    Great video, I have driven every GEN Miata and the best Miata is the one you’re in. I have a 1999 NB1 with a five speed manual, LSD, and a hard dog Rollbar. I have fun no matter what speed I’m driving and I can beat on this thing and it keeps asking for more. I like the Miata car culture as well, they like to go drive and not just sit and talk.

      Yeah, but is the original throttle response as lazy as described, or do you think the tune may have dulled it? I've seen at least 2 different youtubers who's had some issue with the throttle tune after installing the edlebroc supercharger.

    • @richboy900

      My car is standard power wise, I don't think the throttle response is bad at all, its quite immediate. But I've had many turbo cars in the past, among some golf and Audi TDIs so it'd be another league to those cars

      It feels like a 90's car in all the right ways. There's something that happened with cars in the early to mid 2000's where they all went significantly more muted and numb as manufacturers really started to dial in their reduction of NVH. I remember driving my mom's 2015 Civic after getting out of my 1998 Civic, and that thing felt like a 5 series in comparison.

    • @TassieLorenzo
      @TassieLorenzo 4 місяці тому +1

      Are 2.5 swaps more popular than RX-8 13B swaps? 🤔 As a casual observer, I feel like the latter would lean more into Mazda folklore and I understand it's a relatively straight-forward swap: "almost like it's made for the 13B"? 🙂

    • @Ben-bg2eg
      @Ben-bg2eg 4 місяці тому +1

      @@TassieLorenzoThe 2.5 is a popular swap because used fusion motors are plentiful and generally reliable for this application, and it swaps right in with little modification necessary.

    • @JETZcorp
      @JETZcorp 4 місяці тому +3

      @@TassieLorenzo The rotary swap into an NC is apparently not as straightforward as it should be. Surprisingly few people have done it, and my understanding is it requires a whole RX8 front subframe and some fabrication on the PPF. The 2.5 drops in with barely any modification at all, because it's the exact same engine just with a slightly taller deck. The 2.5 is practically free, and while you have it on the bench, it's super easy to throw some cams and forged internals at it, which make it really walk all over the Renesis. It's also usually legal in lower race classes than the rotary would be. With that said, I would choose the rotary swap 10 out of 10 times, personally. I think torque is the enemy of fun sports cars on the street. A rotary would be like having a 2-stroke Miata, and that's the most fun thing imaginable.

    FWIW the NC updates on the engine & suspension changes came in 2009 with the NC2. I absolutely love my NC2 soft top, grand touring trim with the performance package to get the LSD, Bilstein shocks, strut tower brace. A little under 2 years ago I went from a pretty basic 1995 NA with open diff, (broken) AC and power steering, old stock suspension and AT tires, to a barely used stock 2020 ND2 Club. Only thing I'd really like to change in the ND2 is the exhaust, just because the stock sound isn't too inspiring. I considered an NC, but both the exterior and interior of the ND look so much better in my opinion, and I wanted the newer limited slip and Android Auto right out of the box. You're not wrong... it's not the best bang for buck choice 😊. Can't say I had a reason other than I already had the car the way I liked it, and wanted more power.
      Kit comes with different injectors, better than stock but not good enough for the same power gains as the ND1 gets relative to baseline power.
      Tune needs a bit of work for low speed driving, but spirited it's really nice

    Thanks, cool video, I purchased the 2015 NC3 club hardtop for 60,000miles 6M $21K out the door w/ extended warranty, I did drive the newer ND1 base model, after 3wks the NC3 is now slow but still fun to drive, issue with the NC3 NC is that its the least loved of the miata and has less aftermarket parts, I do have two NA miata, waiting for Flyin Miata to come out with their NC turbo pending 2025 to come out (hopefully); but I might just sell the NC3 and buy a BMW M240i for power without spending $$$ on a turbo upgrade ; IMO I would tell people to buy the ND2 or ND3 as the NC was design when Mazda didn't have design $$ but mostly the NC engine is Mazda/Ford design and not having a huge aftermarket support; but I like the NC3 hardtop exterior body design better ( oh the NC you can upgrade many parts with the Mazda RX8 as the suspension design is the same )

    I think the ND2 is the best one can get for a Miata. Don't bother getting the coming 2024 ND3 as it only added a few electronic driving aids like radar cruise control. Relocated DRL's and an updated infitainment system plus a tweak on the steering system for more feel. The engine and suspension will not be getting any changes. The next generation NE(?) will be a hybrid, so it will most likely be a big change away from the Miata's "analogue personality".

    • @veefource
      @veefource 4 місяці тому

      Yeah they supposedly removed a bush from the steering but that will have a negligible difference as most of the friction is in the gears and motor response. They have tweaked the software but for a 'lighter' feel which doesn't sound appealing to me.
      It also has a new asymmetric lsd but it seems to work in the opposite way to a 1.5 lsd, ie more hook up under braking and less under power. Good for a novice driver but not so much for harder driving.

      It's a lightly modified Mazda3 engine. The dual-VTEC K20 has not met emissions since 2011 unfortunately, even the K24Z7 (integrated exhaust manifold) is not made anymore as far as I know. I really think the ticket is an NC MX-5 with the RX-8 13B rotary engine -- more revs, more power (even if marginally less power than what Mazda say), nice compact engine... I understand the front subframe and engine swap straight over from an RX-8. I'm baffled why the swap to the 13B isn't more popular!

    • @JETZcorp
      @JETZcorp 4 місяці тому +3

      No one touches Honda in terms of power from a 2.0 NA engine. Mazda always tuned the Miata engines to prioritize mid-range torque, which is about right to drive the car 6 or 7 tenths like stock Miatas are meant to do. The NA and NB Miatas were simply limited by the awful ports in that VERY old BP engine. During the middle of the NC's career, the emissions regulations tightened to really require a very short exhaust manifold and pre-cat, which spells instant doom for high-revving NA engines. We can see that the S2000 and 8000rpm K20 went away around that time (along with the rotary, for related-but-different reasons). Stock K24s make more power than the NC only because they're 400cc larger - their RPM and flow advantages are not legal for OE manufacture anymore. The ND1 was low-powered because that car was never intended to have a 2.0 engine. Mazda of North America fought hard to make that happen, and they only had time to direct-drop the torque-biased Mazda3 version of that engine in the car.
