HD 60FPS: MARC & Amtrak Northeast Corridor Railfanning @Seabrook, MD Ft. Rare Catches

- Recently, (4/17 to 4/20) I went on vacation in Washington D.C, so I thought railfanning MARC and Amtrak on the corridor was a must. I had a great time railfanning here, because of all the rare catches I got, such as an ACS-64 shoving a MARC train, and a new Viewliner II sleeper being shuttled north on an Amtrak Silver Star. Enjoy the action!
Marc sure does have fantastic bells!
I've commented on Seabrook/College Park being great railfan spots *because* MARC uses them, but AMTRAK does not (despite both being on the *through* path between Union Station and Baltimore Penn Station ("Penn Line Southern Section")). The Northern Section includes Halethorpe and other MARC stations north of BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport.
8:00 that’s what Amtrak 662 before the heritage unit paint scheme and now it’s a heritage unit which is the train simulator unit
Great catches my man ! Honestly MARC should've ordered ACS-64 and more chargers (don't get me wrong I love the MP36 )
I would like them to have the ACS-64, but I would rather that they keep the HHP-8s, I love those.
Nick - The MP36s are great, I just wish they would get rid of those horrible E-Bells. They would be so much better with those good old steel bells.
MP36 and ACS64> chargers
@@TheRandomRailfan which cars is he talking about
The lack of ACS-64s is because the Penn Line is their only electrified line the other two lines - Camden and Brunswick - lack caternaries. Excepy for work trains, SEPTA has no diesels; all their llnes are electrified; NJT is a mix
MARC still have the HHP-8s, and I don't really get why they wouldn't just order some ACS-64s like SEPTA did.
0:26 - I love those. I want to see one, someday.
Eh they're kinda boring in my opinion.
I see them in Toronto all the time
Phoenix Smith - Cool!
No freight trains there? Or did you film the passanger trains only?
No, there weren't any freight trains.
What a nice waste of a station. letting people off in the middle of the track while there is a perfectly good high level platform station ten feet away. Those sleepers are like 3 years behind schedule. I think Amtrak should sue CAF.
Yeah. There is a reason though. I'm not sure if you can see it because of the trees, but on the Washington-bound side, there was a track work vehicle, so that track couldn't be used. And yeah, those sleepers are very late. Shouldn't they have been shipped out with the baggage cars?
Nice video! What camera do you use to film? I’m looking into getting a new camera.
Thanks! I use a Panasonic HC-V770. It's a really good camera and I heavily recommend it.
Random Railfan, yeah it looks good. But can it go on a tripod or monopod?
@@pascackvalleylinerailfan5037 i recommend tri pod, but for rapid movement, like recording _on_ the train you should use a monopod. I have both.
Come back here but on the Sunday after Thanksgiving to see a NJ Transit Arrow lll heading to DC or NY (On that day NJ Transit Arrow lll are borrowed from NJT for service on Amtrak from NY Penn Station to Washington DC Union Station this train is included in both NJ Transit and Amtrak schedule's one the trains are NJ Transit/Amtrak 1057)
I would love to but I'm not going to Maryland to film a single train. Sorry.
7:20 ARE 630's coach-end markers supposed to be on?
Probably not. I don't think it's a safety problem or anything but if I remember correctly they usually leave them off.
Awesome Video, and Nice Catches
Thanks!
How rare is that ACS64 trailing with those BiLevels?
Don't quote me on this, since I've only railfanned MARC once, but I'm pretty sure it's quite uncommon, probably rarer than the HHP-8. Again, don't trust me entirely.
Random Railfan I’d say so because Amtrak never loans locomotives to other rail companies unless it’s a dire emergency.
MARC has a contract with amtrak for using their locomotives at busier times, i was on a MARC train, when i got off, i saw a ACS64 pulling some bilevels, they are uncommin
Well I’ve only railfanned MARC once too, but it seems to me it’s _more_ common than the HHP-8’s.
@@NERJ607yes plus the HHP8 aren’t reliable
Why did the MARC trains stop in the center track isn't that dangerous
There was track maintenance on the track that I was next to.
What kind of video camera do you use?
I use a Panasonic HC-V770
@@TheRandomRailfan ok, thank you
@@amjkodaz No problem.
7:50 662 before the phase 3 wrap
That acs64 had a dent on its nose
Nice!
Thanks!
I thought those were 2 Viewliners in Phase III, I'v never seen the Viewliners in phase III ever. I take it MARC will soon be buying ACS 64s
Amtrak has been buying their new stock in Phase III for what I think is rebranding. The updated Phase III has been on the new Viewliner baggage cars for a while. I wouldn't be surprised if MARC replaced their HHP-8s with ACS-64s, but to this day I'm not sure what the ACS-64 was doing MARC.
@@TheRandomRailfan Ok, so what you mean is they are going to change their Phase V/VI/b Scheme for something new, so the viewliners are being delivered in Phase III? I've been seeing the new baggage cars for a few years at first i thought it was the Heritage but its still in Phase III today. Thought I'd never see Phase III again.
@@pashon4percushon I'm not sure of they're going to repaint everything but it seems that their new deliveries are all in Phase III. So far all they've repainted are the P32AC-DMs that are used on the Empire Corridor south of Albany. Maybe the new Chargers that aren't for state corridors will be in Phase III, but only time will tell. Strangely enough though, the Avelia Liberties aren't wearing Ph. III so I really don't know what's going on with them.
@@TheRandomRailfan oh ok i see now, not sure if you know about the ACS64 going around in CocaCola paint or maybe you have video of it already
@@pashon4percushon Unfortunately I haven't filmed it and with this massive outbreak I don't want to go anywhere particularly crowded. Since New Rochelle is the epicenter for the virus around here going on the New Haven Line is like trying to get it.
Am I the only one that thinks the ACS-64 looks evil with the red lights?
7:28 for reference.
Oh yeah I do too.
Lmao so true
The marker lights: evil
The headlights/ditch lights: good
oh ok
