The Acolyte Episode 3: Star Wars is Broken

- I'm not sure what to say at this point. The Acolyte Episode 3 is a masterclass of lore breaking, narcissism, terrible writing, apalling acting and just about every other negative adjective that you can think of.
Join me as we discuss episode 3 of the Acolyte and why Star Wars will never be the same. - Фільми й анімація
Bob Iger: we are not doing political propaganda on our shows. meanwhile on Star Wars Acolyte... 🙄
As the lead actress is now talking about how the show is intended to be matriarchal and queer, well, here we are. This is the future of Star Wars under this company. No matter how much we hate it it will never, ever change. Not until it is dead and buried and possibly resurrected by another creative somewhere down the road.
EXCELLENT WORK. NERDWORD THE ACOLYTE HOT 🔥 GARBAGE 🗑 🗑 🗑 SERIOUSLY,
They killed off an entire extended universe full of characters and lore that people loved, for a thread. A thread that isn't a weapon, then immediately uses it as a weapon. Even as a deterrent like a mob boss. Someone should tell the writers, that's what evil people do.
They know.
Anyone who still thinks the slippery slope is a fallacy is in denial.
Indeed. I'm old enough to remember. 50 years ago it was "We just want to be accepted." Now it's, "Celebrate and join us or you are haters!"
Hypothesis: Leslye Headland worked for Harvey Weinstein and so she "knows too much", as it were, and is blackmailing Disney executives into letting her do whatever she wants.
Harming animals, starting fires, extreme violent thoughts, all presenting at a young age.. classic signs of a budding sociopath. They sure went all out on the evil twin trope.
I'm reminded of George RR Martin's latest thoughts on this. It definitely applies for this show:
"Everywhere you look, there are more screenwriters and producers eager to take great stories and "make them their own." It does not seem to matter whether the source material was written by Stan Lee ... lan Fleming, Roald Dahl, Ursula K. Le Guin, J.R.R. Tolkien, Mark Twain ... Jane Austen, or... well, anyone. No matter how major a writer it is, no matter how great the book, there always seems to be someone on hand who
thinks he can do better, eager to take the story and "improve" on it. "The book is the book, the film is the film," they will tell you, as if they
were saying something profound. Then they make the story their own. They never make it better, though. Nine hundred ninety-nine times out of
a thousand, they make it worse" -- George RR Martin, Blog post "The Adaptation Tango" 5/24/24
The chant. OMG the chant. I wanted to crawl under the desk, I was so embarrassed for the actors involved.
BTW, one of the most underrated channels on youtube. I hope your channel blows up.
You and me both!

HOT 🔥 GARBAGE 🗑 🗑 🗑 DISNEY'S THE ACOLYTE GONNA BE HOT 🔥 GARBAGE 🗑
This show is a therapy session for Lesbian Headlamp.
It was a Bud Light moment. It was the intentional destruction of the brand and, therefore, indicated the desire to rebuild a new market at the cost of the old.
Honestly, that should be the end of Star Wars. The fans who loved and built the brand need to walk away.
The owners of the brand have shown they do not care about all the people that made Star Wars special.
It does not matter if the next Star Wars is legendary. The fans need to let Star Wars go.
I defended Star Wars for years. I defended the Special Editions, the prequels, the Disney Sequels, the Holiday Special, the Obi-Wan show and even the fire in space in that Acolyte episode. This I can't defend.
You did your best man. Just remember that you didn’t let Star Wars down. Star Wars let you down.
I've always made myself enjoy every Star Wars show or movie I've ever watched. Having grown up with the original trilogy, I went into the prequels with a child's expectations and then sat back and studied what I had just seen. Same for any of the hit and miss Disney content of the past few years. But, The Acolyte is a suspension of disbelief too far for me. Whatever you think of all the SW material to date, you can always point to a target audience for it and respect the fact that SW spans multiple generations and not everything will be custom designed for you. But I have no idea who the Acolyte was made for, besides Headland and a few of her closest friends. A $180,000,000 vanity project powered by hubris and delusion.
