Sanitizing wipes! Lol are you kidding. Hoarders bought all of those long ago. Those of us who stayed calm and didn’t run out and buy everything in the store are now at a disadvantage
if you have bleach and water add it to a bottle spray on to a paper towel . that is a sanitizer , rubbing alcohol is a sanitizer , peroxide cleans your hands . ( it cleans cuts . ) .
I bought supplies in early January. We knew this was coming. No one was shopping yet and the shelves were long restocked before the hoarders came. You can make wipes from baby wipes and bleach.

Yes you both are, if you have it the mask will stop the spread . If someone coughs or sneezes that has it a mask will not stop you from getting it . Are your eyes covered to keep droplets from entering , mask does nothing to stop that entry point . Why do you see full hazmat suits on people entering known contaminated areas . You should not be shopping if your sick !
@@dougs3196 dude you sound kinda dumb .. Healthcare workers wouldn't need them if they didn't help protect them from the virus. Do you think it's because people aren't washing they're hands ?? Maybe people aren't wearing eye protection but maybe they should.
right! they tell you not too, then the next comment is someone telling you how long the respiratory droplets/or mist is in the air from coughing and sneezing? soooo, if you have a mask you are keeping it all contained...right?
Why would they recommend washing your hands in soapy water for 20+ seconds, but then say it's OK to just rinse produce in plain cool water? Logically, you need to think about how many other people may have touched the product throughout the supply chain and in the store. As a foodservice worker trained in food safety and sanitation, we wear disposable plastic gloves, wipe down individual products and surfaces with sanitizer, throw out outer wrapping and repackage food in food-safe containers, avoid cross-contamination and deep-clean our kitchens every night.
Yeah, I didn't understand that advice at all! I've been washing my fruits and certain veggies with dish soap for YEARS - and I've also been rinsing my greens with a bleach solution for years as well (I let that sit for a few minutes for the bleach to work - then rinse it).
You are right.........it is soap or detergent that breaks down the outer shell of the coronavirus. It is also warm water that does a better job with viruses. I think that the cool water may not be enough.
Screw that--I wear gloves, an N95 (ordered back near Xmas) mask, and airtight goggles. When I get home, I put all food products in my own containers, discarding packaging handled and stocked by...who knows? All produce is washed with Dr. Bronners. Surfaces are cleaned thoroughly. Shoes and clothes are discarded upon entry to my home and I shower after all groceries are put away. Then clean clothes.
I do the exact same thing. I also NEVER order any food to be delivered from restaurants! You never know who prepared and handled your food. These times are so scary but if we pay attention and keep our surroundings clean then we will be okay. ✌🏼😊

I only bought fresh fruit that could be pealed. I will peal my veggies before baking. I am 70, not in good health but I am concerned my cat might be left alone if I pass. If I feel like I have the virus, I will not seek medical treatment. I would want to just pass.

