Amazon had the Sigma 30mm F1.4 for $264. That's an outstanding price for such a lens and on apsc, you have 45mm equivalent, which is a very nice length for talking head work imo. Sets the camera just a bit further away and reduces the facial distortion. I love it
I bought a Z50 to get me through my college media classes. It's very exciting to see the types of cameras coming out in the 2k$ range to look into when I graduate and want to upgrade.
So Excited about this Camera! You did the right thing with the pre order. I feel bad for poor Douglas the FX30 is going to be the new Favorite Camera. As for me, I have a hard choice to make, The a74 or the FX30. I do like a viewfinder, but that 4k120p and 240 in 1080 has me drooling. I'm going to have to wait until you get yours and put it thru the grinder.
I am considering buying this camera as an upgrade path from my a6400. I don't have to buy a new set of lenses for it anymore since I can just reuse my current lens (still planning to buy like 2-3 apsc lenses first before buying that one ^^;) Also dang, I didn't realize that you grow much more now! I am film student so my jaws dropped when I heard the news of this camera! I got my ZV-E10 like 5 days ago, mainly for videography so I almost thought I made the wrong decision but for me who's on a budget and a beginner when it comes to CAMERA Filmmaking (old player of smartphone filmmaking here!) ZV-E10 is still the best. I mean I'm aspiring VFX artist too! So that RAW would help with ACES workflow but that'll cost $1000 more🥲 Anyways I think I gotta pickup some freelance work to buy an FX30. Edit: okay it won't be $1000 it'll be ~$1450 as the tax rates on cinema cameras are more in India. So according to the price difference of FX3. I think FX30 will cost ~$2250. Well shit 🤦🏻♂️ (Not me nerding out in uncle Mark's comment section 😭)

The ZV-E10 can hold up image quality with the big boys. Use it as much as you can, make some good money on it and then see if you need those upgrades later.

If these had been around a year ago I'd likely have gone with this over the ZV-E10s, but for what I do (UA-cam/Instagram/TikTok videos in a studio) I don't see enough benefit to upgrade. I really love Sony's APS-C options - they're an incredible value and that is especially true when you need multiple cameras - I use up to three ZV-E10s + A6600's in my studio simultaneously, so going up to something like an A7s or R5 becomes exponentially more expensive and out of the budget! I think the FX30 will do really well though, and I'm most excited about the faster sensor readout as that has been my biggest gripe about the A6600s and ZV-E10s when I've used them on anything outside of a controlled studio environment. What I do REALLY WISH Sony had incorporated here is a 6K internal or external recording option. I believe this new sensor is the same one used in the Fujifilm X-H2S, which does support 6K. I get why they didn't go this route as the FX3 and FX6 can't offer greater than 4K resolution, but this would have been THE FEATURE that I would have strongly considered upgrading for. Over 4K resolution may seem like overkill for most use cases, but I typically use 2-3 ZV-E10/A6600s and then crop-in to effectively get 4-6 angles in post. I also make vertical versions of my videos for YT Reels, IG Reels, and TikTok - that's where I see a real tangible benefit to 6K or 8K resolution as it would allow me to get a much better vertical (9x16) cropped version for those platforms.
My only reservation is the relatively low second native ISO, was hoping for 4,000 or even 6,400. Not a knock on Sony at that price at all. Kind of wild if it's Netflix-approved like the FX3 (when the SIII is not). Should be with the timecode and DCI 4K RAW out. The IV and FX30 would make an absolute beast of an A and B cam at such a good price.
This will probably be my first APS-C... I waited long for the "upcoming" ZV e-mount camera... that never came. Thx SAR :) I think given that I waited for 1 year, this camera is perfect for me to be my first APS-C & level up my quality to absolute next-level!
It’s missing a key feature that prevents me from preordering NOW and the same reason I sold the Siii….. crop mode/pixel to pixel, whatever your may call it. The A7iv is so useful with that mode that I found I was using a lot more than high framerate. Oddly, it’s the default mode of 4K 120, yet does not exist outside of that framerate.
@@AlphaCentauri24 Yeah and that effectively makes the sensor size smaller than M43 so there would not be much point of having that huge of a decrease in quality in the main shooting modes.
I already have a ZV E10 which I use as my only camera, stills and video. I also have the Sigma 16mm, Tamron 11-20 and 17-70. I was planning to upgrade to the A74 because of the stills capability over Dougie. I'm in New Zealand so we don't have pricing yet for the FX30 but I imagine it will be 75% of the cost of the A74, how about one of your favourites - a comparison video using the APS-C glass on the A74 and FX30?
They should have sent you one! It's a no brainer, been wanting a clear upgrade to the zv-e10 and this looks like it could be it! Can't wait to see some side by sides w the supposedly new apsc sensor.

i just started a video company, i bought an a7iv + sigma 24-70 beqause it can take amazing photos and video. you can perfectly mix it with a7s3, fx3 and fx6 footage!

