In your Black Belt magazine interview of 2005, you said that you once defeated a gang of Ninjas and Pirates that attacked you after you walked out of a pedicure. Wow! I don't know what to say, although I am slightly sceptical that there were pirates there that day.

With the self defence question, I 100% agree that you do need the skills to de escalate a dangerous or self defence situation. But saying that you do also need the skills of recognising when de escalation isnt going to work. I live in the uk where knives are a big threat from gangs and criminals. so on some occasions you either have to recognise that you are going to face a knife attack, or you are going to try to get away. The fact that, during a knife attack, aggressors usually lead with their free hand, while keeping the knife close to their side, was first pointed out in 1988 by Don Pentecost. The knife is an extremely dangerous weapon. It is easy to hide, to use and it moves extremely fast. so an unarmed encounter is less likely than an armed encounter.

social violence and predatory violence are two different things. social violence has some escape hatches, predatory violence does not. if weapons are involved, you're most likely dead or severely injured afterwards because no one shows you they have a knife if they are bent on stabbing you.

    • @AngloSaxon1
      @AngloSaxon1 6 місяців тому +1

That is exactly right, you have usually been stabbed before you know what is happening, usually because as you say predatory violence can leave you seriously injured or worse. And predatory violence is much worse in big cities.@@TheKungFuGenius

Spira is Randy Couture s manager, and there is a video of him here on YT claiming he was in Chuck Norris Studio as a little boy, saw Lee and Norris sparr, and that Norris would have had the upperhand if he fought 100% serious. Great as always! And here something you mentioned at 37:15, about Norris and Wall did Point Karate during that time. Of course its true, but the big Ego Wall talked in 2018 here on YT to a channel named "Kung Fu Movie Guide", and of course he sliced it around. He said he and Gene LeBell did already mixing styles before Lee did it. All what Bruce did after 1965, he and Gene already did the same in 1963, like they were as much ahead of their time as Bruce was, maybe even a bit more.
Same Bob Wall (RiP) claimed in some interviews in his final 1-2 years he sparred Muhammad Ali and Earnie Shavers in the 60s, and he said he took Shavers best punches without going down. PS: Shavers was named by many Boxing Historians and former Boxers as the hardest puncher in Heavyweight history, including Hank Kaplan, Bert Randolph Sugar (two boxing historians), Ali, and Larry Holmes.
PS: Ali was hit by Joe Frazier, Sonny Liston, George Foreman and Cleveland Williams, but he said Shavers had the hardest punch.
Holmes was hit by Mike Tyson and Gerry Cooney, but also said Shavers had the hardest punch. That means something!
Yeah, but of course the Point Karate Champion Wall was able to take Shavers best shots. 🤣
A full forced punch from Shavers would have send Wall to the hospital!
I informed a brithis Boxing Writer (published a foto with him and Tyson Fury in 2021) about this, he is a huge Bruce fan and a member of one of his biggest forums, and he commented on YT about it. He said in all interviews with Wall in the 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s and 10s, he never mentioned sparring Ali and Shavers. And the writer said it was absolute nonsense.
Wall never sparred Ali, he never sparred Shavers, and the claim he nailed the prime Ali from 1966 with a sweep kick is totally laughable.
    About Little's book:
I think the book isnt just about who he fought, it’s also about who he didnt fight. Here are some claims by certain people:
    A) Gene LeBell defeated him in an actual fight
    B) Vic Moore defated him in a sparring fight
    C) Chuck Norris defeated him in a sparring or fight
    D) He defeated Chuck in an actual fight
A is claimed by many MMA people including Joe Rogan.
B is claimed by Moore himself. He claimed this in early 2023 on „Viking Samurai“ UA-cam Channel, and Viking Samurai did a podcast with Alex to clean this up.
C is claimed by Randy Couture’s manager Sam Spira on UA-cam.
D is claimed by William Cheung and his son on YT. They said Bruce send William a letter back in the day, claiming he (BL) defeated CN in a real fight, and that was the reason why CN became BLs student. I dont say this is true, but it sounds to me more credible then Chuck s elevator story, only taking about MA and then Chuck had to sign up to take lessons.
Little said most probably Bruce showed him holes in his game and that was the reason for Chuck signing up for lessons.
I think Little is also interested to give counterviews especially about A and C. That LeBell thing is out of control.
LeBell refused to confirm MMA commentator Ariel Helwani that famous Seagal incident. Helwani asked him live on TV multiple times if he choked out Seagal, but LeBell refused to answer yes or no. Later Helwani had Steven on his show and he answered all questions straight. In the end Ariel stated he believes Steven’s account since Gene refuses to reply straight with yes or no.
You can like or dislike Seagal, but when he said in 2019: „Gene LeBell made his ENTIRE CAREER about lying who he’d beat up (Seagal, Lee, Brown, etc..)“, and there is some truth in that. LeBell isnt even mentioned in the „Incomparable Fighter“ Book from 1988, which was authored by Black Belt Magazine founder Mito Uyehara who knew them all from back in the day.
LeBell’s reputation went to the ceiling after his stories with Lee and Seagal, thats not a speculation but a fact.
And the story with Brown helped im too since American Footballer James Talmadge „Jim“ Brown was a good friend of Muhammad Ali and Martin Luther King Jr., and Ali once stated Brown was one of the toughest guys he’d ever met. This went even so far that LeBells good friend and buttlicker Bob Wall (RIP) once said:
„Gene was the referee of the Ali-Inoki fight because he beat both up before“, laughable nonsense!
LeBell was much more famous AFTER these stories then he was before.
And the Point C (Sam Spira) is also something which should get mentioned. Many MMA and UFC fans see it and take it for granit. Spira definately says he saw Bruce and Chuck sparring together in Chuck s Studio, and he knew if both would have gone 100%, Chuck would have won, thats his statment.
And of course Chuck claimed in his bio they sparred in his backyard and Bruce was unable to block his kicks.
I think John will point out Bruce had a daytimer, and neither Gene LeBell is ever mentioned it it once, but also that there is no mentioning Bruce ever went to Chuck s backyard, or sparred with him in one of his Studios when many ppl were around, because Couture s Manager claims he was there as a young boy and saw that sparring, and many others did too.