The video on shopping is in error when they say gloves do not help because they contaminate the next thing you touch, true but so do your hands. At least with gloves I can remove them when I am finished shopping as well as all the pathogens I have touched and throw them away, less contaminate on you hands. The key is not to tough you face with hands or gloves, I find this easier as I am more aware with gloves. Gloves are worn in almost every type of food processing !
1. Make a list before you go, and list the items in the order they would be in the store. 2. If you bring coupons, keep them handy, and separeate the ones you will be using, and hand them to the clerk all at once. 3. Don't take too much time, get in and get the stuff you need fast. 4. Prioritize. If you need something like Toilet paper, paper towels, bleach, or any other hard-to find items, get them first. Get the frozen foods last. If you want to browse, do it quickly. 5. To comparison shop, look at the price tags on the shelves, and look at the cost per ounce, pound, item, etc. 6. Bring a magic marker to label items that have to be bought in groups of 2, 3, 4, 5, or more to get the discount label each one as "1 of 5, 2 of 5, 3 of 5," etc. If you have more than one group of items, label them as groups "A, B, C" and so on. Example- "A, 1 of 5" 7. If you are shopping for more than one person, label their initials on the items. 8. Don't block shelves with your cart, keep the cart far enough away from the shelves so that other people can reach them. If someone is blocking you from getting an item, wait for them to leave, or ask them politely to let you get the item(s) "Excuse me, I just need to grab some _______. Thank you. ALWAYS respect other shoppers, and don't block the aisles. 9. DON'T engage other people in conversation! It's tempting, but it can spread contagion, even through masks. If you meet a friend, call them later. If you have to talk to someone, don't aim your mouth diraectly at them. Either cover your mouth with your hand or other item. 10. DON'T panic buy! Only get what you NEED for a week or so, maximum 3 weeks. Remember that other people will be shopping after you, so leave some for them. Don't get greedy or someone will be needy! 11. Help other shoppers who can't reach some items, such as people using motorized carts, or others with obvious disabilities. Remember, we are all in this together, and we need to help one another. We are all we have. 12. When checking out, don't start a long conversation with the clerk. there are other people behind you. Avoid paying with cash. Dollar bills are treated with an antimicrobial when they are printed, but don't bet on it killing a virus. Use a debit or credit card instead. If you normally pay by check, have the store info written out beforehand, leaving ony the dollar amount and your signature blank. Get in, get stuff, get out, go home. Keep it fast and simple.
Does anyone know why they recommend to NOT wash or sanitize produce? I've been washing my produce (like apples) for years with dish soap and I give my greens a rinse in a bleach solution. I think this is pragmatic. ? Even before this - just look and consider all the people touching all the produce with their dirty hands - ewww.
We're constantly told to use wipes or some other type of disinfectant. How are we supposed to do this when the stores don't have any left? All of these suggestions are useless if we can't purchase the products they're telling us to use.
Walmart in Orlando has disinfecting Lysol/ great value disinfecting wipes and toilet paper, Lysol all purpose cleaners, and bleach! Incase anyone lives in that area
A lot of good tips, but why did you say not to wash fruit in soapy water? I would think that would be fine for fruit with hard surfaces. I would also think you can soak & rinse fruit or vegetables in cold water with white vinegar like you do to can or freeze. We would actually soak in one sink then another then back to the first (after we'd rinsed it out) then again in the last.
The reason WHO says it's not necessary to wear a mask is that they can't provide everyone with masks. But, yes, wearing a mask can help you avoid any contaminated droplets in the air. That only makes sense.
It's not always possible to stay six feet away from other shoppers in a supermarket, because the aisles are so narrow. Especially now that the checkout lines stretch to the back of the store.
All the people in the US should wear a face mask. The only reason it was not encouraged is that they are worried the healthcare workers will not run out. S. Korea does not get it why Americans does not use it. You can do your own mask at home.
Everyone should wear mask period! People are asymptotic while being carriers, how is that not enforced at the end of March???? Common sense but American government and who lack of that
Cat and dear frinds. The recommendation for mask is one with the most contradictory views from the scientific, medical, healthcare community since beginning of this outbreak.....not just in America but all over the world ... The reason : most of.the recommendations are "deliberately NOT technical" . But these are driven by situational, common sense reasons and ones anticipating shortages for healthcare professionals due to usage by public ... Similar is the contradictions in using a normal Vs N95 mask ... In the present situation where there is scarcity of even basic masks... I have stopped commenting on these..... and let go in the greater interest of the world ... Ofcourse the reality is ironical. On normal days Masks are a must to prevent infection, but when it really matters we gotta let go of this piece of protection !!!
I got the answer for that, go at two in the morning when you're when your neighbors are partying or making too much noise and you can't sleep! Go do your grocery shopping take a nap in the afternoon when they're asleep too
SIMPLE:you can touch everything as long as you DON'T TOUCH your face and as long as you WASH YOUR HANDS when you arrive home.Wipe all containers and boxes with wipes or paper towel and desinfectant spray and wash produces with water and baking soda (or salt) !
Yes. A little over a week ago, I believed their advice and even repeated it. Not any more. @thinggtwoo - I haven't either, but I am starting tomorrow when I go to a grocery store. You may or may not benefit from it, but others might if you are sick and don't know it. If others wear it, you may benefit too. Consider how contradictory their advice is. In one sentence they say - "wear a mask only if you are showing symptoms and can spread it to others". In another sentence they say "symptomless people spread it too". They are also now saying that it's not just coughing and sneezing that spreads it, but talking and breathing too. So if everyone wears a mask, then symptomless people who are sick will wear masks too. @Fayte - this is ridiculous that you are not allowed. I think next time when I write a review of a local grocery store - they ask for it every time, I'll mention that as a customer I'd feel a lot more comfortable if store employees wore masks.