To be fair, it wasn't just Headland. Dave Filoni also pushed to put these witches in it
They subverted expectations for so long, there were no longer any expectations.
Now they have to resort to subverting canon. Put another way, they have to destroy Star Wars in order to "save" it.
screw lucas for thinking he wasn't already rich enough.
this is really all his fault.
he had enough money to comfortably live till the end of his days. not to mention the steady income from the royalties.
but no, that wasn't good enough for him
I guess one should distinguish between Star Wars and "Disney Star Wars", since the latter really is its own thing (and pretty awful).
I love this video! Concise and straight to the point! Thank you! 👏
Please keep making these sort of insightful videos. Happy if they are longer, feel free to explore the topics as I love hearing your perspective. 10/10, have subscribed
Plot twist coming:
"The destruction of the coven's fortress is perhaps the episode's weakest scene, as it feels rushed and also a bit non-sensical; it's never made clear why and how the witches die so quickly, with the fire causing a number of explosions that don't look especially deadly."
The Jedi killed them all.
To quote the Despot: REFLECTION OF MYsELF
Mae is getting a redemption arc. It’s going to happen and she will have the blood of probably 3 dead Jedi on her hands.
The thing with redemption arcs is that the redeemed villain shouldn't be evil from day one. Anakin was a good natured kid, and a loving young man who would not have turned bad in isolation to the events going on around him. Mae just shows up straight away as a total sociopath. If a character is born bad, their story generally finishes with them dying.
@@BlairLSK I hear you, but this show was sold to Lucasfilm as Frozen meets Kill Bill. The Kill Bill part is the hunting down and murder of the Jedi. The Frozen part will be the two sisters meeting at the end and putting all this behind them in the name of sisterly love.
It sounds like absolute trash writing, but that’s where this show is going.
Episode 1: *Campfire in space.*
Episode 3: Hold my white wine, babes.

YES I have been waiting for longer videos.
Star Wars is not broken.
Broken indicates it can be repaired back and working.
Star Wars is just destroyed 😢
Indeed, the new garbage (starting with the sequels, IMO) has tainted everything which came before it. It's difficult for me to appreciate the early material (in cinema, novels and the Dark Horse comic books -- not all of which was good, but more so than not) without the foul odor of what has happened since reeking into my nostrils.
And while I've liked sparingly few, bits and pieces of the Disney + material over the past few years, they've even managed to taint that which I otherwise would have enjoyed, with stubbornly intrusive indications that it's all leading toward that dumpster fire of a sequel trilogy.
If this is what was intended, is it really broken? I will keep saying it - Star Wars ended in the 1980's with RoTJ, it just took everybody thirty years to figure it out.
I’ve always believed this. RoTJ just did not feel like anything Star Wars. Even the special effects in that movie were lackluster.
Also, the wookie that looks like Harry from Harry & The Hendersons.
Woke wookies
Spot on.....
I don't know... I kinda like how Lesley Headland has distilled what truly means to be a queer woman in a hostile cis-generative normal patriarchal world. Bravo, for speaking your truth, Lesley. Bravo.
***quietly accepts Disney hush money****
😉
The prequels were bad because George surrounded himself with yes men and there was no-one to tell him “this part sucks”.
Disney’s toxic culture is far worse
We all break under torture eventually, and Star Wars has been tortured mercilessly by Disney..
What can save Star Wars and Disney at this juncture? The shareholders remove Iger, Headland and Kennedy. Fire the board and get people who would rather tell a good story instead of using the franchise as a platform for agenda. Yeah it's not happening😞
They succeeded with killing me as a star wars fan so part of their plan is working
I think Torbin offed them or started the fight under spike headed witch or Nsa control. The sith with the smiley face is the spike head or nsa. Torbin was made a master to keep him quiet. I think the goal of acolyte is to make the jedi look bad and the sith look good. I don't think they accomplished that.
