- Daguerreotype
The daguerreotype was the first commercially successful photographic process (1839-1860) in the history of photography. Named after the inventor, Louis Jacques Mandé Daguerre, each daguerreotype is a unique image on a silvered copper plate.
What a lovely collection! I love how intentional people were, since it may have been a one time only thing to be photographed, certainly not a frequent event. And I'm guessing parents promised their kids all kinds of things as a reward for sitting still long enough...but then there were the babies too little to be bribed, or stay still..that one family was so well posed, and baby's face is a bit of a blur! But, a precious family portrait nevertheless!
*¡Extraordinaria colección! ¡Que impresionante calidad!*
I have two daguerreotyps. A small one of my great grandfather when he was about two. He was born in 1853. And a large plate family photo of his mother's family in wonderful condition taken in the spring of 1852.
I have a daguerreotype (and ambrotype) with very elderly looking grannies on them. Just think, George Washington was alive when these ladies were younger!
Super 🙂👍💛
