I just see a crash as listening to my body and rest. Absolutely no point stressing as this wastes energy and triggers the nervous system. Then overthinking. !!!
Stay is the moment. Accept then when you feel better and rested. Then start recovery again. Calm your mind with meditation. Tapping. Then you will gently recover from the crash...I am in a crash or reboot at the moment. But getting better each day. Just go with it. Dont fight it.

  • @sandrawheeler1521

Totally agree Toby. I have been in this situation. The overthinking , never helps. Yes just stop trying, rest. Meditate. Go into your heart. Listen to your body. If it wants rest let it. We all need a break from trying to fix ourselves. We just have to be present. Rest, calm the mind and bervous system down. Reduce our conflict just be in the moment in peace....then after a rest. We will pick up again. Listen to your body. Dont push against it. Your body is working for you not against you...
Cfs happens for a reason.many reasons. Stops our body fuctioning. Why to protect ourselves from self destruction. Because we were not listening to the warnings our body was giving us before cfs hit. !!
Cfs gives us the time to heal, mind body and soul. To reflect what caused our body to shut down. To learn the lessons its taught us. Then as we recover to change our way of life to a much less conficted, stressed, pressurised one! Healthier and happier life. Xxx

What helps me is to stay in the present moment. So I'm "a woman in bed resting," instead of a "sick woman who has been sick for 31 years and will probably never get well and then what will become of me and my family and I hate having no life and never will etc. etc." In other words, I sit with whatever I'm feeling, good or bad. Don't get too excited when things go my way which helps me to not get too down when they don't. Stop struggling and just surrender to the reality of whatever is happening in the moment and know that whatever it is, it will change. All of this is from my Buddhist training and it takes practice. Sometimes it doesn't work and I get upset and depressed and angry--so then I have to accept that too and have compassion for myself. Another thing that helps is recognizing that I have no idea what will happen next--called beginner's mind or open mind--and need to stop projecting into the future. No past, no future, just be here now. Hope that helps.

thank you esther, that does help. so many of us are such strong thinker/doer/fixer type people and as toby said here, we can't think our way out of this one. and it's a challenge (for me) to let go of that old way of being and living. i appreciate your sharing. xoxo

I'm in a massive crash now. The big problem is psychology. At the beginning I reduced but nowhere near enough. I've learned I have to really do " less is more". It's difficult, I can't even listen to music, still lots of demands on me. Very scary. But what I've learnt after 8 years is that when I eventually stop trying to build up that I recover much more quickly than seems possible in the crash. I should add that I still try to ensure I don't lie down too long. I try to potter around then rest. Thanks for everything Toby and team. Without you I'd be dead.

I was in a really big crash for 2 years now, and it’s so frustrating cause as your speaker, Im doing everything I can, and a couple years ago I completely healed for about 3 years. It made me think I have some control and that by doing the right combination of things, I can heal whenever I want. But it’s not always that simple. Relax is a great start, thanks Toby for reminding me that. Sometimes it’s the best thing you can do.

Poem to keep us going, its helped me at hard times.
    Dont Quit ❤..
When things go wrong as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all up hill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but don't you quit.
Life is strange with its twists and turns
As every one of us sometimes learns
And many a failure comes about
    When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Don't give up though the pace seems slow-
You may succeed with another blow.
Success is failure turned inside out-
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell just how close you are,
    It may be near when it seems so far;
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit-
It's when things seem worst that you must not quit

Toby, I love the way you take the pressure off. We CFS'rs always tend to put more pressure on ourselves. I was worried a recovery/coaching program was going to be so "rah rah" motivational that it might add to my stress level, but it's just the opposite! I'm in the nutrition module of your program right now, and even that has taken pressure off me. I don't have to do my nutrition perfectly, just be sensible and do what gives me energy and makes me feel better. Thank you! ❤️

This rings so true for me I feel like I think about what the answer is from the minute I get up every day and I over think everything especially when I'm bed ridden. I know it doesn't help but can barely ever relax now thinking about every little thing and wondering how I can get better and when it will be.

most days I crash, feel terrible most days tried everything of advise got so much pain and very sore tendons that's one of the reasons my Achilles fully snapped in 2000. i pave myself as can't find anyone to help me with general chores which feel just do overwhelming. 😧 had to move house 16 times can't do it again but this house in in is not owned but is too much for me.i need a one bedroom bungalow but there aren't any available here in uk.i have to pay £700 per yr for an extra bedroom tax as my son use to live with me and I wanted a house instead of a flat as the one bed flats are in horrible dangerous areas. at least this house is better than being in a bedsit or flat in a bad area.thanks for this vid.

That was so helpful Toby, thank you. It's exactly what's happened to me. I'm finding by accepting where I am at the moment I can slowly creep up again, although it's frustrating I do think acceptance is a key thing. And nurturing ourselves with joyful things no matter how small. You're such an encouragement & so good of you to share these videos. All practical, sound advice in simple terms.

I agree with what you're saying, Toby. I pushed myself in work last month for 2 weeks and I've been in a flare up ever since. So I'm just resting as much as I can and I'm trying to patient with my body. I know you said there's no fixed way to feel better but is there a way to avoid crashing in the first place?

    Summary
Don't try so hard.. just breathe and just live. Just do want you feel like, chill out, rest when you feel like it, do the things you love which you can and put your favourite music on.
Get out of our head; things don't have to be so rigid. Don't overcomplicate it - stress about the situation makes it worse.
    Simplify and move forwards..

Wtf. I will never stop looking for answer. Otherwise i could just end living. In my case for many years its been getting worse to the point im bed patient 23/7. There is meds what may not heal u fully, but even slightly improvement would be life changer. Just gotta find and get that before its too late.

sorry i don't have anyone else i can ask. I am in the midst of my worst downturn ever after a road trip, unable to drive at all. it is now 2 months ago but i keep getting worse and worse. every day try to keep calm and relax, but the disease is limiting more and more until it is impossible to live and overcome the downturn. I get seizures with muscle cramps and choking feeling if anyone is in my room. do not tolerate any contact with anyone at all. How to get up again.

    • @magnoliasummer3616

I can relate. I’ve experienced feeling super judgy about myself when in a crash. I think anger is part of grief and loss.... lashing out at myself or the world as CFS is so unfair and the frustration surrounding the losses of what I used to be capable of doing - personally and professionally. You’re not a snowflake.... you are raging against the limitations CFS causes. I’m there too. I miss my pre-CFS life. We don’t deserve this. It takes guts to manage this .... but manage it we will to get the best quality of life possible and stop the burn and crash cycle. We’re in the struggle together. ❤️
