8:07 That's what happens when you survive a sizeable explosion. It does a serious number on your brain which can cause physical shellshock. And the psychological impact is not dissimilar from, say, someone who was just in a bad car accident.
I have a form of TBI that affects my thinking and sleeping. I have nightmares every night can't remember if I get up to get something and 10 seconds later I stand there trying to figure out what I got up for. It's not from combat but from a 40 foot fall accident. I tried to land and roll. I didn't break any limbs but I crushed my sinus cavities orbital. When I hit I took a knee to my left eye. Was knocked out for 15 minutes. I can only imagine what those guys are going thru day in and day out.
With the RPG, at a distance of 20-30 meters, I dont think warhead in it had time to arm. I cant remember RPG's minium arm distance, but it also didnt look like it exploded either (Either it flew past the frame of the drone, or hit the ground and went dud)
I can’t get enough of your battle reviews! Wondered if you might do some ‘John Madden’ type stuff to show us where things are and what’s going on. Also would like to hear more about the rifles they are carrying. I know you mention some by military lingo but would like to hear what they are. Fantastic job! I totally support your channel and cause.
I am a civilian, I live in Kyiv - thanks to the whole world, there is a lot of air defense here, and we are relatively safe. but I constantly hear sirens, explosions and the noise of drones. Recently I started having a panic attack - it turned out that the water in the pan was boiling, its noise scared me😅 but when there is a bombing, I am always absolutely calm. a few days ago the ruZZians threw a new type of bomb, it exploded 500 meters from us, even the balcony door shook. I just picked up my dog and took him to the bathroom away from the windows. a strange state... you are afraid of what is not there, but when it is there, you are not afraid
Regarding the grenade, you've asked what's this one. Those grenades with white caps are RGO/RGN nades. These are blast action so it detonates immediately as it hits the ground rather than after fixed time. Kinda helpful in mountains (cause it doesn't slide of the angled surface) and in CQB (enemy has no chance to kick it back or hide).
CAC, please check out Funker530’s interview of one of the members of this team! He goes into detail of exactly everything going on, who everybody is, etc. Interesting note at the beginning is those lines are MICLICs from the day prior, which is why they were confident they shouldn’t get hit by a mine. We saw how that turned out, but luckily nobody was KIA from it.
It's difficult to see but just after 3:52 an spg or rpg warhead passes just through the top of the frame. A meter lower and they would have had an MCI on their infiltration. Jesus.
I saw an interview with the guy who’s footage we are seeing and the man that ran into him was NOT a journalist as the media claimed he just didn’t have a weapon for some reason but he showed in the drone footage that the Russian actually looped around him to his left heading back to his men and GRABBED an AK off a dead Comrad and began shooting at the Foreign fighters but was killed almost immediately after picking up the rifle,..so he was not a journalist, was a soldier , was NOT surrendering or fleeing his unit to give up, the dog of war and limited exposure of the Foreign fighter he probably couldn’t see he was Ukraine until he was ontop of him. He didn’t know clearly they were surrounded. Crazy decision to be made by the foreign fighter, yes he was unarmed and kinda seemed like he was surrendering and harmless as he could have jumped on the camera guy but just goes to show, not shooting him or tacking him almost got teamates killed when he returned got a rifle and fired. It’s always plausible soldiers run out of ammo and still have knives and grenades so I’d say safer to take him out if u can’t easilly subdue him.
not sure exactly when but when they dismount you can pause the video and see an rpg head feet in front of one of the guys faces and then it hits the humvee behind him after pretty wild stuff
The Humvee is pretty tough, it got a really bad rap from Iraq and Afghanistan really because we just drove around in them waiting to roll over a 500KG IED, which even Strykers and Bradleys aren't going to handle well, in terms of the abuse it was kind of meant to take after the upgrade packages, small arms, old rpg 7s, anti personnel mines, the things are absolute troopers, people just need to understand they aren't tanks, they aren't going to survive Gustav hits or Cornett hits and keep driving.

At 15:33 "Check him" Other soldier hits the body with his rifle "For grenades" "Awe yep" Soldier proceeds to check the body while saying "Bad day at the office mate"
That assault was well done. Just came to my mind watching this that one "interesting" thing about volunteers especially early in the war was how many foreign soldiers who came couldn't handle it and we are talking about combat veterans. There was this Finnish guy who made quite the observation between like the mentality of him and other Finnish volunteers and soldiers from other countries like the US. He said that some many soldiers from the US left because "they started to very quickly miss their mom when they realised they are fighting a war without full air superiority, arty superiority and against armored units. These guys had been to like Afganistan and such but many apparently were kind of used to fighting insurgents with lightyear difference in equipment and resources. That as a topic is quite interesting on how to prepare soldiers for an actual war. I read somewhere on why Finnish conscripts handle themselves so well in exercises and that is because our training is fully focused on "conventional war". Also the guy I mentioned I think also said that Finnish volunteers in Ukraine seemed to handle the situation often better, even though they might now have actual combat experience, just because we have always prepared to defend against Russia alone. We in our training had to always assume that we are the under dog in every way materially. It would be interesting to read some research material about this topic, like how soldiers might get used to some situation and not then "work" in other. I have heard like Finnish officers talk about how some NATO countries have sacrificed conventional war capatibilities to train for insurgensy fighting. Which probably is true and understandable given what has been going on for few decades. Now it just has to be switched back. On that same topic I also heard that the situation kind of goes higher as well. Like for career officers it has been more beneficial to study to lead troops in peacekeeping missions than to train to command in actual war. This was I think mentioned by former head of Finnish military intelligence, that many NATO countries have generals who have learned to lead units (usually smaller than their rank should hold) in peacekeeping rather than war. He said that same as with the Finnish conscripts the officers and generals learn and train to lead brigades, divisions and army corps in war first and not peacekeeping missions. Whilst this probably isn't entirely the situaion and I think the general who said this knows it, but it was a time limit required simplification that NATO needs to prepare for war again first and not to fight insurgencies. Wow this became a rant.
well i mean, seems that this is a first conventional army on army war in a while, and yet russians started it hoping for a blitzkrieg and then it all bogged down to some old good wwI trench warfare. But still, talking in terms of russian warfare, they are well fucking familiar with tactics such as artillery wall and then sending meat waves to take over obliterated defence positions. And they don't give a shit about their losses. And idk if there is any tactic that can be employed agains theirs
If you fought for years with all the best equipment, air superiority, and the best artillery. Could you imagine going some place to fight and not have that. Every hard situation call in the helicopters, call in the A10, call in mortars, call in artillery. It makes life so much easier and doesn’t induce critical thinking. USA haven’t fought a war like that since WW2 and we will probably never will. I could see why the soldiers became very enraged and could see it as a lost cause.
Yeah I think it is interesting since this of course wasn't the case for all. And you can't blame those soldiers either. It just goes to show how much you can gain moral support from having overpowering support. It might also indicate the mentality of those soldiers. They might not have been ready to go all the way as others are. Again you can't excatly blame volunteers of that. They might not have realised their "commitment" level either before shit hit the fan.@@Snickerszn
