    Looking back you see why Derek gets a little more mad and a little more physical than everyone else when it comes to the unsubs that hurt kids.

    I don’t think shemar gets his acting credits enough 😂 when I first saw this episode YEARS ago I remember having chills all up my spine in the end scene with Carl. When Derek said “well it wasn’t for free was it” the anguish and disparity in his face is so real. Love criminal minds

    I feel like Derek never said or did anything until now concerning Carl because he was denying his own trauma and obviously there was shame attached to it as well. it's hard to admit something like that happened to you. Plus think of Derek's persona and look, star quarterback, strong, handsome and intelligent . That kind of person shouldn't be a victim. But of course that doesn't mean anything. He was also likely felt confused or guilty because he didn't fight back or stop him, which adds on more shame. So yeah I'm sure he tried to leave that all in the past. Such a great episode, can't wait for more! Great reaction as always.

    • @ashleydavis2124
      @ashleydavis2124 Рік тому +33

      U said it how I would yup sadly this is how a lot of victims feel

    • @Blaize24
      @Blaize24 Рік тому +50

      Thank you. The snap judgement here was annoying. Victims internalize the shame and the blame, and pretend it didn't happen.

    • @charlierayed
      @charlierayed Рік тому +28

      Yep. And i think a lot of victims believe that it was there fault and so they're the only one it happened to.

    • @sarah4hp
      @sarah4hp Рік тому +29

      Yeah... I think that until he was faced with a current victim and realized the price of his silence he probably had himself convinced that it wouldn't do any good, that it was in the past and too long ago to matter legally, that he was keeping an eye on the youth center to make sure everything was okay etc. to allow himself to escape from the trauma. But when he realized that it was hurting other kids for Carl to keep a position of authority and leadership because that had allowed him to keep sexually abusing other vulnerable young men the way he abused Derek he had to do something. And he did it even though it was clearly insanely painful and far above what he felt ready to disclose to anyone, which I think took a huge amount of courage and strength.

    this episode is so good because it also makes Morgan’s rage (of course everyone hates them but Morgan is just PISSED) towards the child predators earlier in the show SO much more impactful, as a victim of CSA this episode and this side of Morgan means so much to me, thank you for all the great reactions, i always get excited when i see you posted

    This episode just kills me. when Derek's hurting it really just makes me upset.
    But I like how they did it, showing him struggling to deal with the trauma and that it took him some time to finally confront the situation. But I especially like how Derek talks to the kids because it's like talking to the viewers.... so if there was anyone dealing with a trauma or situation like this, maybe they could take something from the episode to try to help them heal.

  • @annaschwirian7548

    Trauma like Derek went through scars a person. Plus you always worry people will say it's your fault. When he became a cop the only proof he had was his own testimony which would count for little. People like beuford are manipulators who know how to control kids. If you think about it there was probably 20+ kids he did this to and none of them ever spoke up or did anything to him. Sadly it happens more frequently then anyone wants to admit.

    • @LoveableNiki
      @LoveableNiki Рік тому +6

      Statue of limitation was likely up by the time he became an agent.
      It's likely that the kids all thought they were the only ones it was happening to...so sad. I always refer to this as "Derek's Episode".

    This episode very much surprised me, back when i first watched it. not that stuff like that is happening, it's unfortunately far too real and happens far too often irl, but that they decided to have derek deal with this out of all people. he isn't really the type of character those type of things usually happen to. it didn't happen to the shy, somewhat antisocial loner. no, it happened to the big, strong, charismatic -for a lack of a better term- jock of the group. this episode challenges your preconceptions of what a victim of abuse looks like and reminds us that this type of stuff can happen to anyone. respect to the show for that.

    I understand why Morgan stayed quiet going through it you feel shameful specially with someone who is out on a pedestal and you think no one would believe you until something shakes you.

    One of my fav episodes of Season 2 but ngl I was kinda mad at first at some of the remarks the team made , like Hotch and the "suspect" line. But, I have to remember the nature of their job and give them the benefit of the doubt mostly.

    Logan the reason Morgan didn’t say anything at any point, is because when guys are sexually assaulted, they tend to be more ashamed about what happened to them then women typically are.

    The "rocket" scene is actually what sold me on Prentis. I love how she's not even mad and I love how excited she was for a physics rocket experiment in that moment. I love how it made me feel the potential kinship for Reid. I actually think the way people deal with Reid on this show is a bit of a litmus for me. I love him, other characters don't always get him and at this point in the show he sort of feels like the precious baby of the team to me.

      And I realize that this is the awesome Derek episode but here I am going on about Prentis and Reid... It's just... everyone is already saying all the things I would want to say about Derek. The scene I mentioned is just this small moment in a greater episode that does something for me and I needed to share.