@@jewelmarkess look. When you are shedding the virus it's pretty obvious. You may feel relatively well, but you will notice you can't smell or taste much. Also you will notice this odd taste or death smell on your breath. This is the virus and that's shedding it. It's in your lungs. Brushing or mouth wash won't get rid of it. It will be more pronounced sneezing or coughing, but it's there just breathing too. This is when you are most contagious and likely to infect others.
Good video, but I agree with other commenters. Both the WHO and the CDC have suggested that people who are not sick don't need a respirator. This is not very good advice. South Korea has been as successful as any country in containing COVID19. Their top infectious disease doctor said he disagrees with the recommendation to not wear a mask (or better yet, a respirator) He agrees that if you are sick, and you must go into public, then a mask may contain some of the water droplets you exhale, but for a healthy person, a good fitting respirator can help cut down on a large percentage of the droplets you might inhale that contain virus. As someone in a higher-risk group, my feeling is that avoiding any store right now is the best approach. No exposure means much less chance of contracting the virus. (delivery and take-out are preferred)
Ffs. They are testing minimally and getting many hits. Most of us have it or had it and are already over it or wont be getting it. This panic has to end here soon. It's getting out of hand with the sheer stupidity of this enire thing. Yes people are going to die but at the rate we are going most of the people on here are about a week away from poisoning themselves with sanitizers.
I wear mask since 3 weeks ago. I also wear glasses since I tent to touch my eyes. I know medical team need mask. But I definitively only wear those green mask and I use only 1-2 mask every 7-10 days. For what? For groceries of course. I still think wear mask is necessary, even just a fabric mask is better than nothing. I don’t think, me wearing 1 mask every week will hurt anybody. Also I do groceries for 4 people in my house. Only 1 person go out for groceries so we safe up on mask. I think WHO need to revisit saying “don’t need to wear mask”
I do online purchase for groceries. For dry items example shampoo, detergent, etc - I leave the whole box untouched for 1 week before I open it. For food like vegetables, I wash them with the detergent brand which I trust, I don't soak them.
The mask to use while caring for an infected person is NOT the loose surgical mask but an N95 mask! Wear gloves when shopping is wise so long as you remove them safely just before you enter your car or home. Then, wash them with soap and water inside and out to remove virus. Let them dry. You don’t know who has handled the items in the shopping bag that is delivered to your house.
I think wearing masks will help prevent spread and prevent someone from getting the virus. The problem is mask supply. Hospitals are running out and our healthcare workers do not have enough. Supply needs to ramp up ASAP and stock to hospitals need to be refilled ASAP.
Everyone focuses on cleaning surfaces in a store, but the coronavirus has been found to be able to float in small water droplets in the air for up to three hours. (some studies suggest longer). That means that if someone who is infected, who walked down a supermarket aisle, sneezed or coughed, and then a person coming along an hour later walked through those droplets, they might become infected. This is why, at the very least, you wear a snug-fitting respirator. Some studies in Germany found that a person who was tested and who was asymptomatic, still had 10,000 times the rate of virus in their throats that was required to spread infection. That means that all they needed to do was talk while in a store to exhale droplets with virus. I have not been in a store for weeks. If you don't own a respirator, and you have to go into a store, at least avoid being close to other people. (and use that sanitizer before touching your face)
Don't wear gloves? Because you will spread contamination but touch as few surfaces as possible. Doesn't add up. Wear gloves but be mindful that you still have to keep your hands as clean as possible. Don't touch your face, phone, steering wheel, etc. Always wash or sanitize after removing gloves. Remove gloves properly so as not to touch your skin.
I take and pick up extra plastic grocery bags pulling them over my hand before I touch anything. if I make a mistake I just wave open another one. I discard this "touch bag" before I get back into my car and use yet another one to get out of the car and unload these groceries
I didn't know soap n water disinfects fruits & veggies? What type of soap & what water temperature? Wash for how long ? Also can someone please tell me if it's safe to just let my groceries sit away , for example if in the closet inside plastic bag from store for about 2 days and then use? That way, no need to clean/ disinfect? I've always just let my fruits n veggies soak in a mixture of water & vinegar for about 30 minutes.
This is a great video with extremely effective ways of sterilizing groceries. I have been doing this all along, and some people think I'm crazy. All you have to do is watch a shopper cough or sneeze into their hand and then handle multiple items before choosing one to put in their basket. I do wonder though, would it be a good idea to wear gloves as you sanitize? My hands can't tolerate strong chemicals. Thank you for this very informative video and for being on the front lines of COVID19 pandemic.
I agree, the germs on everything at all times is shocking....But....this is a new virus and thats why for this we really have to be extra careful...but you are right, at any given time things at grocery stores are full of germs.
@Jay J. RIGHT. I have been suspecting for a long time that the CDC advised against mask wearing because they knew we don't have enough for the whole population. I would not be surprise going maskless, is how Chris Cuomo, Tom Hanks, et al, got infected.
That's true Maggie. In an interview that Dr. Fauci had with Stephen Curry three or four days ago, he said that he didn't advice against the general use of masks, he believes that the priority should be the medical staff first, the sick in second place and then the general population

