The learn to draw book is selling for $3.99. with a minimum book cost of $2.15 that leaves $1.85 to be split. 60% royalty of $1.85 is $1.11 per book. So a lot of sales needed to make it worthwhile.
WOW! These all look like so much fun to create and explore! I'm looking forward to learning how to do all these you talked about here on the video! Thanks so much for sharing with us!
yesss pls give tutorials! i’ve been doing my research on kdp and have heard of several of these website resources but personally, i need in depth tutorials on how to use them! thank u
great video, i look forward to seeing the others on how to create these books! All of them interest me, I made 1 dot marker book at Christmas but was fairly new to KDP then. How to draw books or any using free vector programmes interest me.
Hi Rachel, thank you a lot for the informative video! I would be happy to see the tutorial for Spot the Difference and Dot maker books. Thank you a lot!
Loved the video! Thanks so much for providing insight on how to think about the research from the bestseller's list all the way through the software. It was nice to see inside of it and understand how it can help in the process or at least make the process more efficient. I would love to see spot the difference tutorials as my first choice.
Thanks for watching, Traci! The Bestsellers lists are such a huge help in finding those little golden nugget niches. I'll have some tutorials coming your way soon!
Thanks for showing how to use the Best Seller list to start the drill-down process. It's those details that are so important for people starting out. I like that you don't just say, "use the Best Seller list"--you actually show us how to do that. I'd like to see tutorials in all the areas you mentioned, and not just where to go to get images, but also how to break them apart. Even just a brief overview on what file types can be edited in that way would help. You probably already have videos that you can point viewers to, but a brief mention at the beginning of a tutorial video will keep users watching that video--and understanding right away if it is something they think they can do. With your very clear instructions, there's a pretty good chance they CAN do it by the end of the video. Thanks! And keep the great information coming.
Hi Rachel, thank you for the tutorial. Since I am a beginner (I recently bought your course), I would love a tutorial on each of these. Have a great day.
Great video! HowTo videos on the dot to dot and the color by number. I use Affinity and do my own illustrations so please don't forget comment on those aspects in your tutorials ❤️
I will be curious about your success with the Dot Markers. I have stayed away from that niche because the KDP paper is so thin I would be concerned about using markers of any kind on that paper. So would be interested to know how it works for you and the reviews you get from it.
Hi Thank you for doing this video, I would like you to do a video on two of those you raised 1 being the Spot the Difference niche and the other is color by numbers.

Where would I download the stock imagery for free without copywriter? And please can you make a tutorial for all of these niches? I am an absolute beginner. Thank you so much awesome ideas!
Definitely would want a tutorial on all of those if you can 😂 also wanted to ask what’s your opinion on the changes that KDP has done with not giving out free ISBN numbers for low content books creators. We would have to buy ISBN numbers which are quite expensive especially with a new low content creator
Hi Maritza! I wouldn't purchase any ISBNs; I would just go without. The downside is that books without ISBNs won't have the Look Inside feature, but that's no issue if you're using A+ Content. I think overall this is a good change, and might help to slow down the spammers.
@@RachelHarrisonSund awesome! Yes I do agree to have it be less crowded on KDP. I’ve been looking into the A+ content would really appreciate a video explaining this as well as how you would go about with A+ content. Would just love any and all ideas to get my creative juices flowing with this new feature 🙌🏼
Hi Rachel, already created a how to draw Book but unfortunately Amazon closed 🔐 My account. Now i use my friend account and am sure i will start creating a new book . Because there is a lot of subniches in this niche, i remember one of those how to draw books ranked 14 in last December
Thanks, Rachel for a great video. I would like to see the tutorials for these individual books. I have no experience working with vectors and no software for that, so suggestions for free options would be helpful. Also, have you ever used Book Brush? If so, what do you think of that? Thanks again!
Hi JoLyn! For free vector editing software I recommend the free version of Gravit Designer or Inkscape (if you have a PC). I haven't used Book Brush before; I'll have to check it out!
@@RachelHarrisonSund Thanks for the software suggestions. I will check them out. I stumbled across Book Brush and thought it might be helpful for creating A+ content, as well as an alternative to Canva for designing book covers. I don’t know if it’s new or not, but I value your opinion so much, and would love to hear your thoughts on it if you check it out. Thanks again!
Hi Rachel, I want to create a kdp store specifically for kids and I am planning on using a pen name called "in a child's world" Does that make sense??😶😶😶
I'd love to see more tutorials with vector editing software. With your recommendation on your course, I bought Affinity Publisher a year ago but I haven't made time to learn it since it seems complicated . I only use it when making logos using your logo video as a guide. Maybe I can start to learn it following all your tutorials.
Great video as always. A quick question regarding coloring books: in my research I’ve seen customer commenté regarding the poor quality of the paper on the KDP published book for coloring books, e.g., too thin, bleeds through to the back side and other pages, etc. I’m assuming that there is no way to control the paper quality. Any thoughts on how to avoid that problem? Have you had any trouble with this concern? Thanks and keep up the great work!
Hey Doug! Unfortunately there's no way to increase the paper quality for coloring books on KDP. And while some customers do complain, most don't. The best way I've seen publishers mitigate this problem is by placing artwork on one side of the page only. Thanks for watching!
I've seen 2 approaches to this: One well known colouring book series has the back of every page completely black, which is a terrrrrible waste of ink and kept me awake at night for a long time when I first saw it! The other is to put a note at the front of the book suggesting a piece of paper be placed under the page that's being coloured, if using markers/felt tips.
@@WynterLantyrn Thanks Chris! Great ideas, especially the one with the black ink. I agree that it seems like a waste of ink. Hope you can get some sleep...;-)
@@WynterLantyrn @Rachel Harrison-Sund I have seen another way to solve this problem. Publishers of coloring book are leaving empty page after every artwork.
Very nice, but because these niches are very competitive, advertising is required. I made such an activity book at the beginning of May, no sales at all so far without advertising.
Seems that the color by numbers is somewhat more complex. You have to have a properly shaded painting, transform it to shapes, then transpose the colors to appropriate numbers. You also have to have additional costs associated with color printing for your interior.
You don't need to use what you call a "shaded painting" to create your color by numbers book. Any drawings can be used that are simple enough, or you can make your own drawings. Vector line art is best when creating the book, because you can easily adjust the sizes of the elements without the line art becoming pixilated. 😊 Also, because it is a coloring book you are creating for sale on KDP, the INSIDE of the book is only black-and-white line art. NOT COLOR. So you don't have to consider those things when you create your coloring book, because they do not apply. ☺️ If you can't do your own line art, don't worry, because it appears that Creatiive Fabrica seems to have loads of line art for coloring books, that you will not have to separate out the color from (but it is easy to do, as you would just select the color portions in the artwork, and delete them). See Rachel's coloring book tutorials for detailed info, plus the vector programs have tutorials on how to delete things, etc.❤
The problem with full color activity books is that the printing costs increase substantially. This means that in order for you to make money you need to raise your price to something that is likely cost-prohibitive to the shopper, or puts your price much higher than your competitor. For this reason I'd avoid it.
Have you had success with any of the hidden gem niches that I went over in this video? Let me know in the comments!
