My piano teacher assigned it to me for my ARCT 😆 I insisted on switching to Beethoven’s moonlight. So after ARCT , my teacher assigned it to me again. She’s like you need to work on Mozart’s music . I love it 🥰
So beautiful!! Played so well! Thank you for posting this. I really enjoyed listening to this magnificent Mozart Sonata and enjoyed seeing the sheet music.
Köchel said of this sonata, "Without question this is the most important of all Mozart's pianoforte sonatas. Surpassing all the others by reason of the fire and passion which, to its last note, breathe through it, it foreshadows the pianoforte sonata, as it was destined to become in the hands of Beethoven."[4] John Gillespie, Professor of Music at the University of California, describes the Piano Sonata No. 14 as a uniquely "somber and passionate" work of Mozart's, and states that "no other music composed before Beethoven contains so many Beethovenian elements," namely the "contrast of themes and the sense of ceaseless struggle."[5] Mozart's sonata feels in several ways prophetic of Beethoven's C minor sonata Piano Sonata No. 8 in C minor, "Pathétique" (which it predates by roughly fifteen years), and both works share a similar overall structure. Mozart's theme in his spacious second movement is almost identical to the theme of Beethoven's sonata's second movement.
no soy un gran fan de Baremboim pero en esta sonata esta extraordinario otra gran versión de Baremboim haciendo Mozart es el concierto 21 con la orquesta de cámara de Londres tocando y dirigiendo
Each piano sonata and movement resembles a particular story in my mind. The 1st movement of Piano Sonata no. 14 resembles an evil being invading a town and it's up to its residents to save it.
Everyone has their own story in mind when they're listening to music. Sometimes it's simply hard to work it out but everyone has it, especially when practicing the piece.
Beethoven-like. Was this a nod to the German Master. It certainly possesses some ponderous elements for which he was known, and yet there are traces of delicacy. The trill work, the groupettes, still Mozartian. But that pounding upward motion driving the primary theme is very late classical. Similar to the upward “rocket” theme in the last movement of his D minor Concerto (his last). Mozart is knocking at the door of late classism. He is saying I am giving this a go...and my time is short....so pay attention....damn it! I hear you Mr Wolfgang.
Mozart came before Beethoven. Dont you know history? Beethoven stole from mozart all the time. Many of his most popular themes were taken from Mozart but he gets the credit for it.
Let’s say he was inspired. Artists do this all the time. There is a saying like, ”there is no purely original tought” because composers like this helped devolop western classical music altogether, not just Mozart.
That's definitely plausible. The second and third movements especially resemble the Pathetique Sonata, with the second movement of the Mozart sonata mostly resembling the second movement of the Pathetique Sonata but also with a bit of the rondo resemblance in there and the third movement mostly resembling the Rondo of the Pathetique sonata but also with a bit of first movement resemblance in there.

The opening is actually closer to the opening of Beethoven's 5th sonata. Both Beethoven's 5th sonata and this Mozart sonata were models for Beethoven's 8th sonata.

Sounds like beethoven’s sonata no. 1 in f minor, the structure is pretty similar
And 8th in c minor. At least the exposition part is.
Accurate comparison! I suspect it likely served as the model.

Many also compare this sonata with a fantasia he wrote the following spring (also in C minor).

Un cierto parecido a la pieza de piano sonata de beethoven fa menor
The idea is the same as his Piano Concerto in C minor.
is this like a romantic piece? over the classical period ?
Mozart is classical but when he wrote in a minor key I'd say it is often 'proto-romantic'
