@P. Taylor It does. Playing a conglomeration of metal and blues with a huge influx of Prog rock in both my bands... I need a bass that is clear, heavy sounding and yet has warmth. Mine have it all. I do use a Ibanez six string bass and a Chapman Stick on some songs, but 90% all I need are my gibbies.
I like the style of those thunderbird basses but I'm not crazy about the all black and those pups don't sound good to me. They sound normal but on a bass they don't have that low bass growl that I like. I have an ex wife I will trade you for this bass, ya interested Austin? Lol..

Weird the Nikki 6 has a set neck, I almost bought the Ironbird ( Epi model) when I was shopping for a bass to add to my collection. Ironbird had a set neck. When I moved to my new apartment I broke my leg so my family moved all my stuff for me... Was a bit pissed off to find they threw out all my guitar boxes 🤷🏼♂️ "It's just cardboard!"... Now I had to wait until I bought more guitars to sell some other ones because I don't want to tape a bunch of smaller boxes together

If you can find an explorer bass I'd suggest it over the thunderbird. With the smaller headstock there aren't any neck dive at least with my experience. lighter tuners also help.

Played one of these once when I was desperate for a cheap(ish) bass to gig with. HORRIBLE instrument. One of the all-time worst instruments I have ever played. The Gothic Epiphone Thunderbird is MUCH better. I like Thunderbirds in general, and maybe I played a lemon, but it was so, so bad. Bought a Traben instead, still my favourite bass even though it was really cheap. Outplays my old Soundgear and beats my G&L L2500 as well.
Sounds sweet. Tone / volume controls would have been cool, as well as a choice of colored finishes. But, still, it's a good meat and potatoes bass. FANTASTIC clean up job.
Mine is modded to have both a tone and pickup blend controls. No volume though, so have to remember to use the pedal to cut it. Love the variety of sounds I can get from it.

It's pitiful when you build a bass that sucks so bad you have to add a bracket to the bridge for your pinky to make it playable. Can you not build a balanced instrument? You're Gibson for fucks sake. Really? 7 million for a guitar and you can't balance it? That giant slab of wood and it's NECK heavy? I can only imagine what they were paying him to play this turdbird.
So wish this artist models, when they are lower quality than what an artist plays, for example the fact this has a bolt on neck. The mfg gives the artist a choice. Make a more expensive guitar that less ppl can afford, or make a less expensive guitar more ppl can afford. Ultimately the decision is up to the artist. When lower quality models come out, it's generally because the artist feels he can make more money that way.
I own the Gibson version of it. It's beat and has a lot of stories showing but it still plays great, especially since I got rid of the shitty bridge and added a hipshot.
I still find it funny that Rob Baker traded off one of those Danelectro '84 lipstick pickup guitars that the company was giving out as promotion to loads of you tubers a few months ago!
I'm fortunate enough to own both the blackbird aswell as the cherry red thunderbird of Nikki (both Gibson) both with original cases. The cherry one in MINT condition aswell as it's case. The blackbird however is my "beast" beat up, gets played every day. Both of them amazing basses! Would love to send em over for you to document.. But I'm sitting here in Germany.. You've probably come to the realization that the ghost image of 'relic' or whatever it is, is not residue but actual chemical alteration of the the blackbird's outer coating. It would take some heavy duty wrangling to fix that. I imagine you've seen regular old adhesive tape leave permanent marks elsewhere. It's sorta cool in that it's a great way to identify it.
now its my time hahaha love the Thunderbird, this is nice, i thought it have Leds in the inlay dot but it was the light haha you know what i do with my cracks, if they didnt hit the wood, i mean if the crack dosnt show the wood, you can use the thiner paper sand with water polish nicely, then add 2 or 3 caps of car wax haha thats a trick i learn working with cars, then i used with my guitars lol have fun with the bass trog!

Hmm, with all the dings and gouges, I wouldn’t call this “good” condition at all. Fair is as high as I’d go.

Make a more expensive guitar that less ppl can afford, or make a less expensive guitar more ppl can afford. Ultimately the decision is up to the artist. When lower quality models come out, it's generally because the artist feels he can make more money that way.
I own the Gibson version of it. It's beat and has a lot of stories showing but it still plays great, especially since I got rid of the shitty bridge and added a hipshot.

I'm fortunate enough to own both the blackbird aswell as the cherry red thunderbird of Nikki (both Gibson) both with original cases. The cherry one in MINT condition aswell as it's case. The blackbird however is my "beast" beat up, gets played every day.

You've probably come to the realization that the ghost image of 'relic' or whatever it is, is not residue but actual chemical alteration of the the blackbird's outer coating. It would take some heavy duty wrangling to fix that. I imagine you've seen regular old adhesive tape leave permanent marks elsewhere.
It's sorta cool in that it's a great way to identify it.
now its my time hahaha love the Thunderbird, this is nice, i thought it have Leds in the inlay dot but it was the light haha you know what i do with my cracks, if they didnt hit the wood, i mean if the crack dosnt show the wood, you can use the thiner paper sand with water polish nicely, then add 2 or 3 caps of car wax haha thats a trick i learn working with cars, then i used with my guitars lol have fun with the bass trog!
next one should be lower priced epiphone to gibson les paul standard or a cheap squier strat to mia strat. would love to see that trade
