The reason I love Halloween is because, everything else aside, it’s about good vs. evil at its core. Michael’s return to Haddonfield represents “fate”, as that dialogue from Laurie’s English teacher foreshadows. Laurie is innocent, Michael is darkness....Loomis is essentially the hero....and they were all destined to meet anyway. Gives ,me chills just thinking of it like that, but that’s the feeling I get. Anyway, awesome review, as always. Your passion for it is amazing.
Every Halloween since i could remember my mom and my sibling and i would all gather in front of the tv and watch the Halloween Movie Marathon on AMC. Micheal Myers will always be my FAVORITE ALWAYS

I'm actually a big proponent of the idea that Laurie was never the main target. Annie was. Although he did initially start following Laurie around, and the child, he never really makes any attempt to harm them initially. The first overtly aggressive action he takes is when he breaks his car when Annie shouts at him; that seemed to trigger him. And on the night of Halloween, it's Annie that he's stalking, it's her that he kills first, it's her that he puts on the bed with his sister's headstone as if he's trying to use her to recreate that first kill. He spends much more of the movie stalking Annie around than he does Laurie; after his initial curiosity with Laurie was satisfied, much like Jamie, he didn't appear to care about her anymore. The other people he kills just happen to be people who made the mistake of coming into the house. And he didn't make any attempt kill Laurie until she came to the house too, at which point he started chasing her. She was never the primary target at all; we're just led to think she is because the movie is being told from her point of view. Obviously, the brother/sister garbage kind of scuppers that. But in the context of the original movie, it makes sense.
I loved the story you told about Halloween 6, when you went downstairs, and told your family that it was your favourite movie in the series, and they basically didn't care. It sounds like something I would have done as a kid.

Finally saw this film for the first time over the weekend. I always saw clips on tv when I was younger, but never saw the whole thing. I really enjoyed it. Looking forward to part 2.
I love how you can view this and almost sense that Loomis knows more about Michael than anyone else. Almost as if something paranormal at work that Loomis was witness to which makes him so compelling and how his passion is overwhelming as Marion says.
I was 4 when I fell in love with Michael Myers. After watching "Halloween" I had no need for Freddy or Jason. It began with Michael and stopped with Michael. ❤
Halloween is my favorite as well. I know that I don’t find it frightening anymore but my nephew walked in on me watching it once. It was the part where Michael is walking across the street and Laurie is trying to get Tommy to come to the door. My nephew made me put on something else immediately. With CGI and people becoming so desensitized to violence these days I honestly did not think a guy walking across the street with a mask on would scare him so much. This movie is iconic and will hold up forever.
That is the part that scared the crap out of me as a kid. I was genuinely scared by this movie because it was NOT some fantasy crap like Freddy or even Jason the walking corpse. This was a real guy who looked normal. His face scared me watching the film.
Michael Myers is my favorite overall. The original Halloween will always be the best. Very excited for the new Halloween. Agreed about the young age. I personally grew up on the Scream franchise..love that sh*t.
I was 8 years old. My neighbor who babysat my sis and I rented horror VHS' when the folks went out. Halloween made such a huge impression on me...to make movies. I am a musician now, but man...did Halloween show us how to do lighting right. It taught us suspense, atmosphere and storytelling. Carpenter made a classic and that was not lost on me at age 8. Don't worry, I was this close to being law enforcement that all those "worries" family had about me being into horror was sure a bullshit redhearing. I am the saint of this family if anything...it was my cousins who had criminal records, cheat on their wives...in a sense are total douchbags. But that was supposed to be us horror fans. Great video. I hope Carpenter see's it.
You're very right about horror fans usually getting into the stuff when they're young. That's what happened to me for Halloween, which is the first horror movie I loved too
My first horror movie was Halloween,I watched it on TV when I was probably 6 or 7.I watched Halloween 2 on TV when I was 10.That was a Halloween staple for years,come home from the school Halloween carnival and watch the last hour of Halloween 2 on channel 16.
I think Myers chooses Laurie because she came up to his door, and because seeing her and Tommy reminded him of him and his sister, which he then imparts on Laurie. I think that's why they included the scene where Myers watches Tommy after school.
My son , also watched this every night on a VCR tape as well: my son who was scared of everything could be found watching by himself in our dark basement. He was around 7 years old. I’m sure I am the one who introduced it as the best scary movie ever.
I went to see Halloween at 7 years old in 1978 and I’ve been attached to this since. It has actually caused problems with my GF cuz she says it’s not normal to like Myers this much! I totally agree with you on Loomis, I could listen to him read a phone book! Halloween is a perfect movie!
Man, what an evolution this film has been for us and the horror genre. It gave us one of horror's popular icons, it kickstarted the slasher craze of the 80's, and people are still watching this film 40 years later. I was at least twelve when I first saw this film. I instantly fell in love with it. Without this film, I wouldn't be the horror fanatic I am today; and I probably wouldn't meet cool people like you. We both love horror movies and can relate to each other's opinions on what we like and what we don't like. You're a really cool guy and I love your reviews. Ya still got the mask? I was 11 years old, I was the only kid on the Block that had HBO in his room, stumbled across Halloween one night .... changed my life forever. And then came Phantasm... Ohhhhh boy... that shifted it into overdrive
Yes, Phantasm as well. These two movies really captured my imagination and had deep affects. To me they made these two movies very realistically. How people would act if a real supernatural event was occuring to them.