Had to make a grocery run this morning. I was wrapped up like a mummy. I could not believe the amount of 'spreaders' in the store. At least 5 of them were seniors. How do you go out in public and not wear something over your face? Anyone who gets infected at this point has no one to blame but themselves. Natural selection in it's full glory. Stay safe everyone.
WHO is party responsible for the current mess-- wearing mass should be the top priority. If we all join hands, we can beat this virus- people please wear masks-for yourself and for the world.
We must not underestimate the danger of the Coronavirus. Many people threw caution to the wind during historical pandemics. We must not repeat the same mistakes. Their is one thing we can all do that might help reduce the spread of the Coronavirus, we can eat a little less food than we normally would. This will help our food supplies last longer and help reduce our need to travel to the stores as often.
Wear masks and wear gloves. They'll remind you of not touching your face. Whatever you touch, consider it contaminated; so when taking off the gloves, let it not touch any part of your skin. Use hand sanitizer after. Better yet wash your hands with soap and water for 20 secs when you get home.
Pamela Freeman bleach is easier to find so make your own diluted bleach solution/spray. . It’ll be like Clorox. Make it fresh every day or 2 since homemade stuff degrades
Thanks to the doctor for taking time to record the video, and we certainly empathize with and lift up our health care providers. However, some of his information is simply not correct, basically letting the food come in contact with soap a NO NO. Experts indicate this could likewise make you sick. They advise instead putting vegetables under running water for the 20 seconds, or soaking them.
succinct and nicely done ... however I would implore every person who watched this to please protect yourself and those around you by covering your nose and mouth. this video was posted a week ago and since then it has become painfully clear that those countries who had populations who covered their noses and mouths got the virus under control much faster than in our nation, the United States for a perfect example of the difference look at what tragically transpired in Italy versus South Korea both in both cases the virus was introduced because of the then necessary travel of business men and women. The South Koreans clamp down on stay at home orders and began screening people for fevers very rapidly in addition to proper testing for the virus in those who seemed asymptomatic Italy has a very different culture and the difference i’ve just one week there in two weeks here translated into the death of thousands and thousands of Italians this personally breaks my heart because those are my people I am a second-generation American all of my grandparents come from Italy and it has been painful to watch. As I write this from my home in the United States I am devastated at the rate which this pathogen is decimating our population here in the US. Please be smart stay home only go out for absolute essentials i.e., medications and food. please protect your respiratory tract cover your nose and mouth because our medical professionals need PPE ( personal protective equipment) there are many other options we the public can use please go online and look there are many ways of fashioning a mask that will protect you. Do this along with all the other means we must take such as social distancing, frequent hand washing, etc. Also don’t forget to wipe down the surfaces of your mobile device at least once a day (use the same type of wipes that you would use on your kitchen counters and other hard surfaces in your home.) May God protect all of us, please stay safe, stay healthy and be smart
Every shops, restaurants, gyms, any gatherings, etc should have a sign...”Come and enjoy at your own risk. We’re not responsible for your health. We do our best to sanitize. Ty for your cooperation. There are some people who are so afraid then let these people stay home and hide. There are people who aren’t afraid to die cause for me I have Jesus and I’ll be with Him everlasting life if we are a believer of Christ...John 3:16/14:6. Hope you get to know Christ. If you choose to wear a mask, wear it correctly. Do not touch the mask surface with your hands before or after you wear it. You can contaminate it with your hands OR you can become contaminated by touching the contaminated mask surface. Hold it by the earpieces. If it becomes wet (breathing will do this over a little time), replace it. And PLEASE wear it over your mouth AND nose. Mouth alone doesn't give you the protection you are hoping for.
No patty. That's not a good reason. If you are sick that's a good reason. If "sprittzing" wasn't a concern 4 weeks ago it's still not unless you are sick. How do you know if you are sick or not? Good question. Nobody knows until they show symptoms because the u.s. government still doesn't have its act together on this virus. Things wouldn't be so bad if we know if we were sick or if we had already been sick and have antibodies.
Go when it's not crowded? Yet, stores have condensed their opening hours. I mean, forget shopping at midnight now, when there may have been a handful of people shopping at that time. Now, stores look like holiday periods. It's crowded. If people would simply be courteous, maybe wear face masks (it helps keep your germs to yourself), stay out of there if you've been exposed to anyone that has COVID-19, or if you have any upper-respiratory symptoms at all, get tested (if you have symptoms, at the least), and perhaps follow what they're doing in Singapore, this SARS-COV-2 might get contained. The advice on gloves in video is true. Wearing gloves, if you touch everything isn't going to help. You could very well skip the gloves and wash your hands. You must wash your hands anyways after removal of gloves. If you really want to think about it here. Everything stocked in that store has been touched and retouched plenty of times by the time it made its way from an agriculture farm, through its distribution channel, into your hands to get into your kitchen. It's amazing more people don't get food poisoning, and it's a bit strange that such a pandemic like this one hasn't happened until now (I'm disregarding the previous SARS pandemic in 2003, and the H1N1 pandemic that happened around 2009). Actually, there's plenty of pathogens out there already that most people are unaware of on a daily basis. They're trying to not have people panic regarding masks. I say wearing a mask in crowded busy areas would be beneficial. You can make one yourself. I say just carry on with realistic caution, and flipping *wash your hands* !!!!!
This video should say that your grocery items need to be wiped down. Items that dont need to go into the fridge or freezer can be left in the car or garage for the amount time that COVID19 dies on those type of surfaces, if needed [like if you have a ton of bags of items to deal with]