Two things: Sony needs to make a "Camera Crisis" special, limited edition, production run of the FX30 with your signature on it (kind-a like Leica did with the Q2 "Seal" edition) and, number two: What is little Dougies brother/sisters new name?
It would be awesome if Sony makes the APS-C flagship camera for the a6xxx series with a viewfinder , mechanical shutter, similar 4k 60p, cropped 120p, sensor stabilization, dual card slots and definitely cooling fan and keep the price around $1500.
I'm very interested in a comparison between the FX30 and the A7IV. The price difference between these cameras is here in The Netherlands not that big: FX30 costs 2299 euro (body only) and the A7IV costs 2799 euro (body only). Why is the FX30 a lot more expensive here than in the USA?

What a surprise this camera is. I would have been perfectly happy with an upgrade to a6600 with 4k 60 and 10 bit 4.2.2. but 4k 120 is a big surprise and a complete pro fx3 body on top of that. And yes Sony should send you everything!
Yep, I'm in. I shoot the Sony VG20 apsc e mount video camera. I want to move up to a robust current camera (sorry, dougie!) like the A6600 but this is even better for me.
Good thing i hold my money longer and didn't get the zv-e10. And good thing local store zv-e10 is out of stock. 😁 I know zv-e10 is a lot cheaper than this like half the price but still i want this because fx3 is way more on the budget and also i got a6600 so i can just use my existing lenses with fx30. Also the rolling shutter on this is superb.
I'm poor (not complaining, only saying this because I want your pity), but it seems to me that a ZV-E10 + Sigma lens or two is still a LOT of money, and if this is the case, why not try to scarf up a few hundred more $$$ and get an FX30 if one has videocentric aspirations? Sigma lends me pre-release gear - which is great. Sony talks to me a bit and lends me older gear - but they’ve yet to lend me pre-release stuff. Probably because I’m too cool 😎

You’ll be able to make the zv-e10 look identical to the fx30 in many situations for sure. The FX30 is for people who need things like 2 card slots, 16 bit raw, and 10-bit (for heavy colour grading) 4K at 60 and 120. But the image quality of the ZV-E10 will hold up. I’ll be doing some tests to show that.
If only they would bring these features (maybe ditch the cinema like features) into a zv-e10 price range I've seen a guy using the 11 mm f1.8 with the FX 30 and the quality of outstanding
It's a great product and has some nice features vs the Alpha A7IV I got its even cheaper then the A7IV! I'm not unhappy though with my A7IV. I got the ZV-E10 because of your videos and don't have any regrets so far specially for its price.
I’ll wait for your review. I’ve wanted the FX3 since it was released, but I’ve always had a hard time justifying it. And living in Florida, definitely need a weather-sealed body, which is one of my biggest issues with my Dougie. Also wanna see about the rolling shutter on the FX30. Another challenge for the Dougie.
the jump from 8 bit (using the sony zv-e10) to 10 bit with the new sony fx30 along with a ton of other features makes the fx30 the new "sony zv-e10" based on the price i think its worth it migrate to this new camera, I wonder what would be the ideal lens to shoot weddings with this camera? 10mm-20mm?.
shooting weddings - you’ll want some versatility. The 10-20 is and f4, so you may want to look at the Tamron 11-20 because it’s. an f2.8. but these are wide lenses, - you’re probably going to need some closer zooms as well

SONY FX30: $1790 In Europe SONY FX 30: 2290€ Of course the $ has increased compared to the € but other products don't have this difference: Sony A7iv 2499$/2760€ Sony ZVE10: $753/€749 Canon R7 1650$/1499€ why so much difference? Strongly a video comparison between the FX30 & the small ZVE10.
Waiting for the review of the reviews😀 I'm interested in the Sony ZV-E10 + Sony E 15mm f/1.4 G setup for youtube, it's not worth the Sony FX30, the investment is too big, I'd better switch to full frame.

