Willoughby Garbage

- I managed to get this footage back in January 2020 when I travelled down to Sydney for some well earned holidays, it was roughly five years or so since I had travelled down to Sydney so I was glad to be back. I was staying in the Willougby area so on the Thursday I managed to track a truck down after a tip off from a mate and film my first JJ Richards garbage truck in action. I was reasonably impressed in the truck, simple or even spartan like controls compared to the modern Bucher and Superior Pak bodies which have now moved onto touch screen control interface systems but it worked well. These JJ's bodies always remind me a little of the old MacDonald Johnston MkIII's with their curved hoppers. Weirdly even though Suez's Artarmon transfer station is well inside the Willoughby City Council boundaries, Willoughby have done a contract with Veolia to tip off the garbage which means that the garbage trucks have to travel across the harbour to Botany to tip their loads at Veolia's Botany transfer station, money must talk with councils... Hope you enjoy this video, it was certainly different filming and seeing southern trucks again compared to just seeing the usual Brisbane City/Suez trucks.

Was stoked to see this finally show up, an awesome watch, cool seeing how everything looks from the outside for a change :D How about the grabber when it's up in the air, half new/white and half old/filthy. Was pretty keen to see how this footage came out and I reckon you put together a damn nice video! Cheering that you caught this truck in one of the good areas where the side loading job is pretty easygoing - probably not so entertaining in the suburbs where I'm frequently jumping out to retrieve bins or extending the slide at full reach for each and every lift. Nervous I was going to knock over one of those bins in that line up too, but I escaped failure in front of a worldwide audience here haha Congrats on uploading your first Richards video too!!! :P
Cheers Mitch, glad you enjoyed it, I've got more than enough footage for a second video too which I'll work on down the track. I have to say I never noticed the grabber until you mentioned it hahaha. Glad I came out on the Thursday, was nice to see a totally different area and type of truck, I remember finally finding the truck and you didn't recognise me at first. Definitely was a good experience for my first Richards truck, I always liked these particular bodies, you can just see a bit more action that's going on compared to the old design. I don't think I got any bins being knocked over so you where nice and smooth. Just a bummer I wasn't able to come down again at Easter for a second Dino shift.

Haha it was meant to be a secret 😜. It was a nice area especially near the golf course.