I'm not a big Star Wars lorist either. But, man. The way they burned it down, both the stone castle and the lore. Jesus.
And the witch chant. Haven't seen such low quality stuff in a long while.
And the stupid witches with no technology and lazy explanation as magic thread. And the cringeworthy acting. Less spoken about it the better.
I thank you for not doing a review, because I really don't like any review of this either.
I will look forward to the character analysis very much though! I have a morbid curiosity in a guided dissection of how the hell this happened.
Episode 3 was boring. It leans too much on the inexperienced young actors playing the twins. The writing was the usual contradictory. I heard criticism from another youtuber that suggested this episode would've been better broken up and sprinkled throughout the other episodes and I agree. The only thing this episode did convince me more of is that Mae and Osha are the same person, but I'm less inclined to believe this, or any twist reveal, will be done well.
Much of the problema are on KK's account, she asked Leslie to do a Leslie show and gave her free reign and an immense budget to work with it. It has been a pattern: every new round of criticism from disgruntled fans makes Lucasfilm double down instead of correct the course. Now we know how a show promised to be targeted at a queer audience is like. Soon we will find out how an all-out actvist directing a movie will turn out.
They should just set money on fire as it would be a better use of their money and they can learn how fire works. Pathetic writing to sad storytelling to badly written characters. It was dead the moment they hired people with no idea about star wars.
Definitely your topic
The theory going around is that all this crap is being done to prop up the Rey movie. They are trying to paint the Jedi as being the bad guys this whole time so that Rey can rebuild the Jedi Order to it's most virtuous and female glory.
The ego and insecurities of Lesley Headland, ladies and gentlemen, for only 23 million dollars per episode. "I'm an evil lesbian who helped Harvey Weinstein, so I'll crap all over a franchise that's suffered enough, villainize it's heroes and heroines and claim there is no good and evil." I'm with you NerdWord, burn it all...
They scorched Willow.. so, why not {insert title}
I think the point here is to *not* break canon, but by setting it the past, she is inferring that Lucas broke canon with his lore. 🙄
The more shitty the shows get, the less actually bad scenes they will edit out. If all the scenes are bad to begin with, then you may as well put it all in
I'm quite sure there is going to be and explanation. Given what has gone before I wouldn't expect it it to be anything that makes sense in a sane world.
Let the scissoring begin....😂😂😂
I love the Star Wars movies. I hate this garbage. Once again a francise is ruined by a woke agenda.
The problem with this show is that it had what it took to be a great Star Wars mystery, but the writing of this show is messy and needs more professionalism. Plus, the lore is being blatantly disrespected. It's not the worst show, but it's just ok.
OH please... A brain injured money could write a better script.
The entire concept of lesbian space witches is a "slap in the face" of the existing fan-base. The "gross misuse" of the money and resources of the Disney company maybe an "indirect shot" at the white male patriarchy"
Hollywood sci-fi is where it was in the early 1950's era, those laughable B grade black & white flicks. In the 1950's the Acolyte would have been titled - Space Lesbians From Mars!
Auralnauts Laser Moon Awakens is the best Star Wars
*Disney’s Strange Behavior Explained*
Lately Disney has been producing flop after flop, which are ruining IPs that Disney has acquired, such as Star Wars. These failures are partly due to mismanaging IP consistency, partly due to ham-handed culture-war hectoring, and partly due to cringeworthy dialog, wooden characters, chaotic pacing, idiot plots, amateurish costuming, and mediocre special effects. But why those reasons?
Here are three theories for Disney’s strange behavior:
*Monopolistic Business Practices.* Disney is a monopoly. Their business plan is to eliminate the competition. One way is to buy that competition, then ruin its brand by wretched writing and ham-handed culture-war hectoring. Disney doesn’t ruin IPs to push DEI: they push DEI to ruin IPs. The true-believers who do the dirty work are useful idiots for their scheming bosses.
