My wife and I first went to Nana's when it was about fifteen chairs in the back of their family home. Now, we are regulars. It's a remarkable success story of hard work and tasty food by Roxy, Alfredo, family, and staff. The lonches are good, but there is also a lot more great food. My personal favourite is Nana's Big Torta, a sandwich, or the Taco Pirata.
I was born in Mercedes, Texas back in 1958. Weslaco didn't have a hospital back then. Growing up in Weslaco the places to eat were Whataburger, Broncos and My Place. As a teenager one of the favorite spots was Keno Cafe ( hamburger basket plain, no vegetables and an iced tea ).
I didn't enjoy lettuce, tomatoes and onions on a Whataburger until I had been on a diet for several months in Harlingen, Texas. The burger tasted so good.
Another great episode. I really enjoy watching Texas Bucket List I can't wait go to all places and eat food I'm seeing on this show. Thank you for another great episode Shane.
Those lonches looks so good. I'm from Weslaco but we have not been there. One of my sister's send me the video n saw it, maybe when I go to Weslaco we will be there,
Lonches are basically bolillo sandos from Northern Mexico. Very common in the states of Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo Leon, and Durango. Except they're made with bolillo rolls instead of those tiny hot looking buns at Nana's. They also don't load 'em up with all that stuff. You choose the meat and they typically add lettuce, tomato, onions, guac, and jalapeños. It's very similar to a torta, if you will.
Es un lugar realmente increíble, no hay mejores loches que los de Nana’s y sus noches de mariachi son un verdadero sueño... felicidades por este excelente programa 👍🫶
Lonches where invented in Nvo progreso Mexico that’s why people drive all the way to nvo progreso people in the valley buy the bread from nvo progreso and bring it over to Texas a lot of places sell lonches in the valley they are called lonches progreso style but they mean progreso Mexico not Texas
Born in the RGV, military took me to many scenic places around the world, like Vietnam. Stayed in San Diego since '72, but I sure miss the food in South Texas.
To be honest I live in weslaco and I've been there its more of an American style food! you can get better for from a street vendor I don't agree at all with this video
I've always seen the Progreso Luncheones, as a mini tortas. Picadio is TexMex version of Taco Bell. Best Torta I ever had was Asian part of Atlanta.- Bufford Hwy. Everything is written in Spanish, Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese. Korean joint where the whole menu is written in Korean. BBQ Pork Sandwich is how you would order it. Bollo hard cust bread (like you find in CDMX). Inside it had a butter inside pork long cut shoe string carrot and jicama. Bad ass Sandwich.
I think lonches were originally made only in Nuevo Progreso, Mexico. When I was a kid about 45-50 years ago, my parents would take us across to Nuevo Progreso from Texas and street vendors would sell lonches like the ones in this video. The owners of Nana's are originally from Nuevo Progreso.
People only go for the music because honestly the food is bad. We went for a birthday party and service was slow and food was cold. I don't know how you guys ended up there but it's a big 👎 for me. Sunrise in weslaco is over hyped as well the food is ok but not worth going.
went for brunch, was greeted by the host very friendly. server stoped to get the drinks order then never saw her again, had to get up n find someone, second server took our order got the orders wrong when I pointed out it was the wrong type of coffee - server was bother by it, made it seem that it was my mistake even though he was the one the recommended the cafe 3 leches. food was also wrong did not feel comfortable pointing it out - so just left it at that n paid the bill. liked the restaurant not the service - if u don‘t mind eating what they bring you regardless of what u order then this is the place for u.

Yes I like Texas bucket list videos, from the imperial co California.
San Diego Imperial Beach California???
Imperial County east of San Diego County. Kind of like a mini Rio Grande Valley.
THEY LOOK DELICIOUS !!!!!!!!

🥇
Awesome 👌🆒️
😋😋😋
Pasamos una noche incrible de mariachi y efectivamente sus lonches son unicos ❤
🤤
Wanna try
I grew up in weslaco, and the next I visit the valley ,I'm going to stop and taste y'all food
You can’t smell the cilantro or the seasonings. All you can smell is the grease from the bread. But they are decent tasting.
