@Aiden Pearce see an illness is an illness. All deserve treatment and attention..and they are not in our control( as people say just be positive naa!)..That's where people misunderstand.

@Aiden Pearce even arthritis and tuberculosis can't be compared..one is joint related one is bacterial infection. But the problem is people see mental illnesses as some scary thing...some mental asylum thing. That's the stigma. They are very common actually (1 out of 4 people).

I failed in JEE. I couldn't compete with others in coching centre. I was depressed. I cried every evening. I didn't have any friend. I tried to commit suicide. I just can't bear the pain. I stopped going coching and studying. locked myself in a room for 24hrs.
After seeing me like that my dad took me to psychiatry department of a famous hospital (I'm not exposing the name). There I meet two doctor. One of them give me a tablet and told me to take twice after mill. and another doctor talk with me and give me advice. I'm going there for like last 1 year. I'm very happy now. I read regularly and go to college and I have many friends. I took admission in a local college in physics. Sure it's not as good as iits but I'm happy and optimistic about my future. thanks AIB for this video. I hope other learns a lesson from this. My request to every student is don't fall in rat race.

rainbowxxbat different treatment work for different people, depending on the severety of the problem as well as the person themself. My depression is manageable without pills. Remud Everlander may find that pills work best for them. Go with what helps YOU the most, and don't assume that other people are having the exact same experience a you. Mental illness is tricky that way.

    • @ahujasj
      @ahujasj 7 років тому +8

@rainbow, my friend we all find our solutions, and they all work. I've heard of people using yoga, weed, and a whole spectrum of alternative remidies. (If yoga can cure homosexuality based upon the words of a guru, Im sure it can cure depression), (weed is a well known self medication and it works by numbing the brain), but from my personal experience I still prefer the meds. I hate them, they kill my artistic side, but I still dare not leave them for the sake of my family, Ive already lost 2 friends to the illness (one of them lasted 3 years off meds)

It sucks when people treat you like that. As shown in the video. It's sad, but it's the truth.
And yeah, you don't need to have had a fucked up childhood or some traumatic event happen to you in order to have depression. You could have had a perfectly normal upbringing with loving friends and family. Mental illness does not discriminate; it can hit anyone at any time. Your feelings are valid. Don't let anyone make you feel otherwise.

Well I've bipolar disorder, It's a mental disorder in which a person suffering goes through periods of extreme elation and extreme depression. I can relate to this video very well.. I got through the depression thingy by giving up on society. I have a different perspective about things than the society, so I always had trouble mixing up with people. I always tried to mix and got disappointed. And the suicidal thoughts.. well I'm a pretty straightforward nihilistic guy, I believe suicide would cease one's pain and suffering but your parents ( at least mine ) would never be able to forget the fact.. So as a nihilist I believe life and all the materialism is pointless but I cannot leave my parents to such tragedy and yeah let's be honest suicide is painful and requires constitution. So I said fuck society, I'm gonna do what I gotta do to sail my boat smoothly ( as an engineering student, I started studying). And yes, I'm a metalhead and rock and roll kinda guy, and the music helps tons. The source of my depression was why live a pointless life with materialistic greedy people who care about iphones and their vanity more than than the suffering of poor. Whatever the cause of your depression be, go meet a psychiatrist or psychologist, and believe me one day you'll get through it. The answer my friend is blowing in the wind.

Good video. One thing that needs to be noted is that depression shouldn't be self diagnosed and it is difficult to accurately do it for others too. So yes, while we shouldn't make light of our own or of someone else's state, we should try and leave the diagnosis to an expert. What needs to be in place are general guidelines about how to handle situations where you see people getting isolated or having mood swings.

thanks AIB for this awakening video.....lately, I had been suffering from depression and I'm just of 15......my parents are like she's just a teenage mess or she's arrogant or too moody to handle... They just wants to deny the fact....and I couldn't call upon my 'friends' czz they will make the matter worse for me..... Moreover no one sees my vulnerable side where my mind thinks and does shitty things at night... They all just wanted to deny the fact at their best!!!!

Chaynika Singh I don't think most school counselors diagnose depression. Get the counselor to speak to your parents about how you need help. Don't let it worsen. Try hanging out with your friends more, it will usually help distract you so you don't feel too Shitty all day

Depression is just one of the mental illnesses... there are many more.. educate yourself..help people.. seek professional help..
But also PLEASE DON'T ROMANTICISE ANY MENTAL ILLNESS.
It's not something to be proud of.. like tumhe pata hai iska matlab ye nahi ki tumhe honahi chahiye.. you could also be well-informed right?
But also it's nothing to be ashamed of.
The best thing you could do is just BE KIND TO EVERYONE. ☺

i don't really know if there is anything like "mental illness"(maybe u can google thomas szazs for more on this). i am a physicalist and to me its all physical illnesses. your brain is not independent of the rest of your body. case in point is how research is showing how ur gut is related to brain health. i am ok with drugs as long as it is consensual. there r no guarantees in life...it will just take a second (or less) for your own brain to malfunction. it could be just the water you drank from somewhere or a major accident. so think twice before judging people, because u can be on the receiving end. also remember the brain is capable of changing. so just because ur brain malfunctioned before doesnt mean it cant repair and be ok. be kind always!

