into the ice making chamber. The volume of air getting is at least the same volume of the ice you dispensed. No matter what you do the problem will persist. Solution: set a bi weekly alarm on your smartphone to chisel off ice buildup until you are ready to get rid of the refrigerator.
There is a For Ed Defrost (Fd) mode you can access through the front buttons. It works very quickly in about 20 minutes but you suffer through an annoying beeping alarm during this process. Next time I will go for a walk during the defrost which is only for ice maker. I am calling HD tomorrow as we have Extended 4 year Service Plan.
FD forced defrost works everytime for me. Hold the light and freezer button 12 seconds then with the light button select FD it will beep for 20 minutes while it defrost
Where are youbusimg the silicone? Why silicone? Can use cocking? How long to dry silicone or alternative? You dont talk about the unit being leveled which is soooo important for proper unit FUNCTION.
Silicone expands and contracts with varied temps. Most caulking you find in hardware stores these days are made of acrylic or latex which may crack or not expand as much. Silicone is the best for this purpose. And get white silicone so later when you shine a light to check for leaks, you wont be fooled by clear silicone. Im not sure if it really matters if its samsung, whirlpool or general silicone. Just make sure its 100% silicone.
Genuine question: he says to make sure it is completely defrosted before removing parts, but also says not to heat the area or else it'll damage it. How do I defrost it then?
You can run the defrost cycle on your refrigerator. You can reference your manual to find the defrost cycle. Mine is done by holding the "Freezer" and "Lighting" button for 10 seconds. You have to do it just right or it won't recognize you pressing it. Then press "Lighting" until you get to the "Fd" cycle.
Thought the same thing. For appearances probably, but you can't really see underneath anyway. If you're just blocking moisture/airflow clear packing tape along bottom seam might work also I would think. Why wouldn't they just put foam seal tape along that edge when manufacturing?
This is not a permanent fix. I have had all of this done to my fridge. The ice maker and the fan replaced twice, the drain tubes replaced, there was a plastic clip inside the ice maker that was replaced twice and the gaps were caulked. The longest this fix lasted was a year. The last time it was done was about 10 months ago when it was still under warranty. Then 5 year extended warranty has expired now and the ice make is now freezing up again. I wish I had the money to replace it.
the cause for freezing up is water in the wrong place. If the water inlet hose is misaligned it sprays a mist that freezes. Humid air infiltrating condenses and freezes. The ice blocks the drain and eventually the fan, Drain tubes clog with ice/mineral deposits from hard water/debris/mold/gunk…. All of the service bulletins (and the new ice maker service kit) are about water management
@@TomMcIntyrecrna thank you. I ran a defrost cycle and used a hair dryer to meld all the frozen deposits. The drains that run down the back of the refrigerator compartment we're completely blocked with ice. I also messed with Temps in the freezer. I had the temp to low. I haven't had a problem since.
We have a Samsung fridge with a completly different looking ice maker, but it's a nightmare where the ice freezing up. I guess this is a feature of Samsung fridges.

Samsung ice makers are total junk and their refrigerators also fit in this category. The other problem with Samsung when you call to get technical support you can not get any results. The problems seem to start shortly after the warranty expires which is only one year. When you pay $2,500.00 for a refrigerator you do not expect this.
Any refrigerator that has an ice maker in the refrigerator section like this all have problems no matter what brand the stupidest thing the manufacturers could have ever thought of
About 6 weeks ago we had a technician out. The problem he found was the ice maker was not installed correctly at the factory. Cost me $100 to find that out but he adjusted the water feed and we have not frozen up since.
@@alneg6234 Worked for about 2 months then would not stop making ice and was jamming. Had to turn the ice maker off and on. Now it does not make ice at all unless you push the reset. It will drop ice and shut itself off again. We are now using ice trays in the freezer. They want $700 for a new updated ice maker and it is not worth it. I would rather put the money towards a different brand. I will not buy any Samsung products again and I have warned several people looking for refrigerators not to buy a Samsung.
My ice maker froze up and I resolved it with the video. What I hate more is the stainless exterior. It looks smeary and cloudy ALL THE TIME. I clean it and shine it. It’s terrible all the time. Anybody have that problem?
Nothing but trouble with samsung ice maker. The ice maker has been replaced twice. Tech from Samsung came to our house and took video for company. It still freezers up about every 40 days. Even with the new ice maker it froze up in 40 days. Tired of fooling with this problem. Husband has called company many times to no avail. They did offer to buy it back for far less than we paid.
Piece of junk. I have one. Would never buy another Samsung product in the future. Why they put out a defective item and will not fix or replace it as a warranty does not matter I am not sure. But learn my lesson Samsung is blacklisted in our house
Totally agree with you. Our experience with this Samsung unit has been so frustrating. Will never give them another dime. The extent of complaints with this problem on UA-cam shows it is not just an ordinary defect.
I remember when we got the new Samsung and I was unloading my old refrigerator the new Samsung could only hold about a third of what my old refrigerator could hold and it was so much larger than my old refrigerator just buy the old refrigerator with the freezer on top and don’t waste your money and time with the stupid Samsung with the icemaker that keeps freezing