*Money Laundering.* The Acolyte spent $180,000,000 for mediocre special effects. Why? Maybe the execs skimped on special effects and kicked back most of the money to themselves and their friends-of-friends.
*“The Producers”,* by Mel Brooks, tells the tale of two corrupt producers who run a fraudulent scheme for making money by producing a deliberately failed show, then writing off the loss in taxes. Disney could be doing the same.
All three of these theories can be true at the same time, and indeed can synergize. Disney targets a competing IP: they buy it, then deliberately ruin it by inept writing from useful idiots, by performative diversity hiring, and by skimping on costuming and special effects. The money not spent is kicked back to the execs and their friends-of-friends. The shows fail, the IP is ruined, and the cost to Disney is an investment in monopoly maintenance. They write off the loss to avoid taxes.
I recommend that the Antitrust Division of the Department of Justice act to break up Disney for monopolistic business practices. The DoJ should also investigate money laundering and tax fraud.
I doubt Star Wars will be good again in my lifetime.
It just presents as cheap fan fictiony writing to go back and predicate a moral lesson on the Jedi being comically evil and an earlier group knowing more and being demonstrably more powerful. Because Headland wrote it. For decades after star wars, people dressed as the heroes. They would amuse themselves by writing 'jedi' as their religion on forms. I just don't think people were clamoring to have the rug pulled.
My money is on them revisiting the fire incident. But if the jedi disposed of the space witches, then you'd expect them to have (massive) light sabre damage. If the burnt diary is incidental to the main fire, then you're building a narrative on extreme convenience. Showing partial information is one thing. But if you pull back the camera to show a wider view, it shouldn't reveal that you had to lie to get the narrower view to work. With a flashback, you could get away with mistakes that were misremembering. But if the camera view is presented as objective, I think you need to operate within those rules.
The fan base is broken
It’s NOT Right!
Whatever this is, it is NOT STAR WARS.
I really cannot stand The Acolyte. And we only have five more weeks left of this crap.
You know, you literally don't have to watch it, right? Do you have a channel too?
Stone 🔥 fire 🔥 😅😂
My biggest point of contention is the lack of writing & bad dialog/exposition in the script for these shows. It is really disappointing when you see other studios like HBO deliver on both production value and writing for something like House of The Dragon, or FX with Shōgun, or Amazon with Fallout. Disney should be able to produce the same of quality, and sadly, they're not.
Gotta wonder which is worse Velma or this star wars shit?
Word, Nerd.
I like the idea of lesbian space witches. I’m not watching the show though
C'était déjà mauvais , c'est de plus complètement incohérent 😮💨😮💨😮💨
It's dead. It's been dead since the last jedi.
Anything after return of the Jedi is bunk. George is a fraud since 1983
Not just "Lesbian, space witches"... "Communist, lesbian, space witches" just sayin'
When agenda pushing meets wish fulfillment.
Eh. i don't care anymore.
I just want to let you all know. Not everyone in the 🏳️🌈 community are not this insane.
I stopped watching Disney Star Wars after the book of boobie faketeeth. Bobba Fett never should have been the actore who plays Jengo as that didn't make any sense in the time frame. Anyways. Never bothered with season 3 of Mando as season 2 it should've just ended. Since then I find videos like this by nerdorotic, chris gore, drinker, etc to be far more entertaining. Dinsey Star Wars is dead.
So don’t watch …. But yet you will watch it, then go on about it being shit…..then watch the next episode and complain and complain. Get a life
Yeah, Star Wars is FUBAR.
The director looks exactly like what I'd imagine for someone writing this stupidly woke show
The gayest Stars Wars tv show in the solar system 😂😂
This serie is even worsse than the race swap canadian robyn TV show and madame web(the worst movie of 2024).
Hard disagree. This episode wound up surprising the hell out of me, especially since it plays with sci-fi abstractions in a completely different way than usual.

What a joke...just like this:
How do you take a Billion Dollar Franchise and turn it into a Million Dollar Franchise?
