Beautiful stuff! Your terrain is the star of the show for me. The figures are a great display but the trees and buildings steal my attention at first glance. Keep showing what you do!

Looking forward to getting these rules to use with my Wofun 2D 28mm figures

The Epic scale examples are how I have my regiments using Black Powder. I think many follow the 4 bases for an average regiment idea! Interesting in how you suggest handling ranges in this scale.

Good solid rule set, and our prefered choice for putting our epic scale ACW on the table. The one weakness that really prevents it from becoming a club game for us is the lack of a point base system to build non-historical battles. The inclusion or development of a point based unit building table would make this game a success for us as a club game. A campaign system would be icing on the cake, but a non-historic unit building system for club play is a big big need for this otherwise great game.

@vonweitzel Thank you! Glad you are enjoying the rules. I'm actually in the process of making points based army lists. Do you have a Facebook account? I upload all documents in the Facebook group.

Thanks for the video. New to the game, having just finished a read-through of the rules, and learning additionally through these videos.
I'm curious about the design decision recommending one more stand of figures than the UC intuitively provides. For example, rather than have a five stand, large regiment with UC = 24 in play that gets whittled down to a four stand, average (UC = 18) regiment, then three, small (UC = 12), then two, tiny (UC = 6), then clearing two stands off the table in one resolution following receipt of a final six UC or a failed morale check, why not downsize the sizes one so that from large to out is 4 / 3 / 2 / 1 gone? Is it a matter of more stands looks better on the table? Worthy answer. Or to differentiate a two-stand, tiny unit from a single stand representing skirmishers? Equally worthy answer. 🙂
Cavalry really seems over-represented by stands to me as recommended. I'd be inclined have a 4 / 3 / 2 stand count for cavalry for large, average, and small respectively, presuming that last two-stand, small cavalry regiment needs a full 12 UC to eliminate it. But again, your thoughts would be appreciated.
I'm guessing either of my preferences above would work if applied consistently at the table. Kudos for designing such a flexible ruleset. It seems really receptive to tinkering.

I really appreciate your kind words and couldn't be happier you like the rules at first glance (though the proof is in the pudding of course!)
Yeah as to your first question, you are absolutely bang on. the tiny unit having two stands as opposed to only 1 is as you say, it looks better than just one. I was (or I should say, me and my gaming group were) trying out different ideas and in the end I decided to have each infantry unit start out with at least two bases, give them 6 points of UC, and build on from that, each additional stand adding 6 points to the UC value. It would work as you describe as well, perfectly fine in fact. The whole system is flexible enough so that everyone can tweak it to his own preference.
The cavalry: yes, to my horror, I noticed I hadn't changed the number of stands in the cavalry section when I received the first proper copy of the book, as I actually intended to do what you have suggested right here. Sigh...... really annoying that these mistakes slip you by, even tough I had read the final layout several times. Live and learn. It's still on my list to add to the Errata sheet I'm working on.
And yes please do tinker away. I set out to write a ruleset that would be easy to pick up, easy to house rule and be the most ACW specific rulesset on the market. I'm not sure if I've accomplished the last goal, that's up to the community to decide, but I think the first two goals were met.
Let me know if I can send you the addendum and Q&A!
      Cheers,
      Arthur

Does the relative frontages to depths matter much? I have a small collection of 28mm (and a modest size table) so I'm thinking about trying 1 "base" = 1 model. A large unit that's only 5 models seems quite approachable to me! However this will mean cavalry, and probably artillery, will be more than double the infantry's depth.

@@themaraviglia6355 no not all. In fact, use whatever base size you feel works best. It will be handy to have roughly the same base sizes for each side

Thanks for showcasing the new rules as they approach publication. I noted in your contents list about dismounted cavalry, are there also sharp shooters or skirmishes ingame? Will Experience adjust morale or effectiveness of shooting? Thanks and subscribed so can see more.

Hi Andrew, my apologies I just saw your post 😱. Yes there are shatpshooters and skirmishers. There are 3 levels of experience in the game with slightly adjusted statlines that will influence shooting, melee and morale: green, regular and veteran.

    I only have a 6x4 table , can i still use 28mm ok ? or would 15mm be better ?

    • @WithHotLeadandColdSteel
      @WithHotLeadandColdSteel  Рік тому +1

Hi Glen! You could use about 3 brigades in 28mm per side on that table. 15mm (or Warlord's Epic scale) would be more ideal

hi have bought the rules and after a read through was disapointed that you dont give any figures for large regt ,ave regt ,small or tiny as to how many troops they have per stand .this would be helpful as a starting point when try to do made up or histrical battles