    • @TheKungFuGenius
      @TheKungFuGenius  Рік тому +2

Everyone's memory of their innovations in martial arts seemed to improve over time. John's book only discusses the fights of Bruce Lee, not the "non-fights" of the likes of charlatans like Moore and Travodor Ramos (spelling?). A) Never happened, even Gene didn't claim this. B) Vic Moore is an obvious liar, no one needs to add any gas to his statements, he is best ignored, C) The fact that someone related to a tough guy like Couture said something is not a statement of fact. Sources must be primary, a guy who saw a sparring match no one ever heard of saying that if maybe it went 100% Chuck would win.... come one, why are we meant to take such a specious claim remotely seriously. D) Mr. Cheung never saw Bruce after 1959, why does anyone consider him a source on Bruce post 59'? Please understand that I'm not the guy who thinks Bruce was unbeatable, but come one, these are worst than thirdhand stories AT BEST.

    • @chrisbach1533
      @chrisbach1533 Рік тому

All correct. And thx about the info about the book. BTW i saw on Amazon a comment from you is listed in the press reviews about the book :). The other comment is from MMA Bellator president Scott Coker.
      About A, C and D:
Sure it's mostly thirdhand story/ies. But even if it was like you once said in a lowsy documentary, "I Am Bruce Lee" (2012) was seen on Spike TV by 1.4 million people when it was first aired (source: Wikipage of the producer Pete McCormack, who did a great doc with "Facing Ali", but a horribly doc with "I Am Bruce Lee"), so many ppl saw it.
In that doc LeBell said Lee was some small, little dude and he portrays it like it was no problem for him to grab him and throw him out of the window, and later LeBell said when ppl say Lee woud or could beat Norris, he would be ready to bet much mony that Chuck wins.
And of course this supports point C by Spira.
And then you have Chuck's son Mike Norris sitting in the "Info Wars" show with this Alex Jones dude, who even said one of the school shootings was staged and noone died (he was found guilty last year or so and has now to pay the family members of the victims many million dollars), and Mike Norris saying: "My dad (Chuck) would have killed Bruce Lee in a street fight".
Of i can say my own dad would have killed Bruce and Chuck both in a fight. :D
So or so the story of Spira is easy to debunk:
He says when he did join Chuck's gym for the first time, there was man with full beard and blue eyes.
He didnt know who he was at that time, and he found it he was Steve McQueen. Fact is:
Steve ony became a Chuck student after Bruce left for Hong Kong in the fall of 1971, not before. Of course usually Chuck never mentions that. Bruce recommended Chuck to Steve, which was the only reason why Steve became a student of Chuck. And this was in late 1971.
Later in the interview Spira said they all worekd out together, he himself, Pat Johnson, Chuck Norris, Bill Wallace, Bruce Lee and Bob Wall.
And here you have already 2 points why the story is fake:
      1) After Steve became Chuck's student, Bruce was busy in Hong Kong doing his movies, he had almost no time to be in LA and train with them.
      2) Wallace and Lee never met, not a single time and not for one second, even Bill confirmed this mulitiple times. He told J. Little he would have loved to train with Bruce but he never met him.
And even if point 1 could be "debunked" by some ppl since Bruce was for short times in LA in 1972 and 1973, there is nothing to debunk on ponit 2, which clearly underlines Spira is a liar and made the story up.
And i dont buy the story by W. Cheung at all since he lied too many times. I had a long discussion with one of his students about his comment he introduced Bruce to Yip Man when Bruce was 13, and i said he was more like 15 or even 16.
      M. Polly has very strong, good, logical and believable points Bruce was 15 or 16 and not 13, but Cheung's student was totally stubborn about it, telling me how could i question the credibililty of his Sifu etc...i stopped the talk at that point.
So Wiliiam is a weak source. I just mentioned his story is here on YT too, not that i believe in it.
And of course i know you arent among the ppl who think Lee was unbeatable, i dont think that either! But i have strong doubts some wooden guy like Chuck could ever touch or hurt him, or some elephant like slow mover like LeBell could grab him if he is 100% ready.
There were ppl who could and would beat Lee, yes, but i doubt very much Carlos Ray Norris or Ivan Gene LeBell are among these people.
But its good to know the book will come out in the next months. And even if its not in the book, but John made clear on a podcast in June 2022 the story of LeBell is on very weak legs, and he brought up the points you also did in a while ago, reading from his 29 page file.

