For what i remember, the combine guard was actually really hard to beat, cause seems like he would be a boss or a mini boss that would show up in like, a place with alot of props, and no bullets could make damage to him, his armor was just too OP, but, seems like, the way to beat him, was to use your gravity gun, to throw props at him, to deal damage, althought i don't remeber if it's armor would go down by throwing proprs and then you shoot him up, of if he just dies by throwing alot of props at him. Edit: also, the crab synth would have a pretty creative way of beating it, since it had armor like the combine guard except for his belly, you would need to throw a grenade at his belly, which also a sign that he would show up probably would be a big load of grenade supplies, just like the striders, when you're about to face one, the game gives a whole bunch of rockets on the way, and gives you a supply crate somewhere in the battle, which is really cool to make. Edit2: Fun fact, for what i know, seems like all of the beta units show into the video, are actually in half life 2 lore, althought, i don't know sincei just saw it from the community.
What Valve could've done: is make these Synths a part of an elite Combine squad: Synth Squadron. One of each of the Synths shown in this video, plus some extra Mortar Synths and the addition of Assault Synths. Also, take away the Strider. Since it'd be OP as hell, you'd need to team up with Dog just to have a fighting chance against them.
I’m pretty sure the beta combine were supposed to be more heavy juggernauts then light infantry, and the reason I think they removed them was either too much work, too OP for a player, or they just didn’t fit the environment or gameplay, I think these units could work more as if they were used during the seven hour war when they possibly had not converted humans, and were used on many other planets against other races.
I still remember when you covered the Combine Assassin and the Cremator in that one ancient video. Glad to see we have more HL2 Beta mods.

I really love the creepy feel of HL2 and these things really compliment that, shame so much was cut.
Looks cool, best recreation technical wise, although they too powerful to be fun in gameplay through.

i think after the 7 hour war some of the synths became obsolete which left the gunship, the dropship and some other synths left
The synths didn't become obsolete the Combine just don't need them to be part of the garrison force.
