    Ameterasu doesn't poop flowers..... The ground she steps on is just so full of life because she's a god that flowers immediately spring up. At least that's how I always understood it, but they're definitely not coming out of her butt...

    Amarusu? Inzun? Orchee? What game where you playing?!
    Their names are:
    Amaterasu (ama-teh-ra-sue)
    Issun (ee-soon)
    Orochi (or-oh-chee)

    Who else should think this should be a Wii U game?
    Reason for saying that is so that you can use the gamepad to make the drawings on the touchscreen, and make it more responsive that both the PS2 and Wii versions. This is purely my opinion only, but I think it might be a good idea.

      ***** Agreed and if that does somehow become a reality throw in re-release for PS4 and PC too for Steam, get as many opportunities to play this game as possible. (and of course fix up possible problems people had with the game)

    @UdderChaosStudios Some people have a hard time drawing a straight line. SO instead of pressing A to draw, press Z. It allows you to draw a straight line, so it will work every time

    @Ozqawr The Ps2 version has a beautiful paper filter and it has the credits and the combat is much more easier to get good at. The Wii version runs at 480p and 16:9 widescreen, you can skip cutscenes at any playthrough but it lacks the credits and the paper filter.

    Thank you for this review. I had a lot of trouble in the battle scenes and kept dying, but your information on setting a rythym and not just hitting the enemy over and over is very helpful. I might actually pick it up again and keep playing now that I know what to do. Thanks!

    @SpencervdM to be fair tho , not as if the names are things like Bob, Sam, Lucy, im sure ppl in Japan would have trouble pronouncing the names that we have

    I really had a hard time trying to get the motion controls to work properly...maybe it was the lighting the in the room or something because every time I tried to attack using the paintbrush to slash, it just wouldn't work for me. I just ended up watching my sister play it. I hope the DS sequel is a bit easier to control since it uses the stylus.

    @Pooky1991 Yah, i think the hardest parts in the whole game are the interactable cutscenes where you you have to make the flowers bloom or cut the rocks for the other people. I just restarted the game yesterday and its just as bad as i remember it a few years ago

  • @Ceriff88
    @Ceriff88 15 років тому +1

    This game is one of my absolute favorite games EVER. I love this game with all of my heart, I bought it for the PS2, beating it 4 times, and on the WII, beating it 2 time. On the fighting controls, I thought they were better on the WII because it takes more skill and practice...

  • @ShiveringGaze27
    @ShiveringGaze27 11 років тому

    For people that played on the Wii, can I ask, from the footage that I've seen it appears that when you draw with the Celestial brush it's wobbly and hard to draw exact circles or slashes. Do they have more leeway on Wii than PS2 then, or do you fail a lot more? Is it true it's a lot harder to draw exact?
    I know he talked about this a tiny bit but I can't help asking because of what I saw with the drawing clips.

  • @singergal28

    Horray for a fellow PS2 Okami player! I guess I was one of those 12, too? XD I love this game...so much. I've replayed it and would do it over and over again! It's just such an amazing game!

  • @DragonWoolf
    @DragonWoolf 14 років тому

    @Kyangtse Actually a lot of people i talk to say otherwise. It is a lot easier and quicker to draw what you need. I prefer the Wii version and i have played both.

  • @FuzzyGhost
    @FuzzyGhost 14 років тому

    I never died in the Wii version, but I agree that there was no reason that they should have bogged down the combat in this version with the waggle timing.
    Also, I found it harder to draw the shapes, and in one of the Quick-Time Draw events, I couldn't advance because it would draw the wrong thing, or not recognize what I had drawn at all.

  • @laserbam

    I've never played it for PS2 or Wii and was debating on whether which would be better to buy it for. You mentioned the wii controls were annoying during attacks and it seems like the PS2 version would be better. Which would you recommend I buy?

    @toadsworthrox Same with the combat controls. It felt like it was by luck that I could pull off a combo. It took the fun out of combat alot. They should have wither assigned attacking to a button or made it so you could swing as fast as you like to execute a combo.