Also totally again in agreement with you, about watching scary movies when you're really young. I grew up with 2 brothers, and i remember clearly being scared shitless to tz, psycho, etc........when i was probably about 4, maybe 5. And i too grew up loving the genre.
Same story, Halloween & Michael Myers got me into horror at the age of 6..Halloween is my #1 horror/slasher film of all time..I'm glad to see another love & passion of this movie..H2 was great also in my eyes...some are not great but the Halloween Franchise will always be my #1 favorite 🎃🎃🎃
What a treat to watch someone who loves a film this much!!! Yes i watched the whole video... you nailed almost everything i was thinking. The one moment no one mentions, when Michael is coming down the stairs!!! And the piano work in the soundtrack!! Very scary till this day!!! I remembera local theater had to call an ambulance because someone had a heart attack while watching HALLOWEEN!!! SO here is a recommendation: (or two) Go watch Once Upon A Time In The West.. and The Ninth Configuration! Then do reviews of them!! Peace
I really like and agree on your statement at the end. It stays with you, and you feel "he's still out there!" That's exactly the way I felt after watching it almost for a couple of days. Is he watching in a corner, is he following, or is he just around the turn. Talk about a guy who haunts you when you're awake and asleep. Lol. I swear I slept walk and thought I was fighting Michael. LOL. I love it, but I haven't watched it in a while. I don't know maybe because I remember those feelings, or because scenes or things about it that just seem too dated for me to like. It's definitely my 2nd favorite horror.
I grew up near a video rental store as a kid and they gave us box sets for halloween, F13, nightmare on elm street super early, Mikey is my favourite and I always related to the cable guy too..
Hey...don't know if someone mentioned this but when Annie and Laurie are almost near the hedge with Myers standing beside it there is a scene when the camera is filming the girls and you can see 2 guys standing on a porch of the house behind them. Also when Annie is talking to Laurie at the hedge you can see cigarette smoke from Carpenter in the scene. This is my fave horror movie as well and the music is the best, I have the Halloween theme as my ringtone!!! Scares people all the time lol. Take care man🎃🎃
To me, the ending, hearing Michael's breathing, meaning he could be anywhere, followed by Michael just wandering through the neighborhoods of Haddonfield and just not even killing anyone, not even the elderly, no one just the teenager across the yard, Michael just killed 1 person, the fact that Michael didn't kill anyone in the neighborhood but 1 person, is terrifying (in Halloween 2). Michael could've killed everyone in Haddonfield, but he didn't. Why do we love these films? Good character work, great actors/actresses, great script, a great atmosphere, characters you just root for to make it to the end, and the terrifying score. Why do I love the original Trilogy of Star Wars? Great characters, great character arc, great story building, fantastic tension, and the score brings it all together. Rarely have I seen movies millions of times to the point to where I can think of a specific music cue and remember the dialogue and the scene right off the bat. Star Wars and the first 2 Halloween movies are the only films that I can remember right off the bat from the score.