perfect step by step directions.... thank you..
One of the best videos in terms of video and content. This guy really has a knack for DIY videos.
Can you not just silicone from the outside rather than on the inside?
water may get trapped between the icebox and wall of the fridge. better to do on the top
Seriously helpful thanks!
This fixed my ice maker problems! Thank you ever so much!
It has been two weeks since I did the fixes in the video, and it is still working!
@@wendellbest2053 is it still working?

I’ve had my Samsung refrigerator for over three years, and knock on wood, not one problem with freezing. 🥶 My former GE fridge would have the water line freeze daily. 🙄
THANKS I Used the light tot check the seal in the ice maker and that's it once again thanks
I did a Sansung fridge that I had to replace a mullen htr plate at the evap in fridge. Water leak, I fixed it I was happy.
it worked for me, thanks
Did the unit ice over again?
I called Samsung about the Ice maker problem that everyone is having including me.
They took my information. And in two days the parts arrived. And then they called and set up an appointment to have their tech come out. He replaced everything with updated parts. After a half hour he was done and the following day I had ice.
Give them a call.
how much did you have to pay?
@@lukey4, Nothing. They know they sold equipment that was faulty. Now they have to fix it for free. Tell them it just quit making ice and the bucket will not come out.

Very good and thorough video
My ice maker has frosted up from day one.. At one point I took it all apart and reinstalled the parts. It worked for awhile but its back to it's old self..
Really great video. Very helpful!
Had Samsung refrigerator for almost 5 years with extended Lowes warranty running out same problems persist. Has both defroster fans freezing over which have been replaced several times along with temp gauges, back cover with fan, new ice box, icemaker, Has been diagnosed by repair person to need all the parts again,3rd time in less than 3 months, Lowes refuses to replace refrigerator for lemon law or customer satisfaction, have been waiting for parts and services for just over 30 days, never buying Samsung or Lowes warranty again
I know about the 2 defrost drain lines in the bottom back but what’s the third one for?
maybe it is a 4-door fridge?

