  • You will need, paper towels, paper or washable surface, water in a cup or two and scissors.
    1. Protect your surface- I use butcher paper. Anything that could be cleaned or disposed of is perfect. Unwrap the wood from saran wrap. I carefully use scissors to cut it off. Make sure you have all the pieces before placing the scrap in the garbage. Plastic wrap needs to be disposed of away from children asap, it can be a hazard! Really littles don’t need to help, take some YOU time! However, the paints and stains are all water based. And they wash up easily.
    2. Wipe wood if needed using damp paper towels, be careful several pieces are fragile until glued into place!
    3. Choose paint colors- you may use this guide or be creative with the colors I sent you! The background is where I would start. I choose to stain this background, the stain is a water base stain and sent strong so add water, about a tablespoon or 2 depending on the darkness you want. I used the stain for the background on this one and LOVE IT! You could leave it plain wood or you could try the rustic look like I show in the video link you received via email. The rustic look is shown on the bike DIY kit you may find it on our FB group. The video link also gives a few other tricks! Speaking of Facebook, -share a photo of your completed work for a chance to WIN a FREE kit! I also stained the top of the hive and bees, I sent black paint with this kit and those items would be very pretty black! I used the black paint to place my C and Crum on the hive, I like it! If you want to try write your letters or design in pencil first then paint. I will say the black paint on the stain is not very forgiving. Wait for the stain to dry before your try this!
    4. After all your painted items are dry, lay them out where you would like them. Then use the small brush and the G (glue) to glue all the pieces in place. *Sometimes pieces of wood warp or bend with moisture in the air and when we add wet paint. If this happens use a heavy object on top to hold the item down until the glue dries. A clean dry mug with water inside works great!
    5. Attach hanger and/or bow. I am still learning how to make bows; I promise I'm trying! However, the video shows you how to make 3 different "bows" that are super easy, and I think are totally cute! I choose my favorite bow for this simple DIY hanger because it adds such a fun look! I call it my scrapy bow, but I promise I didn't send you scraps! HA! Find the video for this bow and a couple other ideas on the video link. Keep in mind though, this is ALL about YOU being creative. So make it yours!
Enjoy the new door hanger YOU just CREATED! I can't wait to see it!