It really depends - if you want to get into colour grading and need that 10-bit footage or want slow motion in 4K or raw output - sure. But if you're shooting in standard modes and getting everything you need - stick with what is working.

The FX30 actually gives my A7iv a run for its money. The FX30 has less rolling shutter, and its sharpness is almost identical to the A7iv despite the smaller sensor. Hmm. I only really need one kidney. Sooooo....

"Catalyst Browse" Is Sony software that helps you make the footage better; stabilization, rolling shutter, etc. But it only works on the latest Sony cameras. Cheers!

I’m up here in Canada, we have it at 2399 Canadian which is reasonable. I think the Uk adds a lot of fees to the cameras - which really sucks for you guys.
Hello, just want to ask, what about this particular camera makes it a “cinematic” camera? What sets it apart from regular apsc cameras that sony has already like the 6000 series or the zv’s? I’m curious because I was waiting for sony to drop either the next 6000 series of cams or another zv which those cameras I’m already familiar with but then this came out and I have no idea about what this camera does exactly different from the rest lol I’m a simple guy, give me an a6600 capability with a flip out screen and the new menu and color science and I’ll be handing sony my money 😄
This camera has 1) 10 bit color 4.2.2 for color grading on all frame rate modes 2) It has tons of features for video shooters all pf which were absent in older apsc 3) it has slr adapter for audio, which is a standard interface for cinema grade audio equipment 4) ability to send clean feed threw full size hdmi 5) Even more possibilities for recording externally
Any camera would give you cinematic look if you want it and if you can pull it. The term cinematic is conventionally used whenever any camera has those pro features like dual native iso, raw upload and luts inclusivity. All of which the fx 30 has. Now it lacks features like internal raw, nd filters, shutter angle, vectroscope and false colours but for what it does have, it can still be called cinema camera.
Thanks for all the reply, it seems this camera is beloved by all reviewers that I watched so far and yea it does pack a lot of features for video. But for my needs/wants I think its not a good fit. I’ll probably wait for the next 6000 series or zv series that’s about to come out hopefully soon. My wish is just a combination of 6600 with the zv flipout screen, plus the new menu system and color science 😅
not really - just UA-cam ad revenue and affiliate links help pay for some stuff. I also have my regular job as a comedian - and usually don’t spend too much on cameras gear. A7iv, zv-e10 in the last two years and that pretty much it.
I can't wait for backyard low light test versus zv-e10.

LOVE the Sigma 16/30/56mm series on these cameras! It is such a great value. I also like the Rokinon 12mm F2.0 for when I need an ultra-wide angle.

Yes - that’s why I takes about it I. My vid. I think it would be so beneficial to have that pixel to pixel crop to match the 4K 120 crop in all modes
It does not probably because the sensor itself is cropped. The crop mode on your a7iv gives you around 1.5x crop. The crop mode on this one is 2.5x

I'm very interested in a comparison between the FX30 and the A7IV. The price difference between these cameras is here in The Netherlands not that big: FX30 costs 2299 euro (body only) and the A7IV costs 2799 euro (body only). Why is the FX30 a lot more expensive here than in the USA?

What a surprise this camera is. I would have been perfectly happy with an upgrade to a6600 with 4k 60 and 10 bit 4.2.2. but 4k 120 is a big surprise and a complete pro fx3 body on top of that. And yes Sony should send you everything!

Yep, I'm in. I shoot the Sony VG20 apsc e mount video camera. I want to move up to a robust current camera (sorry, dougie!) like the A6600 but this is even better for me.
Good thing i hold my money longer and didn't get the zv-e10. And good thing local store zv-e10 is out of stock. 😁 I know zv-e10 is a lot cheaper than this like half the price but still i want this because fx3 is way more on the budget and also i got a6600 so i can just use my existing lenses with fx30. Also the rolling shutter on this is superb.
I'm poor (not complaining, only saying this because I want your pity), but it seems to me that a ZV-E10 + Sigma lens or two is still a LOT of money, and if this is the case, why not try to scarf up a few hundred more $$$ and get an FX30 if one has videocentric aspirations? Wonderful first impression review, thanks. Hope you can do a hands-on exposition soon. Going to wait until it's been in the wild for a bit, but I think this is the camera I'm excited about getting.