Try adjusting your water pressure to your fridge.
Links are dead Where do I get this updated ice maker?
This is the new one for my 31cf 4 door Samsung. Part # is the same as the orignal ice maker except for the final letter (D instead of A)
not a gfci
NEC only requires gfci for outlets that service the kitchen counter top.
only time i have seen gfci for fridge outlet is when home owners are doing shit.
Excellent video
First video that I’ve seen where they seal up the water intake at the rear of the fridge I was wondering why no one does that.
can anyone conform this worked for about a year? sometimes just defrosting will work for 3 to 6 months.
Thank you buddy!!
Thx for the info.
great video brother. Thanks
Very informative video. I would like to ask where do you find the updated version of the ice maker. Thanks!!
These fixes for Samsung fridge is on going, make sure it's level!
I have water leaking from the dispenser in the door how do we fix that
People, don't waste your time doing all this sealing.
Where did you use the silicone? Your camera angel did not show where inside the ice compartment you siliconed....
Just make sure its 100% silicone.
actually it is probably better to have the front about ¼” higher on one of these as water flows downhill and the drains are in back
check the Samsung service bulletins (ASC20170602002 for one) to understand what the problem is and why the sealant helps.
Ecxelent video
Genuine question: he says to make sure it is completely defrosted before removing parts, but also says not to heat the area or else it'll damage it. How do I defrost it then?
You can run the defrost cycle on your refrigerator. You can reference your manual to find the defrost cycle. Mine is done by holding the "Freezer" and "Lighting" button for 10 seconds. You have to do it just right or it won't recognize you pressing it. Then press "Lighting" until you get to the "Fd" cycle.
Patience. Samsung says use a steamer - we have one and it does speeed things up
Couldn't you silicon from the outside of the ice maker all around instead of the inside? this way you don't need to pull out the ice maker?
Thought the same thing. For appearances probably, but you can't really see underneath anyway. If you're just blocking moisture/airflow clear packing tape along bottom seam might work also I would think. Why wouldn't they just put foam seal tape along that edge when manufacturing?
this is a greta video...only question....when you cleaned the coil, where did the dirt/dust go?
in the tray, and is better to collect that dirty/hairy water
got it....i did this after watching and it's worked ever since
definitely need to replace dispenser door
This is not a permanent fix. I have had all of this done to my fridge. The ice maker and the fan replaced twice, the drain tubes replaced, there was a plastic clip inside the ice maker that was replaced twice and the gaps were caulked. The longest this fix lasted was a year. The last time it was done was about 10 months ago when it was still under warranty. Then 5 year extended warranty has expired now and the ice make is now freezing up again. I wish I had the money to replace it.
You have been keeping the coils and drain tubes clean?
@@TomMcIntyrecrna I clean the coils every year and the drain tubes have never needed cleaning.
Thanks Mine froze up but there was no space inside I had a flashlight in there Do I still seal it ???
Need a ice maker kit
Can you silicone outside of the icemaker.
The ice maker is flawed. There is no seal around the icemaker. Fortunately, Samsung replaced mine, as it was under warranty.
But what is the cause for freezing up?
the cause for freezing up is water in the wrong place.
My challenge is not over freezing, yet. When I want ice, the augers does not move ice forward in fact the auger does not appear to be turning.
does the auger motor work?
Usually because the ice cubes have frosted themselves into one large chunk of ice which auger can’t break up.
If you are having problems with samsung ice maker call 1 800 samsung document the problem with the ice maker. They will replace it free of charge.I bought one in 2016 had ice maker replaced twice on extended warranty.Mid April 2022 it quit again called samsung and they replaced it free of charge.Repairman told me there was a class action lawsuit on these units.Saved me $531.00 by making a phone call.
Samsung ice makers are total junk and their refrigerators also fit in this category. The other problem with Samsung when you call to get technical support you can not get any results. The problems seem to start shortly after the warranty expires which is only one year. When you pay $2,500.00 for a refrigerator you do not expect this.
Like me, you got took! DO NOT BUY SAMSUNG APPLIANCES!
Any refrigerator that has an ice maker in the refrigerator section like this all have problems no matter what brand the stupidest thing the manufacturers could have ever thought of
About 6 weeks ago we had a technician out. The problem he found was the ice maker was not installed correctly at the factory. Cost me $100 to find that out but he adjusted the water feed and we have not frozen up since.
please update in 2 months
Pledge with microfiber cloth works wonders
Has this worked for anyone?
it only delayed the build up. air gets in when you dispense ice
Yeah that dont work!
@Lex Man non of the "repairs" work I get so many calls for this issue and I have not found 1 that works
@Lex Man oh yeah it all depends on the manufacturer date on what updates you use and all I have done have not worked!
I love these jobs I usually charge 600 bucks for the repair
Piece of junk. I have one. Would never buy another Samsung product in the future. Why they put out a defective item and will not fix or replace it as a warranty does not matter I am not sure. But learn my lesson Samsung is blacklisted in our house
Totally agree with you. Our experience with this Samsung unit has been so frustrating. Will never give them another dime. The extent of complaints with this problem on UA-cam shows it is not just an ordinary defect.
Samsung ice makers are the worst.
do you have a order by phone number I cannot get you links to work to order parts?
Why not just silicon around the outside of the box? Saves having to pull everything out
