    That's a great-sounding filter! Really enjoyed your explanations of what you're doing - super clear and easy to follow. Subscribed!

    I love how woody that timbre around 10:50 is. Sounds so cool, almost like a tongue drum or a small marimba. Super nice, gonna try patching out something like this with what I have here. Thanks for the inspiration!

      Thanks, glad you like it! Yeah, I love those kind of marimba/acoustic drum-type tones - I find it really interesting making these sounds without a conventional VCA/envelope or even an LPG. There’s something quite special about the tone and shape of the filter pings!

      @@EightsEverywhere just use the regular audio input, and excite it with a trigger or busrt of noise through a really short envelope, with the resonance right up. I only use software modular (VCV mainly), but Hainbach did this with a Moogerfooger phaser I think.

      @@VirtualModular interesting I'll check it out I just got an AJH Synth Next Phase which has two inputs and maybe that is what they where thinking the second input could be used for

      @@EightsEverywhere I hadn't seen that module before, just googled it and it looks great! But I don't think you could 'ping' one input whilst processing the other input with a different sound. Looks like the inputs are mixed together, it's just in case you want to run two sound sources through it at once, or you can also use the two inputs for psuedo-stereo processing.

    That vari Q sounds lovely. It might need attenuation when patching cv (-2.5/2.5 voltage range I believe). But this video might have convinced me to build one myself. Great choice of modules also!

    • @TomChurchill
      @TomChurchill Рік тому +1

      Thanks! Pretty sure the VCQ input actually expects 0-5V - the build guide says "The module is a faithful implementation of the original Serge circuit designed for Serge voltage [...] white = CV / unipolar 0-5V"
      But actually now I think of it, that probably explains why the VCF input was so sensitive when I patched bipolar audio into it! I'll need to try attenuating and offsetting to 0-5V and see how that sounds.
      Anyway, I can recommend it as a build - nice and easy, well spaced PCB, and still in stock at Thonk at the moment ;)

    For the past couple weeks or so, Ive been putting modules exactly into different cases as you shared. And I came across this video because I am trying to understand how / if Step 8 could work with and without my vector Five12. Id like to get away from programming sequences but I do enjoy the ease of creating notes and gates using the knobs on the Five12. The only ting I setup in the sequencer is what scale I want to use and then I can mute and unmute each step and dial in what note value I want per step or use the global knob to either change octaves or change every note at once. Outside of the Five12, I have the pico quant but Im not a fan of the interface. Do you have any quantizers you enjoy?

    • @TomChurchill

      I built a Kassutronics quantizer kit because I really like the hands-on interface: store.kassutronics.net/eurorack-diy-c-1/quantizer-p-1
      If you don't want to do DIY, you could maybe try something like the Intellijel Scales? I really like having dedicated buttons to turn notes on and off, but I also use Ornament and Crime a lot which has a bit more menu-diving...

      @@TomChurchill Thanks for the link. After I sent my message, I went out looking at quantizer modules. I felt like they were either too pricey or as you said, not engaging for changes. I bought a used ALM ASQ and going to give it a try. Its obviously bigger, but I think I will like having that bigger keyboard. I know enough theory to program scales and or relative scales. Have you tried the Harmonaig? It would be nice to have something that can do more than just spit out basics.

      No, it’s just out of the case at the moment, temporarily. I need to get some sort of bigger case solution at some point, but right now I’m just using a couple of smaller cases and changing things up pretty regularly.