Gotta say your comments about your early years resonated so much with me cos it was basically the same as my early years aswell. Sitting infront on the tv watching film after film, my mam not really realising or maybe even caring what i was watching even though the titles should of been a giveaway hahaha. Death wish, mad max, the last hunter, death race 2000 & the exterminator were some of the 1st films i ever seen on video but it was the horror films that were always my favourite. & your totally right about us horror fans starting out really young, we seem to find our way & true love for genre long before any other kinda genre fans. I remember in the 70's watching the hammer house of horrors as well as the hammer films on tv as well as old universal films etc but when we got a video, wow man! Thats when my life completely exploded, watching zombie flesheaters, dawn of the dead, cannibal ferox etc. Great times. But for some reason i always had to watch halloween & halloween 2 over & over again, especially the 1st 1. That film was everything i wanted & needed in a film at that time. Because of that film i have spent a ridiculously unhealthy amount of time watching slasher films over the years. But it became a love & a passion that just like michael will never die. I was 5 years old in 1981 when I saw the original Halloween. I have been in love with the franchise since then. I saw Halloween II the following year. Things really got off track in the subsequent sequels but, in my eyes the original will always be the best horror movie ever made! I will always feel that way because even after 40 years the original still holds up. Carpenter is a master of suspense and this movie was terrifying even though there’s not much blood in it. I didn’t care for the brother/sister angle of Halloween II. The fact that there wasn’t a motive in the original made it so much more terrifying than the brother/sister thing. I love what you’re doing here my friend! Keep up the good work! Also, I’m with you on the whole Annie thing! I’ve always liked brunettes more than blondes Also, also I wanted to know what Charlie Bowles did as well!
As much as I liked Annie in this one I crushed hard on Danielle Harris as a kid in the later Halloween movies and especially when she played Melanie Monroe in an episode of Eerie, Indiana and it was great to see her in the remake as Annie but that just my oppinion
It's his mysterious ways and Erie daytime scenes that as a kid I knew the boogeyman was watching us. I was about 6 when I first seen h1 and never stoped watching it, it's the best👍👍
I have more than one Myers mask and I STILL do that weird shit where I put on the coveralls and mask and breath loud in the bushes here LOL. It is fun to channel the Shape.
This is also my favorite horror film of all time! I also loved how you mentioned that the brother sister thing from the 2nd one was maybe because of Empire Strikes Back. It seems so obvious it might be because of that. I also appreciate you pointed out things you didn't like about it as well, even with nostalgic eyes!

You know when I was a kid, Dr. Loomis was the annoying doctor that wore the same coat in every film. But as I got older I realized how good a character he was. This guy takes his responsibility for Michael, his lack of being able to reach him and the impact his patient has on society at large, very seriously.
I regret to say that I wasn't a massive fan of this movie when growing up. I always had it my collection vhs/dvd etc and kept revisiting it because of the legacy and love it gets but I personally never connected with it. Until now that is. I don't know what's happened but after my latest viewings, I totally get it now and I am now very close to moving this to my favourite horror movie and that would mean putting it above lifetime favourites.
Great video! I watched the whole thing. Love hearing people talk about Halloween. I started watching horror at a young age and Halloween was one of the first horror movies I ever saw. Later on in life, I started collecting movies and when VHS was all the rage, the first VHS I purchased was Halloween 4. A week or so later I then bought Halloween (1978), Halloween 5 and Halloween 6 on VHS as well. So those four movies were the first VHS tapes I ever owned. Now all these years later, I now collect DVDs and Blu-rays and have over 1,200 movies in my collection. Halloween is what got me into horror and is also responsible for making me a movie collector.
I have not done a complete collection video on my channel (yet) but I probably will be doing a video covering my collection soon. By the way (on the opening of Halloween II) did you ever notice that Loomis shot Myers 7 times even though he used a 6-shot revolver? Continuity error. LOL.

