At Oxford English Masters, we use Civilization 1 to teach our ESL students vocabulary concerning history, geography, science, technology, politics, economics and so much more! Rather than just learning (and probably forgetting) these words by rote, students actually USE these concepts to survive in a simulation of geopolitics over time! This massively increases concept and vocabulary retention, student engagement, and builds their problem-solving, forward-planning, organizational and risk management skills all at once - a truly 3D learning experience! We have designed an entire course around the game, including reading game guides, vocabulary building, class debates and article writing, and more. Learn more about how we use cutting edge learning strategies like gamification at www.oxford-english-masters.com!

Good video! I can tell you love this game a lot. Liked how you tied this into a history lesson as well. I learned so much from this game growing up. I have beaten the game on emperor and I personally find the best government in civ 1 to be despotism. Being aggressive with massive numbers of chariots in despotism, building little to no improvements to keep costs very low I have found to be a very effective way to win on King and Emperor, even though its not a particularly interesting strategy. It's also possible I am just bad at playing in a democracy, lol.

Let me teach you, the fact you got 0 from your trade was not because it was your city. It depends on the city output, the larger the trade route.
Also it is dynamic, so once the city grows it will increase the trade amount.
Distance does not play a role at all! Also the potential amount is halved when creating a trade route between your own cites.
One thing to note is that trade route amount, applies to both cities, not just the one you target. Only one will receive the bonus but the amount will increase if your starting city is higher in trade squares and it not determined by size.
    Lesson complete 😉
