    ABOUT TAPPA:
Tappa is a semi-classical form of Indian Music that originated from the state of Punjab.Gulam Nabi ,who wrote tappas by his pen name 'Shore Miyan' is considered as the inventor of this form.He had a shrill voice which was not suitable for the full throated aakar aalaps of Hindustani Khayal.Once when he was in the Multan/Punjab province,he got inspired from the songs that were sung by the camel riders in that area.It used to get some jumps in it,due to the peculiar rhythmic movement of camel's legs. This is how this beautiful form came into existence.
Further, this tradition was carried to Gwalior and Benaras.Hence Tappas are mostly sung by Gwalior Gharana and Benaras Gharana vocalists.

Tappa is one of the most difficult forms of Hindustani Classical Music. Shori Miyan (Ghulam Nabi) was influenced from the songs sung by Camel riders in the Multan region, and he incorporated those lyrics into the classical style with intricate patterns of peculiar taans in ragas like Kafi, Tilang, Bhairavi, Khamaj, etc. The tradition was carried on to the Gwalior and Benaras Gharanas, and later in Bengal too. That is how tappas gained great recognition.