I actually saw this in the movie theater in 1978 with my cousin. it was too good and nothing had come out to match it before. It got me hooked on John Carpenter and Jaime Lee Curtis. Oh to be young and to experience this movie for the first time. I enjoy your channel because I love horror movies. And I enjoy your reviews.
I don’t remember when I first seen this my earliest memory of watching a horror film was walking out on my parents watching a nightmare on elm street 3 when it aired on hbo so I’m guessing I was 6 and the scene of Patricia running with the girl and hearing her say put me down your hurting me then the girls was just bones scared the shit out of me but then fell in love with the series for better or worse as a whole

My own story, I grew up in KC the first city it played in. I was in the 3rd grade and my friend told me about this movie his Dad took him to. His dad was a young father who parked his motorcycle in the living room, so taking an 8 year old to a horror movie wouldn't have been out of character. My friend was telling about this horrifying movie he saw and how in the end the killer couldn't be killed. I remember asking him questions about the movie but he could only tell me so much because he admitted that he had closed his eyes for much of it. LOL. I didn't think about it much after. But a few years later I went to another friends house whose parents were away and we watched Halloween on HBO. I was not allowed to see rated R movies and I had assured by parents I wouldn't. But after seeing it, I was so scared that I had to talk about it with my parents. It's good my Mom didn't get mad but after telling her the story I could see she got freaked out a little. LOL
I rewatched this last night after not watching it for years. I have to be honest I always found the film to be overrated... but after hearing you on your channel and drumdums I figured I should give it another shot. Because of the high praise and passion you have for this movie. I understand the personal love for the movie as I have some that are very close to my heart also. So I love your passion for your favourite movie. After watching it last night I enjoyed it way more than I remembered and omg some of the scenes are actually genuinely scary, I found the day time scenes in particular very effective and creepy. The score is incredible and the atmosphere is spot on. The scene where his mask comes of the dark really got me too. I was in my flat alone at the time and it’s been a while something in a horror movie got me. I prefer horror that doesn’t rely on jump scares and uses dread and tension. I don’t mind a jump scare occasionally if done right. But yeah, I have definitely changed my opinion on Halloween. Never disliked it. But I like it more after my rewatch it. Still not the best horror in my opinion but I can appreciate it being called that and I can see why others may think so. Also great reviews, I enjoy your videos and I’m having a tough time at the moment but I love horror movies to escape but your videos I’m also finding comfort in. So thank you. Watching the film last night for about the thirtieth time, I finally considered the scenario of Annie’s death in the garage and the locked/unlocked car door. So did Michael climb in the car, lock the doors, wait for her to try to get in, then unlock it while she went to get her keys? Did he know she would forget her keys? was there a strategic point for him to do this? It is a good teaser for the audience when she gets in and doesn’t notice, but did Carpenter and Hill think that through as a plot hole. You are always great at highlighting the absurd while appreciating the value of the film, I thought I would throw in something that hadn’t been breached yet.
He was following her. Saw she was definitely coming back to the car so he got in. Probably broke one of the windows or the passenger side was unlocked. This wouldn’t be too hard to explain away
Halloween is a well made, good looking suspense/ comic/ horror, but ... I don't know why, but it just doesn't work for me, for some reason. I've never understood the love for it. It's watchable, at best, for me. An alternative title could have been, Black Christmas, part 2, as it is very similar to Bob Clark's 1974 film, which is, in my mind, superior. Interesting observation on the slow response time from the Haddonfield PD. Finally, your early comments and nostalgia about Halloween mirror some of my thoughts and feelings toward Phantasm.
Yes to this entirely! I don't mind Halloween but it's the lesser when it comes to Black Christmas which for me easily usurps this film. Bob Clark was (is) one of the most underrated directors we ever had.
You mentioned wondering why we get into this...what about the movie hooks us. I also love this movie above all others. I love most of John Carpenter’s stuff. For me, it is the intimacy of the story. Most of his movies are stories that are set in a neighborhood or a town...small scale. The characters are relatable and likable, and when you are a kid that really resonates. Kids like it when you are real and honest, which these stories are. Anyway, that’s my reasoning for loving this movie :)
There are a few copies of 4 on eBay. The cheapest is $40. I paid $120 for the whole lot. I kind of jumped the gun and am hoping I didn’t overpay, but I’m excited regardless!
And to be fair to Black Christmas, 1974 - they did that steady cam, killer's point of view 1st. But the killer was not a child. John C has mentioned his influence from that film before too. Great movie..Halloween though, put the genre on the map. Period.