  • @MangoBased

    Great review, i found it very easy though. I hardly ever died, and i had several Asteral pouches full too, but the occasion to use them never came. I wish people would go out and buy the game, its really amazing and it needs more sales.

  • @wizimaster
    @wizimaster 14 років тому

    Actually there's a total of 26 upgrades to your brush.
    Speaking of the hidden ones (not found during the story):
    Some of them are upgrades (that's executed the same as the technique you upgraded), others are totally new ones that require it's own symbol.
    7 of the hidden brush techniques require their own symbol.
    all this on top of the 13 basic brush techniques!

    @SpencervdM I found it funny, too.
    A-ma-te-ra-su
    O-ro-chi
    Ees-soon (Issun)
    But i only know because i took Japanese classes in high school. I used to pronounce Akane like "a cane" rather than "a-ka-nay" so i completely understand, haha.

    @Giremsix orochi is according to japanese mythology is a 8-headed and 8-tailed dragon/serpent demon slain by the storm god susanoo (who is also a character in okami)
    also naruto was influenced by that story since the technique that killed orochi was called susanoo :)

    the wii controls are a lot harder. because if you don't have the sensor bar positioned just right or you randomly jerk your hand slightly then the line youre drawing with will go all over the place. too me going through the entire game to finally get the hang of it.

  • @gengarrules777

    you should totally get it. i'm just a casual gamer but i've been coming back to this game week after week and just enjoying it so much i've been dreaming about it. it's so visually stunning and funny. some parts are so relaxing; like when you're feeding the animals

    people with problems:
    i seldom had any control problems. unless i sat to the side of the sensor bar. try sitting/standing right in front.
    as for the review, i completely agree. in fact, i think he understated the game's originality. i haven't come across a more beautiful or engaging game since then. not even games on ps3 or 360 (if you care about my opinion which u probably dont :P)
    peace!

    It actually took me more than a month to finish Okami (PS2) because I spent so much time looking for secrets and doing one of the most addicting things since Sly coopers pickpocketing...fishing!. I loved fishing in this game! Fishing is actually the easiest way to get money too. I died once (first playthrough) fighting all the kusa 9 dogs at once (damn was it tricky) without using any items (I never use them anyway) to make it easier.

    Nice review indeed. okami is pretty much my favorite wii game (if you dont count in any party games such as brawl) One thing I cannot agree on with you is the battle system. I have died once in the two times that I ran through the entire game and did not find the battle system hard at all, in fact I really liked it and even hunted enemies for the sake of it :p

    There isn't a way that you can enjoy a demo of a game that is a huge epic adventure. Heck, I can't play Oblivion and move somewhere without playing an hour.
    This moves a fair bit faster though.

    1.Okami (this one)
    2.Okamiden
    3. Majoras Mask
    4.Skyward Sword
    Okami is easily one of the greatest games of all time
    Zelda is good but not as good as Okami

    @kakashi3251 The sequel just came out for the Nintendo DS it's called Okami Den. I just beat it last night, it's one of the best DS games I've ever played. Not quite as amazing as the first but it's setting up for a sequel. You can get Okami for $15 on either system at GameStop. Having play both versions of the first I'd say in you have a PS2 get that version. It's more responsive in combat which is a huge chunk of this game.

    It is a game produced by a company for a console other than the manufacturing company of the console. Ex: Sega is a company that makes games for a console it did not make like Sonic Unleashed for the Wii therefore it is a 3rd party involved in the production of a game.

    Just wanted to note, the reason they probably didn't add in any content is that the studio that made the game, Clover, was disbanded in 2007. I don't know if that means they couldn't have gotten someone else, but anyway, I don't know if you knew or not. Just wanted to say, that's probably why there was nothing new.

    You may also be surprised then to hear that pretty well the WHOLE PLOT is based off of an old myth where Kushinada-hime was to be sacraficed to an 8-headed dragon when a man turned her into a comb and hid her in his hair to protect her, thus influencing a huge theme in this game.... and also Kushi's hairstyle :3