Veggies and fruit can be soaked in soapy water, then rinsed.
Im voting YOU IN as NATIONAL HEALTH OFFICER! Youre a NATIONAL TREASURE! why? common sense!!
I do the exact same thing. I also NEVER order any food to be delivered from restaurants! You never know who prepared and handled your food. These times are so scary but if we pay attention and keep our surroundings clean then we will be okay. ✌🏼😊

I finally went to the grocery store and wore disposable gloves and the store was not too busy. I pray a lot.
I only bought fresh fruit that could be pealed. I will peal my veggies before baking. I am 70, not in good health but I am concerned my cat might be left alone if I pass. If I feel like I have the virus, I will not seek medical treatment. I would want to just pass.
sanitize your phone with alcohol wipes....or lens wipe...i wash my clothes and shower after my grocery shopping ...i sprayed winter jacket with alcohol ...it crazy but to be on the safe side...no shoes in my house for sure ...i left my shoes outside the house or garage before coming in to the house
Well said! I do the same thing! And I will keep using my mask and gloves every time I need to go to the store
Hand shaking: Spreads germs
Fist bumps: Still spreads germs
Middle finger: perfectly safe
Example- "A, 1 of 5"
Just water will not kill viruses. Soak in solution of bleach, on produce, like USAF did in Viet Nam.
maybe people dont like the thought of eating chemicals
Bleach is toxic to the body when ingested as are most sanitizing chemicals .
Target they clean after one person is done in the cashier and distance everyone
We're constantly told to use wipes or some other type of disinfectant. How are we supposed to do this when the stores don't have any left? All of these suggestions are useless if we can't purchase the products they're telling us to use.
Try to find them online. I don't know about wipes but a bunch companies that usually don't make hand sanitizes are now making them.
Walmart in Orlando has disinfecting Lysol/ great value disinfecting wipes and toilet paper, Lysol all purpose cleaners, and bleach! Incase anyone lives in that area
I can help you solve that..
Everyone should wear a mask.
Go do your grocery shopping take a nap in the afternoon when they're asleep too
Don’t bring your smart phone when you go shopping!
Why.....I haven't heard this? Thanks.
SIMPLE:you can touch everything as long as you DON'T TOUCH your face and as long as you WASH YOUR HANDS when you arrive home.Wipe all containers and boxes with wipes or paper towel and desinfectant spray and wash produces with water and baking soda (or salt) !
Sir, you are great I am from India Tripura .wonderful explanation AND great message all over the world. Than you
Not wear a mask? I think that advise has passed weeks ago. I dare anyone to go out without a mask at this time.
exactly .
Guess us all working in the stores are good as dead we aren’t able to wear them as they are not allowed.
I do it every day. Most of yall don't wear it right anyways and it's doing absolutely nothing for you.
So, where does a person find gloves...or masks...or hand sanitizer?
The only place I can find them is six weeks ago.
I saw my physical fitness trainer at Trader Joes, dang! He gained 30 pounds.