Michael eats dogs. Not a fan being a dog lover haha but it worked and truly portrayed Myers being an emotionless killer he is for me anyway. Yes killing people portrays this but for me the dog thing puts it over the top and adds something to Michael's evilness.

I totally agree with your comment at 8.00 regarding the tableau type shot of Michael with the knife and the parents just standing there. Director probably did it as you said for dramatic rather than realistic purposes, but what gets me every time that I find unforgivable and should have been flagged as it's such an obvious and terrible mistake, is that the mum at some point puts her hands in her pockets. Each time I see this I just cringe. Great movie, great director who probably was under pressure to get it all shot in the time frame, but this should have been seen. She looks like she's about to tell him off.

I think when Michael wears the sheet it try’s to capture the cat and mouse approach to his kill. Ya know where he , correction , it knows at any second he can kill her but gets the joy out of toying with his victims. This is all speculation tho
Do you have every version of the original Halloween on VHS, DVD, Blu Ray and now the 4K version? I am trying to determine which version to buy. I've heard that some of the versions enhanced the color too much (brightened it) while others made it darker (more gray), another version edited the PJ Soles nudity scenes so you don't see as much as the original release in 1978, etc. Which version of the movie do you think is truest (exactly the same) to the 1978 first run in theaters of the movie?
Star Blazers after panning I found your question. I personally prefer the original Blu Ray with the more vibrant colors but most prefer the 35th anniversary Blu Ray that was done by Dean Cundey. I think that Blu Ray come with the 4K. I think the 4K looks very similar to the 35th anniversary. I’d pick that up if you are looking for the 78 theater look

And on the night of Halloween, it's Annie that he's stalking, it's her that he kills first, it's her that he puts on the bed with his sister's headstone as if he's trying to use her to recreate that first kill. He spends much more of the movie stalking Annie around than he does Laurie; after his initial curiosity with Laurie was satisfied, much like Jamie, he didn't appear to care about her anymore.
The other people he kills just happen to be people who made the mistake of coming into the house. And he didn't make any attempt kill Laurie until she came to the house too, at which point he started chasing her. She was never the primary target at all; we're just led to think she is because the movie is being told from her point of view.
Obviously, the brother/sister garbage kind of scuppers that. But in the context of the original movie, it makes sense.

I love how you can view this and almost sense that Loomis knows more about Michael than anyone else. Almost as if something paranormal at work that Loomis was witness to which makes him so compelling and how his passion is overwhelming as Marion says.

Halloween is my favorite as well. I know that I don’t find it frightening anymore but my nephew walked in on me watching it once. It was the part where Michael is walking across the street and Laurie is trying to get Tommy to come to the door. My nephew made me put on something else immediately. With CGI and people becoming so desensitized to violence these days I honestly did not think a guy walking across the street with a mask on would scare him so much. This movie is iconic and will hold up forever.
That is the part that scared the crap out of me as a kid. I was genuinely scared by this movie because it was NOT some fantasy crap like Freddy or even Jason the walking corpse. This was a real guy who looked normal. His face scared me watching the film.
Michael Myers is my favorite overall. The original Halloween will always be the best. Very excited for the new Halloween.

I was 8 years old. My neighbor who babysat my sis and I rented horror VHS' when the folks went out. Halloween made such a huge impression on me...to make movies. I am a musician now, but man...did Halloween show us how to do lighting right. It taught us suspense, atmosphere and storytelling. Carpenter made a classic and that was not lost on me at age 8.
Don't worry, I was this close to being law enforcement that all those "worries" family had about me being into horror was sure a bullshit redhearing. I am the saint of this family if anything...it was my cousins who had criminal records, cheat on their wives...in a sense are total douchbags. But that was supposed to be us horror fans.

