- The 1969 BSA A65L 650 is one of the most iconic vintage British motorcycles ever made. This BSA A65 Lightning has been restored and runs excellent. Turn the ignition on, petcocks on, tickle the carbs, free the clutch, and give her a kick! She usually starts on the first kick.... but she's a little camera shy. This BSA Lightning 650 is my weekend rider. A real blast to ride. Never lets me down. One of the best-looking motorcycles ever made.
Brings back memories. My father drove to work on one of these for 15 years. It was a pretty bike.
At last! Correct use of tickler, no need to pump it up and down. Well done
That idle note... beautiful!
Thanks Justin!
I knew a guy had this exact model - '69 BSA Lightning ... he also had a '69 Norton Commando 750 - I bought the Norton from him in '76 (?) ... he wasn't about to part with the BSA. Beautiful bikes, both of them! :)
Now thats a well set up A65 tbh never heard one tick over so well balanced, great handling little bikes better frame than triumphs imho.
That has a perfect tick over. Nice work. That was my first bike in the late 90s. Still have it today. Restored it 2 times. Looks ok but nowhere near that. With the way the tire looks that's an original tire too.
The idle is perfect 👌
Sounds great 👍
Minimalist beauty !😎👍
These were fast and beautiful bikes back in 68. There were few bikes that could keep up ; thinking XLCH , Bonneville , Spitfire , Norton P 11 and of course the Suzuki 500.
Year of my birth, bike of choice.
100% Gonzo
Beautiful bikes that worked if you kept up a reasonable degree of maintenance on them. Always rewarded you if you did.
Nicely sorted
Beautiful looking bikes. Ancient engines. I always thought that an A65 with a Yamaha XS-650 engine would have been a perfect combination.
notyetsilenced A65 is the engine type. So, if you put a XS-650 in a BSA Lightning chassis, it will not be a A65 anymore.
For me, A65 engines look so great. A masterpiece of design (look wise, not for mechanic).
@@JRondeauYUL they are a great design and very simple to work on. It was part of the design because decoke were part of the service more or less
Sounds nice👍🏼
Thank you!
MY DAD BOUGHT THIS bike when i was a kid, delivered to the house by a freight company still in the crate, had to be Lightly assembled and was ready to roll. sheeez, 50 years ago.
I learned to ride a big bike on a 1963 Thunderbolt, what fun it was. My first BSA was a Bantam, don't remember the year. It was slow but you have start somewhere. I always favored the BSA over the Triumph.
0:33 Proper use of ''Trickler.''
It's never meant to be used as a ''Tickler'' pump. -DU69160
At last! Somebody who knows how to use it correctly
@@bonkeydollocks1879The owner of Big D Cycle, where I had my 1968 Triumph Trophy Sports fully restored, back in 2012 told me that many stolen Triumph's were found abandoned, due to the the thieves lack of knowledge on the matter.
@@bonkeydollocks1879 Yep, It is so!
My 68 Matchless had the dual Concentrics like this Lightning and proper use was to trickle both Amals , not just one.
Kyle , very cool. Those new amal carbs are great. I also have some on my A65L,. My kick start arm on my new- to- me 1970 bonneville is doing the same thing but it's the Pin. It seems folks just can't install them with the flat side towards the flat machined into the shaft.
Still sorting the bonnie. It came with water in the fuel and the guy hadn't changed the oil since 2011, but it just mostly sat in his garage after being rebuilt.
Thanks for sending me that new rotor last week. You folks turn around orders really fast.
Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.
Russ & Jeanette
I didn't know you had an A65L? What year is it? Thanks Russ for watching. I value your business. I hope you and your family have a great Christmas :)
Never let a British bike tickover straight from starting....
Fantastic ******
Woow!!! Fantastique. 🤩
my neighbor, who I grew up with, bought a new one, used to wake me up every morning, the sound of that perfectly tuned powerplant was too much,i had to buy me one, like a fool I let go of it for stinking money, one does not know, what one has, till common sense kicks in
Build one, you'll never sell it!
My dad sold my '69 while I was away in the USAF. Ended up replacing it with a '71 AMF Harley Sportster. WORST bike I ever owned. 3 gas tanks and 2 transmissions within 3 months. Restored a 70 A65L that is here on the tube. Sold it for $13K. No matter how well you restore them, they are still old bikes.
Neat! When are they coming back?
these things shake your brains out

I have had my dad's BSA for many years, I have a piece of paper that he wrote some numbers on, he's got it wrote down that it's a 63, I went searching for the frame # and motor # that he has wrote down and i couldn't find those numbers, any suggestions
I have a friend who has one for sale in Arlington Texas
Unique ..crazy sound. Fuck ⚡
are those Enfield mufflers ?
Music for 👂
Unfortunately wrong music, but a beautiful bike !
I have a BSA and a sportster ,BSA sounds way better
Weak Kick Start Return Spring
The lever is too heavy
Awesome Bike! Except for that junk-ass, leaky Amal carburetor.
This start up and walk is stupid, every motorcycle ever built had a single purpose. To get from A to B and enjoying the trip, I have no evidence at if this bike is capable of forward motion. A gigantic load of what we all do, go find a little incentive, you could be lucky, you may even learn something... ? .