      Great points

    • @chrisbach1533
      @chrisbach1533 Рік тому

Very good points! I gonna add a couple things:
Something in general about Point Karate (not about Lee, only in general). Here are some fight records compared to professional Boxers and Muay Thai fighters:
      Sam Langford (Boxer): 314 fights
      Saenchai (Muay Thai): 378 fights
Skipper Mullins (Point Karate): 1115 fights
I am not absolute sure, but i think Langford and Saenchai are among the fighters with the most bouts across all full contact combat sports. I couldnt find anyone in Boxing or Muay Thai with 400 bouts and more.
This should underline how "dangerous" Point Karate is compared to Boxing or Muay Thai. Langford and Saenchai togehter had 692 fights. Mullin's doesnt double that, but over 1100 fights just shows how much damage your body takes in Point Karate.
World Champion in Point Karate doesnt make someone a tough guy, a skilled guy in a certain skill contest yes, but not tough or relevant to full contact combat sport or street fights (only adressed to the milenium kids on YT who always claim "Chuck Norris was a real fighter").
Kenpo Karate founder Ed Parker Senior’s record as „fighter“ is 0-0-0. Still he is regarded a martial arts legend, great MA Instructor, and very effective street fighter. Not one of the Point Karate Champions from back in the day ever challenged his status or challenged him.
      Parker Sr. about Point Karate:
„Tournament Karate is not full contact Karate. The idea is to execute a Karate technique with full control. You win matches by outscoring your opponent, not by killing them.“
      ua-cam.com/video/f-3ZyQBCIUo/v-deo.html
This should underline the Point Karate Champions like Norris, Moore etc. never executed their strikes with full power, and the goal was to outscore the opponent, not by hurting them. And it underlines Point Karate wasn’t full contact, so Norris etc. were never full contact fighters.
Take a look at (full) professional Soccer player Pelé (1940-2022), who was born the same year as Norris and Lee. During the 1960s he was badly injured many times and had to take longer breaks to recover. Back in the day yellow and red cards didn’t exist, and you could attack opponents very hard. Pelé suffered many leg injuries through heavy kicks to his legs. Compare his injury list with Point Karate Fighters. Pelé was much more injured as them, even if he was a Soccer player and not a combat sport fighter.
      I go even further:
A couple weeks ago a new video was uploaded about former Pro Boxer Randall "Tex" Cobb. He fought George Foreman once but also Earnie Shavers.
In the beginning of the clip, the narrator says Cobb won 1980 the FIRST world tournament in kickboxing.

So if this is true (i cant check it out), then even American Kickboxers like Joe Lewis, Bill Wallace etc. were never real World Champions. At least not in the 70s when they had their prime.

The great American karate fighter Joe Lewis attested to Bruce Lee abilities and what he could do.If anyone knows about karate fighters like Mike Stone, and Joe Lewis for these guys to go train with a 140 pounds 5 foot guy he had to do something to convince them to stick around.Chuck Norris Is a pos racist that represents that crowd that will never admit that a Chinese guy beat him,but we all no the truth.