My first horror movie was Halloween,I watched it on TV when I was probably 6 or 7.I watched Halloween 2 on TV when I was 10.That was a Halloween staple for years,come home from the school Halloween carnival and watch the last hour of Halloween 2 on channel 16.
I think Myers chooses Laurie because she came up to his door, and because seeing her and Tommy reminded him of him and his sister, which he then imparts on Laurie. I think that's why they included the scene where Myers watches Tommy after school.
My son , also watched this every night on a VCR tape as well: my son who was scared of everything could be found watching by himself in our dark basement. He was around 7 years old. I’m sure I am the one who introduced it as the best scary movie ever.
I went to see Halloween at 7 years old in 1978 and I’ve been attached to this since. It has actually caused problems with my GF cuz she says it’s not normal to like Myers this much! I totally agree with you on Loomis, I could listen to him read a phone book! Halloween is a perfect movie!
Man, what an evolution this film has been for us and the horror genre. It gave us one of horror's popular icons, it kickstarted the slasher craze of the 80's, and people are still watching this film 40 years later. I was at least twelve when I first saw this film. I instantly fell in love with it. Without this film, I wouldn't be the horror fanatic I am today; and I probably wouldn't meet cool people like you. We both love horror movies and can relate to each other's opinions on what we like and what we don't like. You're a really cool guy and I love your reviews. What a treat to watch someone who loves a film this much!!! Yes i watched the whole video... you nailed almost everything i was thinking. The one moment no one mentions, when Michael is coming down the stairs!!! And the piano work in the soundtrack!! Very scary till this day!!! I remembera local theater had to call an ambulance because someone had a heart attack while watching HALLOWEEN!!!

I really like and agree on your statement at the end. It stays with you, and you feel "he's still out there!" That's exactly the way I felt after watching it almost for a couple of days. Is he watching in a corner, is he following, or is he just around the turn. Talk about a guy who haunts you when you're awake and asleep. Lol. I swear I slept walk and thought I was fighting Michael. LOL. I love it, but I haven't watched it in a while. I don't know maybe because I remember those feelings, or because scenes or things about it that just seem too dated for me to like. It's definitely my 2nd favorite horror.
I grew up near a video rental store as a kid and they gave us box sets for halloween, F13, nightmare on elm street super early, Mikey is my favourite and I always related to the cable guy too..
Hey...don't know if someone mentioned this but when Annie and Laurie are almost near the hedge with Myers standing beside it there is a scene when the camera is filming the girls and you can see 2 guys standing on a porch of the house behind them. Also when Annie is talking to Laurie at the hedge you can see cigarette smoke from Carpenter in the scene. This is my fave horror movie as well and the music is the best, I have the Halloween theme as my ringtone!!! Scares people all the time lol. Take care man🎃🎃
To me, the ending, hearing Michael's breathing, meaning he could be anywhere, followed by Michael just wandering through the neighborhoods of Haddonfield and just not even killing anyone, not even the elderly, no one just the teenager across the yard, Michael just killed 1 person, the fact that Michael didn't kill anyone in the neighborhood but 1 person, is terrifying (in Halloween 2). Michael could've killed everyone in Haddonfield, but he didn't. Why do we love these films? Good character work, great actors/actresses, great script, a great atmosphere, characters you just root for to make it to the end, and the terrifying score. Why do I love the original Trilogy of Star Wars? Great characters, great character arc, great story building, fantastic tension, and the score brings it all together. Rarely have I seen movies millions of times to the point to where I can think of a specific music cue and remember the dialogue and the scene right off the bat. Star Wars and the first 2 Halloween movies are the only films that I can remember right off the bat from the score.