Sigma lends me pre-release gear - which is great. Sony talks to me a bit and lends me older gear - but they’ve yet to lend me pre-release stuff. Probably because I’m too cool 😎

When you add in the cost of "required CF express type A cards for 4K 60/120 and HD 240 it's not inexpensive save your money for a A7SIII

You’ll be able to make the zv-e10 look identical to the fx30 in many situations for sure. The FX30 is for people who need things like 2 card slots, 16 bit raw, and 10-bit (for heavy colour grading) 4K at 60 and 120. But the image quality of the ZV-E10 will hold up. I’ll be doing some tests to show that.

It's a great product and has some nice features vs the Alpha A7IV I got its even cheaper then the A7IV! I'm not unhappy though with my A7IV. I got the ZV-E10 because of your videos and don't have any regrets so far specially for its price.

I’ll wait for your review. I’ve wanted the FX3 since it was released, but I’ve always had a hard time justifying it. And living in Florida, definitely need a weather-sealed body, which is one of my biggest issues with my Dougie.
Also wanna see about the rolling shutter on the FX30. Another challenge for the Dougie.

Gerald Undone compared the rolling shutter to A74 and it's not nearly as bad but nowhere near the level of FX3.

I would still pick up the A7iv over this camera. I would only get the fx30 over the A7iv if you want the raw output and need 4K 120

the jump from 8 bit (using the sony zv-e10) to 10 bit with the new sony fx30 along with a ton of other features makes the fx30 the new "sony zv-e10" based on the price i think its worth it migrate to this new camera, I wonder what would be the ideal lens to shoot weddings with this camera? 10mm-20mm?.
shooting weddings - you’ll want some versatility. The 10-20 is and f4, so you may want to look at the Tamron 11-20 because it’s. an f2.8. but these are wide lenses, - you’re probably going to need some closer zooms as well

It really depends - if you want to get into colour grading and need that 10-bit footage or want slow motion in 4K or raw output - sure. But if you're shooting in standard modes and getting everything you need - stick with what is working.

The FX30 actually gives my A7iv a run for its money. The FX30 has less rolling shutter, and its sharpness is almost identical to the A7iv despite the smaller sensor.

The fan can run - but you shouldn’t be able to hear it unless it gets really hot and even then - not much

"Catalyst Browse" Is Sony software that helps you make the footage better; stabilization, rolling shutter, etc. But it only works on the latest Sony cameras. Cheers!

Hello, just want to ask, what about this particular camera makes it a “cinematic” camera? What sets it apart from regular apsc cameras that sony has already like the 6000 series or the zv’s? I’m curious because I was waiting for sony to drop either the next 6000 series of cams or another zv which those cameras I’m already familiar with but then this came out and I have no idea about what this camera does exactly different from the rest lol I’m a simple guy, give me an a6600 capability with a flip out screen and the new menu and color science and I’ll be handing sony my money 😄
This camera has
1) 10 bit color 4.2.2 for color grading on all frame rate modes
2) It has tons of features for video shooters all pf which were absent in older apsc
3) it has slr adapter for audio, which is a standard interface for cinema grade audio equipment
4) ability to send clean feed threw full size hdmi
5) Even more possibilities for recording externally
Any camera would give you cinematic look if you want it and if you can pull it. The term cinematic is conventionally used whenever any camera has those pro features like dual native iso, raw upload and luts inclusivity. All of which the fx 30 has. Now it lacks features like internal raw, nd filters, shutter angle, vectroscope and false colours but for what it does have, it can still be called cinema camera.
Thanks for all the reply, it seems this camera is beloved by all reviewers that I watched so far and yea it does pack a lot of features for video. But for my needs/wants I think its not a good fit. I’ll probably wait for the next 6000 series or zv series that’s about to come out hopefully soon. My wish is just a combination of 6600 with the zv flipout screen, plus the new menu system and color science 😅
But can it shoot in dark tombs?

I don’t buy too many - most of them are borrowed. The ones I do buy are bought over the years. Plus, the channel pays for some.

not really - just UA-cam ad revenue and affiliate links help pay for some stuff. I also have my regular job as a comedian - and usually don’t spend too much on cameras gear. A7iv, zv-e10 in the last two years and that pretty much it.