You can wash friuts and veggies in cold water with vinegar and baking soda.
Encourage a 6 foot friendly chat with delivery workers, if they seem tired or unhappy. It's emotionally exhausting work rn.

(and use that sanitizer before touching your face)
wear a mask people diy or use layers of napkin or tissue ...and sanitize all products ..boxes ..cans ..when get home ...🙏
u can put layers of paper towel or basket coffee filters inside a bandana staple together n tie it on works fine...
Mask is a must!
POSSIBLY IN THE AIR TOO!!!
So don't wear gloves because they will just spread contamination? Wouldn't that be the same for your bare hands? Am I missing something here?
The theory is people will wear gloves and not wash their hands as often.
Done watching na po Covid19...naiwan ko na po saging
You can peel apples, carrots, etc. Cooking vegetables helps to kill viruses.
This is excellent info, thank you SO MUCH!!
There is no way I am going anywhere without a mask
Bad advice., This thing is going to continue to spread until everyone wears a mask
I do agree!
@Jay J.
RIGHT.
I have been suspecting for a long time that the CDC advised against mask wearing because they knew we don't have
enough for the whole population.

No mention of wiping down the products once you get them home? Strange! I wipe down everything before I put it away in the fridge and pantry.
Thank you... stay safe and healthy!!!
Are these corona virus could spread worldwide on imported items???
Just watched a video where they say wash your fruit with soapy water...
Wear masks and wear gloves. They'll remind you of not touching your face. Whatever you touch, consider it contaminated; so when taking off the gloves, let it not touch any part of your skin. Use hand sanitizer after. Better yet wash your hands with soap and water for 20 secs when you get home.

Also don’t forget to wipe down the surfaces of your mobile device at least once a day (use the same type of wipes that you would use on your kitchen counters and other hard surfaces in your home.)

Why can't I use soap to clean my apples??
If you choose to wear a mask, wear it correctly. Do not touch the mask surface with your hands before or after you wear it. You can contaminate it with your hands OR you can become contaminated by touching the contaminated mask surface. Hold it by the earpieces. If it becomes wet (breathing will do this over a little time), replace it. And PLEASE wear it over your mouth AND nose. Mouth alone doesn't give you the protection you are hoping for.
I tend to "spritz" a little sometimes when I talk - that's a good reason to wear a mask, don't ya think?!
Thanks Doc. Good info!
Thank you.