Gotta say your comments about your early years resonated so much with me cos it was basically the same as my early years aswell. Sitting infront on the tv watching film after film, my mam not really realising or maybe even caring what i was watching even though the titles should of been a giveaway hahaha. Death wish, mad max, the last hunter, death race 2000 & the exterminator were some of the 1st films i ever seen on video but it was the horror films that were always my favourite. & your totally right about us horror fans starting out really young, we seem to find our way & true love for genre long before any other kinda genre fans. I remember in the 70's watching the hammer house of horrors as well as the hammer films on tv as well as old universal films etc but when we got a video, wow man! Thats when my life completely exploded, watching zombie flesheaters, dawn of the dead, cannibal ferox etc. Great times. But for some reason i always had to watch halloween & halloween 2 over & over again, especially the 1st 1. That film was everything i wanted & needed in a film at that time. Because of that film i have spent a ridiculously unhealthy amount of time watching slasher films over the years. But it became a love & a passion that just like michael will never die. I was 5 years old in 1981 when I saw the original Halloween. I have been in love with the franchise since then. I saw Halloween II the following year. Things really got off track in the subsequent sequels but, in my eyes the original will always be the best horror movie ever made!
I will always feel that way because even after 40 years the original still holds up. Carpenter is a master of suspense and this movie was terrifying even though there’s not much blood in it. I didn’t care for the brother/sister angle of Halloween II.
The fact that there wasn’t a motive in the original made it so much more terrifying than the brother/sister thing. I love what you’re doing here my friend! Keep up the good work!

As much as I liked Annie in this one I crushed hard on Danielle Harris as a kid in the later Halloween movies and especially when she played Melanie Monroe in an episode of Eerie, Indiana and it was great to see her in the remake as Annie but that just my oppinion

You know when I was a kid, Dr. Loomis was the annoying doctor that wore the same coat in every film. But as I got older I realized how good a character he was. This guy takes his responsibility for Michael, his lack of being able to reach him and the impact his patient has on society at large, very seriously.
I regret to say that I wasn't a massive fan of this movie when growing up. I always had it my collection vhs/dvd etc and kept revisiting it because of the legacy and love it gets but I personally never connected with it. Until now that is. I don't know what's happened but after my latest viewings, I totally get it now and I am now very close to moving this to my favourite horror movie and that would mean putting it above lifetime favourites.

Great video! I watched the whole thing. Love hearing people talk about Halloween. I started watching horror at a young age and Halloween was one of the first horror movies I ever saw. Later on in life, I started collecting movies and when VHS was all the rage, the first VHS I purchased was Halloween 4. A week or so later I then bought Halloween (1978), Halloween 5 and Halloween 6 on VHS as well. So those four movies were the first VHS tapes I ever owned. Now all these years later, I now collect DVDs and Blu-rays and have over 1,200 movies in my collection. Halloween is what got me into horror and is also responsible for making me a movie collector.

I actually saw this in the movie theater in 1978 with my cousin. it was too good and nothing had come out to match it before. It got me hooked on John Carpenter and Jaime Lee Curtis. I don’t remember when I first seen this my earliest memory of watching a horror film was walking out on my parents watching a nightmare on elm street 3 when it aired on hbo so I’m guessing I was 6 and the scene of Patricia running with the girl and hearing her say put me down your hurting me then the girls was just bones scared the shit out of me but then fell in love with the series for better or worse as a whole

My own story, I grew up in KC the first city it played in. I was in the 3rd grade and my friend told me about this movie his Dad took him to. His dad was a young father who parked his motorcycle in the living room, so taking an 8 year old to a horror movie wouldn't have been out of character. My friend was telling about this horrifying movie he saw and how in the end the killer couldn't be killed. I remember asking him questions about the movie but he could only tell me so much because he admitted that he had closed his eyes for much of it. LOL. I didn't think about it much after. But a few years later I went to another friends house whose parents were away and we watched Halloween on HBO. I was not allowed to see rated R movies and I had assured by parents I wouldn't. But after seeing it, I was so scared that I had to talk about it with my parents. It's good my Mom didn't get mad but after telling her the story I could see she got freaked out a little. LOL

I rewatched this last night after not watching it for years. I have to be honest I always found the film to be overrated... but after hearing you on your channel and drumdums I figured I should give it another shot. Because of the high praise and passion you have for this movie. I understand the personal love for the movie as I have some that are very close to my heart also. So I love your passion for your favourite movie. After watching it last night I enjoyed it way more than I remembered and omg some of the scenes are actually genuinely scary, I found the day time scenes in particular very effective and creepy. The score is incredible and the atmosphere is spot on. The scene where his mask comes of the dark really got me too. I was in my flat alone at the time and it’s been a while something in a horror movie got me. I prefer horror that doesn’t rely on jump scares and uses dread and tension. I don’t mind a jump scare occasionally if done right. But yeah, I have definitely changed my opinion on Halloween. Never disliked it. But I like it more after my rewatch it. Still not the best horror in my opinion but I can appreciate it being called that and I can see why others may think so.