    How can you treat depression?
    1) tri cyclic antidepressants.
    2) SSRI
    3) recent studies shows mindful meditation works almost atpar with best pharmaceuticals.
    4) and yes , jogging does help alot, so is going out and socializing.

I agree with all your points, but to someone like me who suffers from depression as well as anxiety, it is difficult to go out and socialize or to even jog without feeling uneasy. But I do agree that exercising really helps and if you suffer from anxiety, try to get some exercise at home if you can

8 years struggling with this, you guys are awesome for doing this, hope it pushes atleast a few people to react differently. Nobody ever says "it's all just in your leg, get over it" when you break a bone, high time people understood the brain and the soul is no different and can develop curable, yet, very REAL illnesses.

As a mental health professional, I must say this was a really good initiative to raise awareness on depression and the stigma surrounding it. It is a serious issue and has to be acknowledged and treated as one. It is not something to joke about or take lightly. You might never know and understand the darkness, despair and isolation that the person you advice to 'Get over it' is going through. So please, the least you can do is to lend a listening ear to the person and help them get the professional support they require.

Heartfelt thanks for this video AIB. Through efforts like these, to spread awareness, I feel hopeful. The mind is volatile, and a mental illness is thus very destructive. To everyone who believe they are suffering from depression, I urge you to have the courage to speak to trusted people about it and seek medical help, if needed. If you are reading this, have a good day.

Needed this video 4 years ago, it would have saved me a lot of pain. I had to explain everything million times (literally) with logical reasoning but so called educated dummies didn't even bother to change their perceptive about this issue, and i am/was suffering from OCD + social anxiety + depression. It f**ks you up and depending on your environment could get better or lot worse. Guys, take anti depressant and consult psychiatrist ASAP.
Clinical depression is not your typical mood swing and it needs treatment or you loose valuable time of your life which you can't recover if unchecked/untreated.
Thanks AIB and hope the new Mental health bill 2016 will make lives of mental disease patient better.

Wow.. Thank you very much for this awesome message. I have never watched AIB videos until before. I am subscribing today. Thank you for sharing this and understanding us. I have suffered depression for years but I was ashamed to say because i thought that I will be side-lined. I got medical help when i got obsessive thoughts of killing myself. Now I am on medical help but of course my childhood friend betrayed me, almost most of them think that I am crazy and I should be avoided. There are people who stopped talking to me because they think the same thing like I am crazy. It is a hush-hush matter for all of them. Trust me guys , I have at least heard everything 10 times each from different people and the generalization of course is so well put. Whoever watching this, Please stop generalizing or bullying us , just because we are having depression doesn't make us inhumane or crazy people. To me the maximum one can do is stand by us without saying any of these shit. Thank you!

Oh my God. This brings back memories!! Very well meaning folks told me to take up an activity or go out in the sun and run or don't think you are depressed or just plainly suck it up. Wow, thanks guys, I didn't know that!
What I really needed back then was a close friend who was there for me. Depression put me at a stage where I thought nobody loves me. But a few people regularly called me making me break this thought. I eventually came out of that and am leading a pretty decent life. I know that as my mental positivity shows up on my physical health.

Hey AIB, I just wanted to take this moment and thank you for making this video and especially the message you conveyed at the end, "We have not copyrighted this video so please share it as much as you can."
After the sad demise of *Sushant Singh Rajput* , I decided to share this video to set an example for everyone that depression, suicidal tendecies, etc. need to be dealt with love, affection, care and proper understanding. I feel conveying a message through comedy skits and fun loving entertainment videos is a much better idea than watching news channel or reading millions of stories, posts or whatever uploads that will eventually disappear within 2 or 3 days after the incident.
This video has stayed with me ever since it was uploaded(back in 2017). Although I haven't suffered from depression but I still understood the message really well. I learnt so much from this video and I hope the world does too.
    Thank you AIB.

Reading the comments it seems like almost everyone suffers from depression...but unfortunately hardly anyone speaks about it in real life because of the social stigma against it

AIB, thank you so much for making this video!! It's so incredible to see these issues being brought to light. I've grown up in the US, but many of our NRI parents still have difficulty understanding that mental illness is real. Is there any chance you would be willing to add English subtitles to this video? I would love to share this with friends here in the US, but many of my friends don't know Hindi. It would be a huge help, and we would be able to spread it around widely here. Hope this is possible! Thanks!

Thank you so fucking much for doing this :'D
Sometimes I feel like only you guys get me.. no one around me understands. Everyone is calling this 'drama' and 'natak'.. because of these allegations, I often confront myself that I am overreacting, I'm fine, or that I'm lazy and making excuses. I'm tired of hearing 'Arre, logon ko cancer hain voh bhi toh lad rahe hain! ' and 'Bhagwan ne kya nahi diya tujhe'. I hate this.
Thanks a lot for this videos. The support and passion you guys show towards this issue is commendable :')
I Love you all so much. ^.^

FINALLY! Finally you guys made a video concerning mental health awareness. It means a lot to me personally as I myself try my best to educate the people around me about the same. As a person suffering from a few mental health issues myself, I feel the dire need of awareness and riddance of the ridiculous stigma in our society.
You go get a test done when a green mosquito bites you but don't feel like even looking at a "Brain Doctor". Wah, wah, kya baat hai bhai...you're a whole new level of hypocrisy.
    Cheers. #MentalHealthIsImportant#DepressionIsAnIllness