Watching the film last night for about the thirtieth time, I finally considered the scenario of Annie’s death in the garage and the locked/unlocked car door. So did Michael climb in the car, lock the doors, wait for her to try to get in, then unlock it while she went to get her keys? Did he know she would forget her keys? was there a strategic point for him to do this? It is a good teaser for the audience when she gets in and doesn’t notice, but did Carpenter and Hill think that through as a plot hole.
You are always great at highlighting the absurd while appreciating the value of the film, I thought I would throw in something that hadn’t been breached yet.
He was following her. Saw she was definitely coming back to the car so he got in. Probably broke one of the windows or the passenger side was unlocked. This wouldn’t be too hard to explain away
Halloween is a well made, good looking suspense/ comic/ horror, but ... I don't know why, but it just doesn't work for me, for some reason. I've never understood the love for it. It's watchable, at best, for me. An alternative title could have been, Black Christmas, part 2, as it is very similar to Bob Clark's 1974 film, which is, in my mind, superior. Interesting observation on the slow response time from the Haddonfield PD. Finally, your early comments and nostalgia about Halloween mirror some of my thoughts and feelings toward Phantasm.
Yes to this entirely! I don't mind Halloween but it's the lesser when it comes to Black Christmas which for me easily usurps this film. Bob Clark was (is) one of the most underrated directors we ever had.
I found Black Christmas to be kinda drab by comparison.

You mentioned wondering why we get into this...what about the movie hooks us. I also love this movie above all others. I love most of John Carpenter’s stuff. For me, it is the intimacy of the story. Most of his movies are stories that are set in a neighborhood or a town...small scale. The characters are relatable and likable, and when you are a kid that really resonates. Kids like it when you are real and honest, which these stories are. Anyway, that’s my reasoning for loving this movie :)

Michael eats dogs. Not a fan being a dog lover haha but it worked and truly portrayed Myers being an emotionless killer he is for me anyway. Yes killing people portrays this but for me the dog thing puts it over the top and adds something to Michael's evilness.

Director probably did it as you said for dramatic rather than realistic purposes, but what gets me every time that I find unforgivable and should have been flagged as it's such an obvious and terrible mistake, is that the mum at some point puts her hands in her pockets. Each time I see this I just cringe. Great movie, great director who probably was under pressure to get it all shot in the time frame, but this should have been seen. She looks like she's about to tell him off.

Alex L I am going to do the nightmare series and the demons series absolutely! Nightmare 2 is BY FAR my favorite of the series. I love it so damn much.
Awesome! Maybe do an Italian series or something. So so so many gems. Nightmare 2 holds a special place in my heart being the first Freddy movie i saw. Of all of them, it's the one i've watched the most. So 80's, you cant go wrong!

I think when Michael wears the sheet it try’s to capture the cat and mouse approach to his kill. Ya know where he , correction , it knows at any second he can kill her but gets the joy out of toying with his victims. This is all speculation tho

Do you have every version of the original Halloween on VHS, DVD, Blu Ray and now the 4K version? I am trying to determine which version to buy. I've heard that some of the versions enhanced the color too much (brightened it) while others made it darker (more gray), another version edited the PJ Soles nudity scenes so you don't see as much as the original release in 1978, etc. Which version of the movie do you think is truest (exactly the same) to the 1978 first run in theaters of the movie?
Star Blazers after panning I found your question. I personally prefer the original Blu Ray with the more vibrant colors but most prefer the 35th anniversary Blu Ray that was done by Dean Cundey. I think that Blu Ray come with the 4K. I think the 4K looks very similar to the 35th anniversary. I’d pick that up if you are looking for the 78 theater look
